A few things you won\'t hear on the media:
According to a National Guardsman I work with who was in New Orleans during the hurricane and just got his first day off:
Over 200 bodies were pulled out of the Superdome, it was estimated only about 50 were natural causes.
A rapist was caught in the superdome after raping a 9 year old girl and in the process of raping a 14 year old. Apparently he didn\'t survive.
The guardsmen were coming under Heavy fire a lot of the times.
The SEALs were sent in with special forces and apparently took out around 140 looters and gunmen.
My friend witnessed buses in New Orleans trying to get people on them, the night of the hurricane but people still refusing.
While the guardsmen were in the Superdome, they were constantly acossted, and asked, \"When are you going to feed us?\" and \'When are you going to get us out of here?\"
He told me their was about 6 inches of feces on the floors of the Superdome.
He said and I quote, \"If it weren\'t my job I wouldn\'t go back.\"
The debit cards that FEMA has been handing out has been stopped, reports of these homeless people going and buying playstations and other non-needed items were rampant. One guy even used the money to buy a new set of rims for his car.
I feel sorry for Houston and all the others who are taking in the refugees, because now a problem that was localized has been spread nationwide.

i\'m not steeping into the whole political thing here but i saw a great (bad taste but i laughed) of a woman in new orleans crying with george w with a guitar photochopped next to her. the title of the pic was \'there is a house in new orleans...\' i laughed but felt a little guilty. i\'m an arse like that

I personally hate Bush,because he is a monkey except instead of learning new tricks he exponentially gets dumber as time goes on. This (recent) hatred of Bush has had NOTHING to do with the war and even more NOTHING to do with the New Orleans disaster....which he incidently caused through black magic and global warming from his ass, all the way from Crawford. It\'s the people his surrounds himself with and won\'t fire for incompetence. Working for him is the paragon of job safety.
No I don\'t think he hates blacks, he is equally out of touch with all of us.

Anger/wrath/blaming seem wildly popular nowadays. The idea that \'things happen\' seems simply lost. There is always someone to blame/hate. The great tit of government should ALWAYS feed me, protect me, save me, help me. During the 1906 quake my town was hit harder than San Francisco. We are long over due for another \'big one\'. Not if, but when it hits I\'m not going to be wringing my hands over what someone else should be doing for me. I\'m going to be making it happen my self. I\'m not rich so it\'s not like I will hop in my Hummer and sail away. If the government or a relief agency helps me, great. My life is MY responsibility. Right now I dont have food or water stored. If I die as a result.........it\'s my fault not the government\'s. I have no great love for the government, actually I rather dispise alot of what I see. We in the west have allowed much of our own soul to be rotted away by EXPECTING someone else to always be responsible.......eg. lawsuits for everything. In the modern world of \'cradel to grave government\' my life as it is now is not a product of what I have done but what the government now allows or what someone else has done to me or for me. More and more helpless clones and lemmings.
There is an old saying about people who live in \"glass houses,\" but people forget to ask why build glass houses in the first place?
While I cringe at the thought that natural disasters are a great source of urban development, this has been going long before Nero fiddled while Rome burned. (Nero wanted to redesign that part of the city anyway.)
The Florida Keys have been hit with hurricanes many times in history. Over time some things were abandoned. (Like slow moving steam locomotives trying to evacuate people from a hurricne or just trying to go up and down the keys in general.) Housing codes were designed so that all structures are built above the potential storm surge, even if that means building hills for commercial property and building houses from literally the second floor up.
Everyone knew that the city was sinking at an annual rate due to the actions of the people of the city. Everyone knew but they all did nothing. Everyone knew that the levies were not designed to work against a category 4 hurricane so the only question on the levies was never if but when. Eventually when was then.
Everyone knew that nursing homes and hospitals needed to have adequate evacuation plans but noone thought to do a simple sanity check to make sure that the actual bus/helicopter company was not so overbooked doing this service that they could not meet their obligations, much less meet ther obligations when state and federal officials were hijacking and confiscating their vechicles.
All of these are letigimate concerns. Katrina is, as they say, history, you can\'t change history. But you can\'t forget history either. You have to learn from history not act like a moron in the face of it. Turning NO into a trailer park, as FEMA is dead set on doing is so stupid that one can\'t even reasonally comment on it without resorting to some sort of vulgarity.
