Which sort of makes the following quote sort of ironic ... \"An island is only an island when viewed from the water.\" It\'s twice as ironic because it is only ironic in the original novel. When the novel was made into a movie they moved the town from the Hamptons to Massachusets.

I own a boat. Hasn\'t been used in years because although they recently built a brand new boat ramp, they changed the river in such a way that they river silts up with every north-easter we get from the sound. I also own a fiberglass canoe.

The quote by the way comes from Jaws when the police captain is explaining why he lives on the island even though he is scared of the water. The novel also has an affair between the shark expert and the captain\'s wife.

Unfortunately my fishing in recent years has been confined to my local Knights Columbus fishing trips on a rented party boat. If I ever get the chance I need to try out a new theory of mine ...

You need a jazz quartet to fish the blues. lol

Oh! If they are actually going to DO something, actually pitch in and WORK, then more power to them, but those kind are so few and far between as to become negligable.

By the way, much the same goes for all the reporters and camera crews cruising around in boats and helicopters without bothering to either rescue anyone or at least bring along some food and water to hand out. Okay, after day 1, you\'ve brought us the story, now either help us out or hand over your boat/helicopter.

help? they are helping, they\'re bringing us the pictures of the same people trapped on their roof for five days.....that\'s great tv ya know....if they helped, they wouldn\'t have such great tv, now would they? :rolleyes:

I don\'t know - I\'ve always taken him for a gamer. Historics mainly. Confused fella mind you - I see him playing Napoleonics against martians or something, always playing the side that can\'t lose. I can also see him doing the old Rick/Bottom chess game antics, with machine gun sounds and the lot. But I bet he\'s crap at painting. He uses enamels thickly.

As for the rest... I\'ve stopped paying attention to the news again. It\'s too depressing.

Mr. Brown had plenty of experience. The Arabian Horse Society was an organization. FEMA is an organization.
He headed both.
Oh, look. He was fired from the equestrian society....

Agreed. But at least you get a chance to vote out the polititions (not that the idiot public ever does).

It is the bureaucrats that scare me. They get to make rules without ever being accountable to the public.

They scare me too. Case in point doctors working for FEMA could not get the necessary supplies. The reason. The bureaucrats required them to fill out and fax all the necessary paperwork. Even though there was no working fax system to and from the emergency locations.

Fortunately the military stepped in.

LOL etc, I bet many people wont get that reference though. Bottom, I suspect, is pretty much a British phenomenon???

What, Americans can\'t like bottom? I find a good bottom quite enchanting. Like you British are the only people fascinated by them, I mean REALLY!lol
