Well, I\'ve edited it to read as Crazy Catholic loon now, so maybe people will be less offended.

The subject is very interesting though.

what did reverend say in the first place?
be nice to finaly have (in my view) the obvious confirmed, that there is life on other planets. As for the religion, i dont really see the problem with his comments, though to me it seems impossible that all life forms belive in jesus. other than that, i reckon its a good plan to stay off religion, its a massive isssue people kick off over

I agree with one of the posters on that forum, it\'s probably best for any other alien lifeform not to come in contact with human kind, a lifeform that through evolution has developed the base instinct to breed, dominate and exploit.

The Jesuit says...

\"We shouldn\'t be afraid of the truth. \"

But what is that insinuating?

I feel like maybe there is something that ISN\'T being said. Or somehow the church\'s opinion in the past was to hide the truth.

Maybe I\'m reading too much into it.

Sorry it didn\'t call for more in depth conversation, I thought it would after all the \"what\'s your favorite color\" threads
that have been surfacing lately.

Ok I can\'t hold back anymore. lol. Before I go off on a rant a short explanation of my background is required so that you guys know where I am coming from. I was raised in a Roman Catholic family, went to catholic school for the first 8 years of my eduction. I am not religious by any means (i.e. going to church, observing certain holidays, etc,) but I do believe in God in the form that he is presented by the Catholic Church. I have also done extensive studies during college of Church history as well as ancient history which has a lot to do with religion.

Now, time for my rant...

Very true Vike, it does seem like something isn\'t being said or the Church tried hiding the truth in the past.

Unfortunately that is the sad truth of what the Roman Catholic Church was as an institution for hundreds of years. Only within the last 40 years or so have they taken a less secretive and modern approach to their policy. From the crusades, inquisition to ODESA, it\'s history has been filled with mystery and some would even say lies.

Now as far as this issue goes, it seems like a very strange approach for the Church to take. I mean as far as I have been taught, we are God\'s children, and by we I mean humans. So it is just weird to see them trying to take such a drastic and modern approach and adapting their doctrine beyond the earth.

\"We shouldn\'t be afraid of the truth. \"

Wow I really don\'t know what to think here. As far as I know, with the knowledge we have now, no one is afraid of what is out there, or the so called \"truth.\" So it does hint as if the Church knows more than they are willing to say at the moment. And I guess I wouldn\'t be too surprised if that were the case. I mean they do have their own observatory, one that is amongst the world\'s most advanced.

Yes the Church did hide a lot of the truth in the past or dismissed it as heresy so that they could in their words \"protect the faithful\" but really they were just making sure they weren\'t losing any of their power.

The thing that bugs me most about this is the fact that it was said by a Jesuit. The Jesuit order was created to counter the Protestant Reformation and they were/are one of the most strict orders within the church. So it is just odd seeing a Jesuit present such a radical idea.

Anyhow, I can probably wright a book on this but I won\'t bore you guys anymore than I just did. I hope this makes some sort of sense at least. Cheers!

ok, first of all, im a complete aetheist, my parents are slightly christian but i do not belive in any form of god or gods. in my opinion, he may be saying this so that the church does not appear to be clinging to old ideals in the face of overwhelming scientific probability, whether he believes it or not

Also, you are of course referring to the catholic church as all of christianity, which or course is wrong, the catholic church is a branch of church...
