Hey Eric, it\'s \'cos I think you\'re a lousy git with the talent of frogspawn. :D ;) Anonymous people also browse these forums, I\'m sure. So it\'s not necessarily someone we know as such. But it\'s still a bit of a double-take.

Someone called me cynical? Why would I be cynical? I have far too much faith in humanity. Yeah, right... It\'s immaturity like this that keeps me just slightly jaded.

Whilst people can not be held accountable for this sort of behaviour they\'ll continue to snipe. How many members would continue sniping if they couldn\'t do it anonymously? I called you cynical for saying that publicly viewable logs would create cliques and voting wars... People on the whole will play fair if they know someone could be watching.

Was just pointing out the other side of the equation, Arjay. There will be dishonest votes (either favourable or unfavourable), whether voting logs are made public or not. Neither is perfect. You asked what was wrong, \"Can anyone point out a downside to it? \", I said what I thought was wrong with it.

And yeah, so you called me cynical. I wasn\'t upset by it or calling you out on it, because you\'re quite right. I\'m quite the pessimist, whilst maintaining high hopes of being proved wrong. lol

This place is hardly the be all is it?

Pictures can tell a thousand lies anyway....

There is no, and probably never will be the be all site for the hobby. However if this place wants to get closer, it\'s got to get this straightened out. A site where the primary draw over other sites, is a system of voting, then completely discrediting the system by allowing such obvious abuses, sort of make the site useless...

Personally, after seeing dozens of people upset about the way things are here, only to be told by an equally small, or smaller, group of people that they need to adjust their thinking and accept it, I\'m thinking maybe it is time to admit a huge part of this community, DOES value the voting system, and DOES think it\'s something worthwhile to fix. And maybe all those who say to not take it so seriously should sit down, shut up, and let people with a passion to fix things, try to work out a way to do it. This site can be a better, and more fun place with a little effort.

Why accept mediocrity when a little work can improve things. Personally I\'ve never been one to work that way, or else I\'d probably still be drybrushing minis head to toe...

But Eric I think a lot of this stems back to the days of those of us who dont care now doing the moaning about the voting only to be told Chern is too busy to change anything.

I would like to see total accountability for voting and comments.
But I have got so used to banging my head against a wall it has numbed the pain.

My feelings are this place has being going steadily downhill for a while and things like sniping need to be addressed before the site can move forward any more.

Ummmm.... A bit harsh there, aren\'t you, Eric??? I hope you don\'t REALLY expect me to \"sit down and shut up\" That ain\'t likely to happen. Or does your plan for a \"Brave New CMON\" also include the idea that only those who agree with you should be able to post in the Forums?

It\'s incredible that there are people who actually can be bothered to spend their time to sit and snipe. Don\'t they have anything better to do with their time!

I agree with the people who think you should have to be registered to be allowed to vote.

I don\'t think anyone (except maybe moderators) should be able to see how people have voted, as I think that would probably end up with a general \"you scratch my back, I\'ll scratch yours\" mentality.

I don\'t think you should have to comment either, as that would probably decrease the number of votes immensely, and instead of waiting two-three weeks to get 50 votes on a figure I\'d have to wait two-three months.

\"I don\'t think anyone (except maybe moderators) should be able to see how people have voted,\"

Thats fair enough but how about a vote breakdown in the form of a list of numbers.
Just to put our minds at ease and to see how the voting curve looks.

That would interest me without thinking of snipers, just curiosity.

If you see a dozen 1\'s in a row then they can ask it to be looked at by a mod.
Same with 10\'s.

I realize those words were a little harsh, but it is rhetoric more than a command (and definately not directed at you or scott, who I quoted). I have watched for years now every time someone complains on this topic to basically get the: \"yeah it sucks, but it\'s not changing, so shut up and sit down, just stop caring so much and it\'s better\" line.

It\'s become the culture here, and I know a lot of people don\'t even speak up anymore because there is a group here that will just tell them this same thing again, and again, and again, and a lot more that don\'t post here anymore because of the issue...but for how long? Until cmon is seeing none of the top work anymore? Already so much of the best isn\'t coming here; maybe 1 in 5 demon winners, and even less from other competitions.

My Question is why let this continue and watch this place deteriorate further? That answer has always been the easy one, and at one point it may have been the right one as well, but I firmly believe it is not anymore. So my argument is stop settling for this same answer and those who preach it, do need to take a step back. This place can get better, but as long as the forum culture keeps everyone quiet on the subject, that may never happen. So I\'m saying those telling others to stop caring about the site, stop complaining about the problems, to essentually shut up and sit down...that maybe it\'s their turn on this subject.

Bottom line: There are those that avoid problems, and those that confront them...and there are times to avoid problems and times to confront them. I think times are changing.

That essentually is the translation of my thoughts when I first typed \"shut up and sit down\'

Well yes, but some people just don\'t care either way. It doesn\'t mean you shouldn\'t have your say on it. It just means that your grouping folk into two brackets is a bad move. I reckon there\'s a vast majority of us who couldn\'t give a tinker\'s cuss. You, Eric, want something fixed. That\'s a fair call. But either which way, it\'s a tiny minority of the folk who are members (or not) who take either stance - sniper or anti-sniper.

To suggest that the forum mentality (another complete minority in relation to the whole member group) keeps 4 out of 5 demonists away shows to most folk that they are petulant and thin-skinned. We\'re talking painted pewter on a bloody website. If you think there\'s a huge problem, why not corral all the top painters and make an elite website? I\'d quite like to see that actually, all the top artists in one spot (you included). It would save trawling for work.

I\'m shutting up and sitting down otherwise, but only because I was sitting down and shutting up already. I don\'t care either which way!

Perhaps it\'s the difference between those that need their ego stroking, and those that don\'t? CMON will continue to have top quality work posted because too many people have a vested interest in the publicity it generates.

If someone feels so strongly that CMON is going down the tubes, fix it, or create another mini-related utopia!

@ Albert: The comment about photos lying wasn\'t aimed at you chap, just a general observation and yet another way that voting systems can be cheated.... ;)

Well said. I concur whole-heartedly.

I\'ve avoided posting in this topic so far because of my strong sentiments about this topic. No offense meant by what I\'m going to say.

Here goes...
Boo hoo. I\'m tired of hearing people cry because they aren\'t fellated by all the members of this board daily for their \"masterpiece.\" I realize that you spent a long time on it, but chill out. 8.9 is no bad rating, and hell, shouldn\'t you just be happy that you have a place to show your stuff off?

well i think you have not understood the point, its not about if 8.9 is a good or bad rating, its about people rating 1s just for the fun of bothering those who spend their time and effort on a good miniature.
And im not \"crying\" you guys seem to have misunderstood it, i just tried to explain how stupid you feel posting with the hope people will like your work and then some b*stards have the hobby of sniping them...

I wonder what the site would be like without all of the good painters (and i\'m not speaking about me, i am the 1st to be humble), just any other hobby site... that\'s why cmon is just the best place! because all the good and newbies can meet and learn from each others.
