Hungry?

This little bust was so much fun to paint. The design is so simple, but still so strong, thanks to the haunted expression. I wanted my paintjob to maximise that haunted, wretched look that Romain van den Bogaert so expertly captured in his sculpt. Don\'t know if I succeeded in that, but I\'m pretty happy with how it came out.

I also didn\'t want to cover it up with too much gore, so I kept it minimal. The blood was made by underpainting the blood stains with VMC Black Red and then cover it with generous amounts of Tamiya Clear Red. To get a bit of variation in the look of the blood I added a bit of acrylic black paint to the TCR and painted some bits with that.

I think white eyes without iris or pupil looks creepy as hell, so that was the obvious choice here. Did them a bit blood-shot, but otherwise they\'re completely featureless. Worked pretty well.

There\'s some veins on his head, but I kept those really subtle, so that they are barely noticeable. You can see them in some of the angles.

Anyway, I hope you like it. I\'m really happy to have finished something after not having had anything new to show since last september.

the understated blood works a treat mate, just enough to add to it, yet not enough to turn it into a horror scene.

always nice seeing your work :)

Fantastic as usual, really impressive. I keep looking at it and seeing new subtleties, the veins on the head, around the eyes, the skin tones. Super - and JUST enough blood .>!

Seriously nice work, and creepy as heck! :eek:
I\'d really like a mini of the Pale Man, but I don\'t know if I\'d be brave enough to paint him!

@Ritual: I\'ve had a better look now I\'m not at work and did the vote thing. It\'s a great paint job - the eyes look iridescent, almost, and the veins are subtle and work really well. Any chance of some close-ups of the face? One random thought - he must be quite fresh, he looks very healthy and pink for a ghoul! I suppose he has just had a tasty snack, that could be why....

Criminally underrated at its present score IMO. I think the comments should speak for themselves, though. One of my favourite pieces you\'ve done! :beer:

Thanks everyone! I\'m glad you like it! :beer:

@Bill
Yeah, there\'s something about it that reminds you of that creature. It doesn\'t really look anything like it, but there\'s something, perhaps the combination of cruelty and wretchedness. You can\'t help but feel that it\'s a sad creature, despite it obviously being evil.

@Amazon warrior
The skin tones has come out much pinker and \"healthier\" in the photos than they are in real life. My camera, with my current lighting, has a tendency to bring out reds a bit too heavily. In real life the skin is more grey-ish with hints of colours in it. The colour is definitely duller and colder, with shadows leaning towards purple. Not a huge difference, as I didn\'t want the skin to look too far off from \"normal\" skin, but you definitely don\'t get the same rosy impression of it in real life.

@Ian
Don\'t worry about the scores, mate! I don\'t! What matters most is finishing the work and being able to feel that I\'ve done a good job of it. Comments from you and the others mean much more in that sense than numbers. Cheers! :beer:
