Family ghost stories
My family ABOUNDS with these stories.
My aunt died in the early eighties. It was very sudden and left the whole family in shock. My mother claims she was alone at her sewing machine, feeling depressed about the death of her sister. Mom looked behind her, and there her sister was! My aunt said she was fine, and that my mom shouldn\'t feel sad. My other aunt said she had a similar experience.
The aunt that is still alive was given one of those psychic assessment tests as part of a study done by the Sothern Baptist Convention. She\'s a secretary in their office. Anyway, she tested off the charts. So maybe that explains something.

He was in a sitting position, where his old recliner used to be in the bedroom. She was spooked by this, and asked him if he wanted to see my mom. If pressed I would say that I don\'t believe in ghosts. But if pressed harder, especially by a force I cannot see, I might just give in.
Actually, I\'ve never settled on belief or disbelief in the area. I believe people die, and I believe in the eternity of the soul, so it follows that ghosts, and the sightings of such, are possible.

To my surprise most of my friends had some kind of weird experience that they could not explain, and which pointed to ghostly activity. The most surprising of which was my wife, who is very sane, and claims to have seen her grandfather twice in her life. He died before my wife was born.
I can recall one experience from my childhood, but it was so long ago that it is shrouded in the haze of time and childhood imagination. I and my sister were babysitting ourselves, which parent\'s used to allow children to do once upon a time. We were in the old section of our church which was set off from the main section by about 100 yards (meters). Anyway, there were no grown-ups around. So, as my sister and I were playing she heard a noise. She grabbed me by the arm and led me to the nursery where an exceptionally old woman was rocking in the rocking chair. Her back was too us, so I never saw her face. I just remember that she had not been there earlier. We fled the scene, and as we were leaving, bumped into our parents who were finishing with whatever budget meeting they were doing. We told them about the lady and they told us that there should have been no one down there with us. Naturally they were concerned so we all went to the nursery which was, as you have probably guessed, empty.
Was it a ghost? Who knows?

Back when I was in high school, on several occassions while siting in our living room I had caught sight of someone walking down the hallway. It was pretty much always just out of the corner of my eye, the movement grbbing my attention, but it appeared to be a young female with long blonde hair. I had always put it off as a trick of the imnd or an overactive imagination. It didn\'t really scare me, but it did make the hairs on my arms stand up. I never mentioned it to anybody.
Then one day a friend of mine and I were just hanging out, reading and watching TV. He looks over at me and says, \"You didn\'t tell me your sister was home.\" Again, all the hairs on my arms and the back of my neck stood up.
\"Why?\" I said.
\"She just walked down the hall,\" he replied.
\"Who did?\" I asked.
\"Your sister,\" he answered, looking at me weird. He then proceeded to describe the girl I\'d seen on other occassions.
\"My sister is in Boston,\" I told him.
Ghost? I don\'t know. Unexplained phenomenon? Certainly. I actually tend to believe it WAS my sister - some kind of astral projection or something like that. If there are ghosts around, why are they so shy? Come on, show yourselves to me, scare me, DO something! Why do they show themselves almost exclusively to the young and impressionable, the drunk , tired or not well woken up (Dragonsreach, I do not know which category you belong to in the morning ), ...
I can believe in the supernatural, but ghosts suffer too many inconsistencies in my opinion. If I were a ghost, you\'d see me everywhere (and probably most often in the ladies dressing rooms )

Over here in the UK we have a TV series called “Most Haunted”, usually shown on Tuesday nights on satellite TV.
The aim of the show is for the “Investigators” to spend the night at a haunted location with TV crew and handheld Video cameras. There have been several of the shows which have been intriguing to say the least in that there have been occurrences which are not easily explainable. One memorable one was of a video camera, on a locked tripod, recording automatically, moving several degrees off the original aiming point.
This Tuesday’s show was of particular interest to me in that the location was Chillingham Castle in Northumberland, by birthplace. I’d not heard of the reputation of Chillingham as being so heavily haunted but, hey I don’t know all the legends from my area.
I may seem to be rambling a bit here but bear with me. The charity gig we’re trying to organise will be doing something along the same lines, cameras, camcorders and hopefully a bit of fun to raise some cash. At the present there are a number of locations which we are approaching to see if we can get permission. So I’ll update you all when, and if, I can get it off the ground.

to answer your question. Basically I normally get up at 05:00 to walk the Dog, get ready for work and then drive the 20+ miles to work. Which means that by the time I get in to work I\'m wide awake.

I once bought some dwarf ladies from Ghost Miniatures. They weren\'t bad. On a scale of 1 to 10 I\'d give them a 5.5 to 6.0.
Now, back to the real ghosts. I have to agree with Dragonsreach. If ghosts exist the reason some see them and others do not would be easy to explain.
I once heard it theorized that ghosts were just the remnant energy of people who had died. The theory was that if a person did an action often enough, or with enough intensity, then the energy of the action would sort of magnatize that spot. So even after they passed on energy might be drawn to that location again and again. And since the energy would obviously be much less intense than when an actual person was performing the action it would only be visible when other interferences were gone, like other people, or sunlight.
It was just a theory, but it made some sense. Of course, that was a theory that tried to explain ghosts as non-sentient residual energy, not as the thinking spirit of a dead human that has come back to haunt the living world.
As to why only kids and drunkards see them, well I\'m going to have to go with the theory of subconscious rationalization. Adults don\'t want to believe in things that don\'t fit into their idea of the rational world. So, if they see something out of the corner of their eye, or in the mirror, or whatever, their brain automatically weeds it out of recognition. Therefore they don\'t have to deel with it.
But it\'s just a theory. I probably don\'t believe in ghosts. I\'ll have to check and see.

I\'ve seen lots of little things, but most can be pretty easily explained. However, I remember there was a house in France that my familly and I stayed in for about a month a so, that I always though was odd. Often it would be at least three times a day that I was convinced that I saw a cat in the house out of the corner of my eye, but it was always going under a chair, turning around a wall, going out a door when I turned to look at it. The cat was orange and very beautiful. I started seeing it so often that I tried actualy looking for the cat, but never found it. Then one day, I was with my dad at the table, when he said, I keep having this feeling that there\'s a cat in the house. I was shocked, and immediately told him that I kept seeing it too. Our descriptions matched.

There is also the idea of becoming stigmatized. I mean, if you start talking about believing in ghosts, some people immediately write you of as a wacko.
I believe in currently unexplained phenomena. I believe there are a lot of things that go on that presently we don\'t have an explanation for and I find these things intriguing. This does not mean that I believe in ALL stories of the supernatural, ALL UFO stories, etc. Usually when I say something like this , I immediately get the \"Oh! You believe in men from Mars?!\" response.
NO! I believe that there are flying objects that are unidentified. This does not mean that they are all from another planet or anything else. It means that there are things which we currently can\'t identify. In this same \"spirit,\" I believe there are NON-flying objectsw which we currently can\'t identify.
I totally agree with that...When i was in the Navy my hearing was tested( I was a Sonar Tech) and it turns out that I hear quite a few frequencies higher and lower than \"the norm\"...I can hear tones in music that my friends cannot...However I am so nearsighted that I absolutely cannot drive or do much of anything without my glasses...but what\'s really strange is that i\'m an expert Marksman, and as a child(before i got glasses) I would go hunting with my father and shoot squirrels with a 22 rifle, and i would always bring home more than my father or my brother who both have 20-20 vision, and are both great shots (My father could shoot pecans off of the limb by the stem not touching the nut itself)???

Every once in a while, while walking down the hallway, I would hear her meow, loudly, right next to my ear. Also, we kept her litterbox under a desk in the utility room, and every once in a long while, I would smell her litterbox very strongly, just for a second or two. I was the only one who heard her, but others could smell her litterbox at times. Very strange.

Hmm, personal ghost stories. I\'ve got a couple. During my first stint at college (88-90 if anyone is interested) I worked as a night security gaurd in a girls dorm (rougher work than one might imagine). Anyway, I was sitting there one night in the lobby when I heard the inner set of the double doors off the lobby open and then the outer set - no one came through, but I figured that someone had started into the lobby and then decided to go up the stairwell which was between the sets of doors. Well, a few seconds later, the main doors to the lobby opened from the inside and locked against their stops. Finding this behaviour a little strange, I went over and closed the doors and made sure that they were locked. Bout an Hour later the outside doors (which were locked, remember?) opened from the outside, and then something blew through the lobby and through the doors to the back of the dorm. Needless to say, I spent the rest of the night on the porch.
