But I bit the bullet and decided to submit one of my horses. It's a collage of the one in my avatar.

I submitted her this morning and was stunned that she's already approved - we got some rockin' and rollin' mods! Thank you!

Thus far, I see one registered voter doesn't care for her too much. But we'll see how it goes and knowing my luck I'll step it in big time and it won't be horse pucky. ;)

Thanks guys! Well, everyone turned her around for me and she took quite a jump. So thank you voters!

lol! Thanks 10 - if you look at the little collage I posted, in the upper right hand corner is the real horse reference I used when I painted her.

Thanks Spoon! Yes, the long hair on the legs and around the hooves is called feathers. Gypsy Vanners and Drum Horses are well known for having a lot of it. But it varies from draft breed to draft breed.

from the looks of the painting it seems fairly clear that you are around horse s a bit as around the eyes of the horse are so real. It also looks like you study th real horse for quite a while before starting the paint job all this is clear as it is a realy nice paint job. Wel done look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Wamph! And yes, when I find a reference horse, I try to find one with as many photos from as many angles as possible. It's surprising how much detail is lost to "guessing". When I'm around my horse and my friend's, I find myself studying various things and making mental notes from an "artist's" perspective so to speak. It's funny you mention the eyes because when I'm standing there holding my (or any) horse waiting our turn for the vet or farrier, well the eyes are right there so that's usually what I end up studying the most. ;)

I'm really happy to see that you have posted this little beauty. Not many people do Gypsy Vanners and Drum Horses in this colourway, they tend to go for a solid colour on them. Love the tone around the nose and mouth. You have got me out of my rut with horses, (love painting them) so now back to painting my brets :)

That's great to hear, Crys! And thank you, I'm very glad you like her. In the US the Gypsy and Drum horses with color are very popular and there are several farms really trying to improve the breed (and by improve I mean breed for high quality in all areas, not just flashy color). Me...I love spots and roans.

I can't wait to see your Brets when you're done with them!

I have to admit - I was a bit concerned as well. Not only because she wasn't a "space marine" (I bet cass could make a real nice beak helmet for her). But just the fact she doesn't have any tack or extra detail sculpted onto her. Miniatures and figures are usually packed with armor, weapons, tack, barding - you name it. So I was really worried that she'd take a hit because she didn't have all of the trimmings.

Don't get me wrong, The model horse hobbyists love their detail too, we just do it differently.

These are tiny jump boots for horses made exactly like the real thing. Real leather and yes, you have to buckle them on.

This is a jump setup I have for a another model I'm working on.

Both items are for larger scale but we do have the smaller scale stuff that would fit my girl - but that stuff is out of this world expensive. But you get the idea. ;)

no need to rephase all of us here know what it s like to be into a hobby/ pass time that not many other s understand that goes down to our friends, famly and wifes. So keep up the good work and keep posting

Thanks wamphyri. It's really remarkable. In the model horse hobby, I hear ladies complain how their husbands or significant others don't get why they spend all this money on plastic ponies and give them a bad time about it. Then I hear guys say how their wives and significant others don't understand their painting or collecting miniatures. I know one couple, only one, the girlfriend collects and paints horses and the boyfriend collects and paints 40k. Those two actually understand each other's hobbies. lol!
