I thought people liked cheerleaders

Okay, here was one of my Chick Challenge V entries. This is the one I thought everyone would recognize as my work, but no one said anything so maybe my stuff isn\'t as well known as I thought.

I waited for her to get 50 votes before drawing any undue attention because I wanted to get the average person\'s impression first.

So, I get that the eyes are too darkly lined, but what\'s wrong with the pom-pons? I was pretty proud with sculpting those from scratch. How could I improve them?

I admit it; my skin was particularly thin on this one. Bird\'s comment burned, especially since Bird produces some fantastic stuff. Unfortunately I didn\'t quite understand it and don\'t know what I\'m supposed to do to improve.

I\'m a little shocked by that comment as well. This definately deserves higher. Originality, sadly, sometimes gets vastly underrated here.

Is is Pom-pons or Pon-Poms...I always get that confused.

I recognized this as yours almost instantly while voting for CCV. As Vike said, sadly, originality doesn\'t always get you good marks around here. I gave you an \"8\".

I don\'t think there\'s anything wrong with the pom-poms. Perhaps Bird was expecting those unreal looking globular ones. These, I thought, looked much more like what real pom-poms look like. I also thought that the hair actually looked pretty good. No accounting for taste, I guess. Everyone is free to have their own opinion and own voting scale. I just happen to think his was dead wrong in this case lol
Besides, I think we\'ve all seen examples of the fact that being a brilliant painter doesn\'t necessarily mean you\'re a wonderful person or a great judge of others work.

The comment Bird made was very rude. I don\'t understand it. I think the mini is overall very good. There is something with the hair that looks funky some places, but I just can\'t quite put my finger on it. I gave it an 8.

Thanks for the supportive comments guys.
I thought at first maybe I had said something negative about one of Bird\'s pieces but when I looked at his gallery I saw I\'d only given good marks - how could you not. So, I\'m chucking it to taste and the language barrier.

The dark around her eyes (or the eyes arent big enough) makes her look evil. The pom-pom\'s look like wads of cement. Mabey lighter colors and keep the shadows light. Rah rah rah.

Oof. Like the others said that\'s a harsh comment and certainly for me, not a 5 mini. (I reserve my 5\'s for beginners.) Eyes look fine to me as does the entire mini. If I *had* to nitpick I\'d say the pompoms might use a thin strip of glitter/metallic/shiny strands in there, but again that\'s nitpicking. It\'s a lovely paintjob.

Yeesh...I usually give 5\'s to stuff I\'d see some kid bring in for the GW weekly tournament or something. The stuff that\'s painted neatly, at least. I kinda see it as the tip of the bell-curve and \"Average\". That\'s the way I tend to rate, anyway, and saying this mini is a 5 makes the bell-curve really f\'ed up.

Terribly underrated...though I think a lot of things are getting terribly underrated for some reason.

I voted earlier with an \"8\" by the way.

The pom-poms are fine. The hair and face are nice, and the base is prefect for what it\'s supposed to be. I gave you a 7, it\'s a clever and original conversion but the following technical issues bring it down a bit:

- White paint seems a wee bit thick, I can sort of see a blobby texture to it
- Metallic steel areas seem flat

I guess it probably should be closer to a 7.5, maybe I should have given an 8.

I gave it a six in all fairness. I like it but that\'s about it. The comment was a bit harsh, but then as you say, it could be that taste/language whassit got in the way

I dunno. I think originality is over-rated. It\'s pretty easy to be original, I like visiting CMON to see extremely well painted and sculpted minis.

This mini didn\'t really float my boat, I gave it a 7 (the harsh comment and the 5 from bird must have been the result of a stressful day or something).

have commented. even if i didn\'t like the paintjob, i\'d have given it at least a 6. as far as i\'m concerned a 5 is blocks of colour that aren\'t too messy with some attempt at highlighting/shading. i think yours goes a little higher than that. and those pompoms do looks good, thats how they look when being thrashed about.

damn i wish we had cheerleaders over here. it\'d make more people watch cricket thats for sure!!

I think it\'s about right at 7. The guy posting a 5 does have some points and I believe it\'s what brings the mini down to 7. The White is really well done and of course we all know how hard bright white is to look right, and of course the stars are just right as well.

I never said anything about \"normal people\" and I reserve judgment on that one.lol

I said I wanted the \"average person\'s\" impression, and Eric you aren\'t average.

Basically I didn\'t want to get all my friends in the forums who get my jokes here to go laugh at the jokes in my gallery and possibly artifically boost the piece. The score reflects the average tabeltop player who watches CMON, not the average posting freak.

Do Dallas Cowgirls really have black pom poms? Honestly I never noticed, I thought they were metalic silver and blue.

Seriously, that looks so natural! Even though the thought of a cheerleader with mode body armor than the football players does seem ... odd.

I\'m from Texas so I gave you an 8. Really my only complaint is that the pom-poms need to be more blue. I think that the current score is about right but my Texas pride made me vote one higher
