Is money important?

Well, yeah, because more people are tools that spend, getting deeper into debt than those that pay it off quickly.

IE: When you have a house, land, a dependable vehicle and all your debts are paid, and all you have is utilities, then you are pretty much as free as you will ever be. Don\'t like your job? Quit, you can pay utilities on minimum wage.

Firstly, why do people get into debt? Why are more people in debt now than there have ever been? Big business creaming people (those who can\'t afford it obviously!) who are buying into a lifestyle that is rammed down their throat 24 hours a day.
Yeah, because big business is forcing you, with a gun to your head, to go out with those credit cards.

Come on man, it\'s not that hard to sit down and plot your expenses. You figure out what are needs and budget for them, and what are wants and cut them. (Or keep them in depending on your paycheck.)
If you go over what you make, this is a bad thing.

The real problem is that a lot of people have trouble differentiating between a \"Need\" and a \"Want\".
You can blame that on Big Business, but I blame it on a lack of common sense, and a sense of entitlement.
As for that second statement, well that\'s just pissing into the wind for the vast majority of people. It\'s almost impossible for the average university graduate to afford to buy even a small property over here at the moment.

My sister just bought a poxy 2 bedroomed terrace. $250000. $1700 a month mortgage. Try paying that off quickly!!

Notice, I underlined part of your quote.
Why do you choose to live in an area that is extremely hard for you to get ahead?
Who is forcing you to do this?
Move, dude.
I never said it was easy. I never said you wouldn\'t have to make sacrifices.
No one is entitled to this stuff, you have to work hard and make many sacrifices, but it can be done, I\'ve done it, I know many who have. It\'s all a matter of choice and discipline.
Hence, why money is important, and why it can buy freedom, you just have to choose to spend it that way.
