I\'d rather see comments with no voting. I have never posted an image because I\'m afraid I\'ll get obsessed with my score if I do.

I have to admit I was surprised when I discovered you could vote without being a registered member. So many websites require you to register for the least little service. I wouldn\'t object to having to log in to vote.

I wonder what would happen if you *had* to comment in order to vote? A lot of blank comment boxes, I suppose.

all right then, i am not one of those who care too much about the ratings here in cmon, but descending from 9.3 to 8,9 in so many few votes with my dark elf is way too much, im fed up with snipers, i think i will never post again in this site. THere must be someone who REALLY hates me or something:(

i love ur elf and i gave it a lovely pink 10 :D

That is true, I think the snippers are members, and some even perhaps other top painters. But if it logs all the votes, and you just have a warning saying that snipping behavior will result in banned IP\'s, I think it would discourage much of the activitiy...other than perhaps those with alternate accounts and dynamic IP\'s...but that is a limited group, and should snipping continue the cause would be focused there...

It is no different than how the site was managed before. Before Image moderation, people submited whatever they want, after image moderation, you only get someone submitting other people\'s work once in a blue moon. Same with comment moderation. People used to be very mean with their comments, and we started moderating them and it got a lot better. Let\'s see if we can do it with voting. Having to log on to vote creates accountability and that is the one thing that puts a face to the vote. People do a lot of hurtful things hiding behind a computer screen. If they know that their identity can be revealed, they might not be so fast to push that 1 button. Again, this is just something that we are considering, Implementation is another issue.

Cool.....Happy birthday! My son turns 8 tomorrow! Nice to know he\'s in good company!

As to vote logging, is it possible just to see a graph of the votes? you\'d soon see if its a bell shapped curve or whether there\'s been some sniping.

Okay, I\'m sure some of you will say that since I have no gallery here, that I have no dog in this fight and what I have to say is meaningless, but I do consider myself a \"fairly active\" member of this communityso...

I think the \"only vote while logged in\" idea is the most viable solution (if it can be implemented) It is the least restrictive idea. Of course, as a subscriber ;) I could be a real bitch and suggest that ONLY subscribers should be able to vote. That would cut out an amazingly large number of regulars here. I\'m a big proponent of democracy, though and believe \"the more the merrier\".

I would also suggest that a whole bunch of you need to grow thicker skins. One reason many of you post your work is that you are (quite rightly) proud of it and want it to be seen by lots of people. Well, this is THE place for that. With all its warts and problems, your work will be seen here by more people (especially, more influential people in the mini painting community) than just about anywhere else I can think of. You could post your stuff on more restrictive, more elitist sights but it would take comparatively forever to get as many views as you can get here in a couple of days. So I guess it\'s kind of a balance. This site attracts more people BECAUSE its an open-access site. You want more people to see your work? You have to put up with some of the pains. You want nothing but addulation? Post it on your own private site and get only you and a few select friends looking at it.

Ummmmm...... I guess that\'s all for now, before I really get myself in trouble. ;)

If members snipe you harshly, it will be easily visible in the aforementioned logs. If people log out so they can\'t be tracked, they are not able to snipe you.
I don\'t think many people would be so mean-spirited to snipe and not care that they will be found out... and the use of several accounts by one person is the only problem that remains. Still, even that one can be dealt with.

By the way, \"kids\" was meant to describe a mental age, not the physical one ;)

Thing is, you have a style that I reckon polarises opinion a little bit. I, for example, can see why people voted up in the nines for you. On the otherhand, it ain\'t a style I like. I hate to think I\'m the only person out there with a particular type of taste. As such you\'ll get those who think \"PAH! I don\'t think it\'s worth that much!\" and as a result it\'ll drop as people knock it down a little. YOu will now see an upward trend due to supprt from the forums. In the long-run I daresay It\'ll balance out at the correct(ish) level. I\'d vote a 9 as 8 would be harsh.

Just a viewpoint, tis all.

I don\'t know reverend...you are fairly unique :)

But the point is also, if you\'re one who dislikes it and gives it a 9...and there are a ton who like it and give it 10\'s, to average that back down to a 9, there are a whole lot of people who would have to dislike it much more than you...

The system is far from perfect. Snipers, sycophants, people who don\'t know good mini painting. You just have to accept it.

Lok at the top 50 artists. There are people in the 51-150 bracket that I think deserve a top 50 spot far more than some of the current top 50. Just have to accept it.

I echo what everyone else is saying. At the end of the day, its only a website and if you read the comments on your mini\'s you\'ll see what people really think.

True. But that\'s the point isn\'t it. In a nutshell.

It turns out that I must be more balanced than I thought. Still, nothing new to me lol

See, I don\'t think that\'s true either, the comments on the mini I think often tend to be slanted towards being too nice. See, I liked cmon because no matter how many \"wows!\" I might get, if I end up with an honest score lower than a goal, then I can sit down and critique myself to figure where to improve. With a snipped score (which seems everything I might post lately will end up right at 9.0), I don\'t know if that\'s really where is deserves to be or not...

I think that at the end of the day, this is just a website but a great time saver for me to see a lot of the top work being produced around the world...if there is something here that is chasing artists away, (particularly top ones like Albert), I\'d rather take the time to try to fix this place, than settle for it, and then have to take much much more time in the future to try and track down photos of his work.

Nobody wants to scare away a 4-6 painter by being too harsh. And the best criticism is constructive, after all. But at the same time, there are only so many times you can comment \"Drybrushing doesn\'t look good on cloth, and remove the mold lines next time\". So higher-ranked minis will get more comments and of course those will tend to be very glowing.

This is basically the only thing keeping me from saying \"I don\'t care who removes their pics\"... I have been sniped, and on mediocre work too which is bizarre. But I just trust that it will work out in the end - after enough votes the mini will reach its proper level. Removing one\'s gallery in response is just... silly.

I\'ve been watching this thread develop and it is depressingly familiar.

I guess anyone who posts pics here does so for their own reasons and gets different things out of it. This must change as the painter matures and improves and their expectations improve(Eric for example) and clearly from the comments made it also changes as others (the snipers) take a stance for or against someone.

In any event anyone who posts here has to decide what they get out of the experience in terms of coverage, community, support, etc - each time they post!

Once you decide that what you get out of the experience is negative thats the time to stop - or start pressurising the administrators to change the system.

I hope that changes that satisfy the needs of our painting gods (and lesser gods) can be made and Eric, Albert, etc remain and continue to delight us with their brilliance.

Ultimately it is up to them - if they go elsewhere CMON will be diminished but they will also loose out on the coverage received - and consider - fame is fleeting - the last time this happened we had the painter with the top mini remove all his pics - now my memory aint what it used to be and without trawling through the back posts (which I am not about to do) I don\'t remember his name!

I- I do think you should still be able to vote on 1 mini multiple times, HOWEVER, with stronger restrictions than right now. Perhaps you must vote on 25, 50, 100 minis before you can vote again...or have a real life timer...or something!
-

I\'m all for change to identify and eliminate rogue voting and certainly agree that votes should be limited to those who are registered but I don\'t see why anyone should want to vote on a mini more than once (unless you live in Florida I supose)

Sorry for the long post but I dont pop up much nowdays and feel very much that the strength of CMON is the variety of people who post their pictures - from the very (very) good to the mediocre (such as me) and those in need of tender loving care. This is supported by the forums which sometimes get heated but normally behave with restraint:D

Whew enough hot air here to refill the Hindenber

oh look, that\'s awesome

All 5 of my top minis drop in score the same day as this thread, what a coincidence...They all gained a ton of votes, and the anti-sniping software didn\'t fix things.

I\'m glad to learn we\'re talking about a forum member, with some sort of dynamic IP or way to vote multiple times, who knows how to get around the anit-sniping software. Really makes me want to invest my time in this place when it goes unchecked. Ridiculous.

Sniper(s), I assume you\'re reading this now, why don\'t you keep it up, if you want to ruin all the fun of this place for me and make me leave, you\'ve nearly won. At least I have to give you credit for being more passionate about ruining this place, than it seems anyone is to fix it.

Eric - That sucks! I see you\'ve dropped 4 places since yesterday - happens to some of us daily lower down the order, but in the top 20 it\'s down to only one thing - planned and efficient sniping. Feel for you.

Moral of the tale - given the current set-up. Keep quiet about voting!! Don\'t complain! Bah!
