I pissed off another girl...or why I can\'t find an intelligent women

When it comes to dating, I think a lot of us are less than clear about our own motives than we think. Time and again, men say they want intellect, but you can tell by their actions that physical looks are more important. Women often say they want a good sense of humor, yet that appears low on the list of things they actually pursue in a date. Just a personal observation, but it seems a clear pattern to me at any rate.
Maybe, it\'s self-flattery, not wanting to look superficial, which is a real non-problem anyway. I don\'t see why anyone should be ashamed of their desires, but lots of people seem to think for one reason or another that they SHOULD want intellectual traits when in fact their desires are pointing them in a very different direction. It might also be a kind of perspective bias. When we say we want someone intelligent, we mean it, but of course we mean it in the sense that we want the really hot chick with the great rack to ALSO be smart. The woman saying she wants a sense of humour means it too, but she wants the sense of humor on a guy with some muscle and smattering signs of success. It\'s almost as though the real desire becomes so overwhelming that it goes without saying. So, people instead talk about the 2nd or 3rd priority on their list, all the while being unclear themselves as to just how much those priorities have been trumped by others in their own behavior. It would be wonderful to get the total package, but in romance, just as everything else, we usually have to decide between one or the other value.

To the OP: If you are consistently meeting women who\'s intellect falls short of your expectations, is it just possible that by the time you begin to assess their intellence you have already narrowed the field too much in view of other priorities? It may not even be a conscious process, but it could include factors like where you go to meet women, etc. Are your pursuits likely to land you in a conversation with someone who values the same things you do, or are they more likely to secure you a woman with other things on her mind? You\'d be in a better position to answer that than I, but it\'s the first thing that occured to me on reading the post.

LOL, if I had a nickel for every time some physically-imperfect person griped about being single, while other physically-imperfect pudgy people of their preferred gender swarmed around them... well I\'d be a lot richer. Nerdy males who lack dating/sexual experience are very bad for this, but females are not off the hook either. It\'s not a case of \"lowering your expectations\" either, more like \"realizing what actually matters\".
