Anything not covered by the other forums; eg. manufacturer choice, price discussions, marriage proposals..
We haven\'t had one of those yet, have we ? ;)

Will someone please marry me...

Hey, Toosh. I started to propose once, but , uh, got distracted by something shiny :D I think it ended up being a request to turn the chicken in the oven or something:D
Sorry. Once (or twice) bitten, twice(thrice) shy:D

Of course, all that was before I saw your picture. I amy have to rethink my position. That\'s my anti-marriage position, all you dirty minded pervs!;)

I hope you didn´t find my topic provoking. The reason i brought this up is that i´m a member of another forum where we discuss ancient philosophy, mainly atomism. However, due to a number of posts from visitors, we have seen a wide range of subjects such as \"what to eat at McDonalds\", \"Boiled or fried potatoes\", \"Who would you sleep with on Ally McBeal\" and so on. My personal opinion is that \"anything goes\" (to quote Feyerabend). However, a lot of people seem to think that the forum will \"water down\" and become less of a meeting place for the subject. Hence, the term \"irrelevant\" (as inapropriate as it might sound) could refer to the one intended subject of the forum.
The problem that arises here is that of the following:
Is there just ONE intended subject - or is there a pluralism. Did people come to the public square in ancient Greece to discuss ONE thing?
Still we face the danger of scaring off some really serious painters if we discuss stuff not related to the hobby... Or?

That might be the point of a \"General Discussion\" forum as opposed to, say, \"Painting and Conversions\". If we limited talk in General Discussion to painting stuff, it\'d bear an uncanny resemblance to our current \"Painting and Conversions\". In short, if someone doesn\'t want to have general discussions, then maybe the General Discussion forum isn\'t for him - much like someone who can\'t give a crap about CAV will never set foot in the CAV forum.

General Discussion does not prevent, impair, or otherwise disrupt \"serious\" painting discussions, since they take place in a whole other forum. Therefore, I really fail to see a problem.

And I\'ll have a Big Mac, fried potatoes, and Lucy Liu please. ;)

Hmm... There are some ideas for new topics. I wonder how long it takes until we see them in the General Discussion forum...:]

Basically, if anyone has got their head so far up their own rectum that they can\'t enjoy a bit of banter as well as the serious stuff then IMO they can get themselves a map and a Mars bar and take a hike..... :flip:

I\'ve been to some of those other, serious forums and frankly they leave me cold.

Besides, I could fill a page with the world-class painters who regularly join in the forum chat and give us their pearls of wisdom. Very recently, Vincent, winner of the Canadian Slayer Sword, was happily discussing his recipe for NMM gold:wow: How cool is that?

I personally believe the atmosphere in the CMON forums attracts more people than it repels and, as has been noted elsewhere, the forums appear to be growing ever more popular:D:wow:

Oh sure, some will be scared off. But as I mentioned in the other post, I feel off-topic discussions are a good way to bond. People will stay on since it\'s fun being there. I\'ve seen several lists die which did not have this.

P
As a serious painter I am scared that I may be forced to become addicted to some seriously funny and cool converstations with some neat folks and not paint. I think that is the only threat here. Sounds like you still may be taking this forum a bit too seriously.- the forums are definately a good place for people in this hobby to blow off steam. :flame:lol I like what everyone has had to say on this subject- just don\'t have a Yao man.

Honestly... there are a lot of posts that help and give suggestions for painting and techniques... I like the off topic stuff ... aka \"general discussion\'\' hint hint... because it helps solidify friendships, and help each other realize that we are not alone in what we do and others out there paint and are social. Just imagine it as a group of painters.. around a table painting.. and sharing ideas, beliefs, views, and opinions... we nurture each other in more ways than just \"painting minis\" ... ;)

It\'s taken me a while to see this post and now that I have I feel compelled to comment.

If it wasn\'t for the irrelevant discussions I would never post and would probably have lost interest in this site a long time ago, mainly due to my lack of painting skills, digital camera etc.

But when I eventually start painting again at least I know where there is a valuable resource to help me improve.

And I promise I will have at least one picture up before I hit 100 posts.

Bic Mac? I´d say Mc Fish simply because I don´t eat red meat. Lucy Liu? I couldn´t possibly argue with that...ever! Still not convinced, just check out Kill Bill.
Fried potatoes? This requires some discussion. It´s needless to say that you can do more with them if you fry them. Boiled potatoes depends on the other components in the meal while fried potatoes can be delicious in themselves. I prefer cooking them in the oven with garlic and spices.
How do you all feel about it? Any good recipes?

You would probably not have gotten away with starting that \"Your favourite food\" topic in another forum.lol

Gods no ! If you can\'t take the scumpious deliciousness of a big fat Mac, at least go for a more classic McChicken. :innocent:

And THAT\'s why I love general discussion ! lol

McDonald\'s used to have a pretty tasty veggie burger... McGarden, I think. Not any more, though :~(

@azurmage: I think you\'ve just hijacked your own topic! :D

Right, so the thread got hijacked and it\'s about Macdonalds now? Good, a question for the lot of you since we are from all over the world. Travellers amongst us may have noticed that Macdonalds have specialties per country. Like Mackroket in the Netherlands (kind of thick meat ragout with a bread crumb cover), Ozzieburger in Australia (big mac with beetroot if I remember right) and a Macdo version of Croque Monsieur in France. So, what do you have in your country?

@Ritual. We still have veggie burgers here, so you can put that on your list if you ever visit the Netherlands.

Well... Since McD pulled their veggie burger off the menu here I don\'t eat there anymore, so I don\'t know about any Swedish specialties. There is, however, a burger place here in Stockholm that serves burgers with caviar (???). I don\'t know how that tastes but my guess is: :|~:|~:|~

Why, I didn\'t. ;)

I had to wait on a decent digi cam. I refused to scan them and take the hit in points for bad pics. I\'ll take my hit in point for bad minis - thank you very much.

YOINK - And I haven\'t eaten at a McDonalds since my kids turned 5 & discoved the joys of burger king & dairy queen.

Well it gets referred to as Coypu burger by a few of my friends.
(Which is some kind of Argentinian Water Rat.....Says a lot about the regard McD\'s have!)
