i truly hate teaching idiots

oh dont forget im supposed to be a miracle worker. you know teachers need to be held accountable for everything now. bullcrap!!!
same kid today started talking back to me yet again. has told me multiple times he hates art and sees no point to it. i said if you write a 10 page paper double spaced on the reason why art is not needed in the world or school, and backs up his stuff with valid points, then he does not have to do any, and i mean ANY artwork in my class for the next two years. of course the punk said no. its too much work for him, he says. even got the ok from the administration too. so he was eating candy, told him to throw it out cause the deal is if you want some, you have to ask first to eat it. he complains, i yell and say i dont care, just shut your mouth, fail my class and see if i care. never thought i would be so callous. but you know what im done with caring about every kid. if it was 10 years ago i might have. today i just dont have time for it. i have a life and my own kids. i dont have time for a kid that wont do crap, and even when i try to be nice, slaps my hand away. screw him and his life. i already know where he's goin. jail by 20.

Yes. You need to be held 100% responsible for teaching the kids in your class the arts. No excuse.
However, you also need the authority to remove those that refuse to even try.

i however am not responsible for their grades in other classes, getting in trouble out of school, behavior issues in and around the school, their general well being as a student. thats what parents are for as well. on average i spend 2 minutes a day talking to each student. how the heck am i supposed to be held accountable when its 2 minutes a day. if new legislation goes through then i am going to have to be graded on my teaching based upon reading, or math standards instead of art. whilst at the same time having to teach art standards. its crazy honestly. and considering my base pay is going to be reduced by 12k....yeah im done. lol.

I feel for you ubie. Im not a "proper" teacher. But i am a full time swimming teacher, from learning the basics right up to commonwealth standard. I know the kid's you describe, my own brother is that one kid. A waster at school and out. All my student's WANT to be taught, which is good and i take it for granted.
Pity you couldnt backhand the wee git. My drama teacher smacked me one for being completly out of turn and I apolgised to him. Im 25 so teachers were not alowed to hit but it helped me. He turned out to be one of the coolest teachers i had.

Since when were kids allowed to eat candy in school? I never was allowed to eat anything in class. Gotta love the school system letting kids get all "sugared up." I remember when I was back in school, one kid was being a total asswipe, so the teacher came up to him and threw his books against the wall and yelled in his face. The whole class behaved the rest of the year, and I have to say, he was one of my favorite teachers! Too bad you can't do that now, instead of teaching and demanding respect, the admins conform to the way parents raise their kids now; with the whole touchy feely "how do you feel?" kind of absurd parenting. Sometimes kids need to be shown who is boss, and excellence needs to be demanded.

Get together the credentials to work at the community college level. Bit better of pay, bit more flexible of hours, and most of the students that take the course actually work at it. (aside from Art Appreciation where everyone chooses to take their 1 mandatory class)
This one teacher, Mrs. Nix, is a pretty lousy teacher. (how awesome a name is that?) But she's a very good artist and most of the kids that care learn quite a bit from her. The only stressful part of her job is Art Appreciation and the yearly college art show. She has zero organizational skills which is why she's not the greatest teacher and she gets stressed out by the art show. And she's kind of a pushover.
Anyways if things really suck as they are, look up to higher education. Might save what little sanity you falsely claim to have.

i dont deny i have little patience left for public education. i am considering home schooling my children at this point. i just got my app in at the art institute of indianapolis. if i can make it till may and get a job there im sooo frickin done. personally i would much rather do construction or even work fast food than doing this. but money is what keeps me here for now. construction pays less than my teaching, and i know little of the trade, and we all know fast food sucks. idk...just tired.....very very tired.

I had this some decade ago as a student, I loved art class but there we're ALWAYS a handful of pubeless attention whoring wannabe gangster shit faces that screwed it up for those of us who wanted to enjoy the class, when you have disruptive pupils you have to be allowed to deal with them for the sake of the teacher and those who want to be involved. Needless to say sucessive Governments have depleted the stock of national backbone and these days teachers have no power and in some cases are afraid to even say the wrong thing for fear of reprisal or quite realistically being verbally and physically attacked in some areas. I wouldn't teach, I couldn't, I'd be jailed. Hope that app goes well man then gtfo of there.
