Hi there,

I took up this hobby some months ago and would like to introduce one of the first minis I finished painting lately
for constructive discussion and hopefully many helpful comments.

The figure was painted with Andrea colors and had a nice and thoroughly matt surface of skin and woolen clothes.
Unfortunately I didn´t take any pictures in that state.
It got a finish of 2 layers Vallejo matt varnish spray leaving the surface noticeably shining as can be seen on the pics.
It this what is to be expected with matt varnish or does exist a technique or varnish that gives a really matt and protective coating ?

I also have the feeling that some part of the wash and blood literally vanished with the spraying.

A last general question: Do I need to merge the jpeg´s of a single mini into one file on my own, or is there a way to do the merging
automatically with the upload ?

Bye
Andreas

for the shiny matt varnish: it may be that the spray was not shaken enough and the material that makes it matt settled on the bottom.

montage-pics: nope, sorry, you have to do it yourself with an image editor like photoshop (or gimp or whatever). It's just that I'm used to PS and the last UI GIMP (free image edition software) had was pretty much the same UI as PS.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. Maybe that´s the reason, the first spray I bought in the shop didn´t work at all. Although I also tried the liquid Vallejo matt varnish and it gave a silk surface at the best.

2 more thing for vallejo:
- quality varies from batch to batch. So it can happen that a spray is super in one, bad and shiny in the other
- From the Vallejo varnishes the Vallejo-Air Matt (Airbrushed os painted on) was the most matt, followed by the ModelColor one (almost the same, but the air felt more matt), and finally the GameColor (felt mostly satin)

Then again I varnish all my minis with GW purity-seal (or how it's called nowdays, basically a simple satin varnish) and they don't shine that much. (if they do, then I AB them with the VAC-Matt)

Brush-On Varnish does not really work for me. I find it hard to decide when it is enough. Best Varnish I worked with so far is Army painter Anti-Shine Matt Varnish. Be carefull though. Army Painter cans tend to blast out way more liquid than other sprays you might be used to. I use it from quite a distance and only give very short blasts. Let dry for a while, see which directions are still glossy, repeat. This stuff is ultra matte if applied correctly. If you get on too much or the paint underneath wasn't dried completely it still dries completely matt but crackles.

Hope this helps a bit :)
