Is this a winter event?

Just curious, I have noticed 3 groups of people on CMON.
1) Those who lurk in the shadows. These are the people who have been on since 2001 and have 5 posts on the board.
2) Those who burst on the scene and fizzle. 50 posts in 2 weeks then where\'d they go.
3) Posting Freaks - and the rest of us. Normal people lol who are on regularly and post something daily.

I wonder about the first two groups. Most people wonder what wrong with the third group but that is from the outside looking in.
There doesnt seem to be as much chatter as ther was when I first joined. Is this just me learning how to filter the useless info or a lack of interest over the summer? I can only think of 3 users that are frequent and kind of new. Cheers!

Not as much chatter ?! Man, I have trouble keeping up with what there is...lol

But I think I can speak for Group #1. It took me a few weeks to get up the courage to post, and when I did, it\'s because the topic was practically screaming my name. When you post in a forum, you feel like you already know everybody because you\'ve been reading their posts, but they don\'t know who the heck you are. Guess those group 1 people didn\'t feel comfortable enough (or brave enough) to keep posting.

I, on the other hand, have been made to feel very welcome, and I\'ll keep posting as time allows, as long as I have something relevant to add. lol

I feel the only time this group is not welcoming is when they are obliged to ask \"who the hell do you think you are?\" I have seen this only once this summer and some would say that was not entirely uncalled for. CMON, I felt was a place that was comforting to everybody. The way to start is by posting on things that nobody cares about. If it is a really heated issue - people can get emotional. And yes, I do think the amount of posts has slowed a little.

Guess I picked a good topic to start posting on then (one \"nobody cares about\"), the whole \"I need a girlfriend\" thread. That whole thread\'s been a riot!lol

I don\'t think it\'s a question of feeling comfortable. I know that on my first day I posted a question and got the help I needed. I think it is more along the lines of feeling that you don\'t have something to offer to a particular post. Reading through both new and old posts, I know that there are few which I could probably adequatelly add on to. At the same time, there are the regulars who have inside jokes and relationships already set up, and it is hard to find the right time to insert yourself into the mix.

I think the best advice for a new person who does want to post more often is to simply look for chances to get involved in a conversation, but make sure it\'s relevent or has some sort of substance to it. Simply typing \"me too\" or \"I agree\" will get you posts, but will offer nothing to the community. Even new painters have some tidbits to share. Just remeber quality over quantity.

It don\'t have to be relevant sometimes. Just look to Finn17, Sturmhalo, Reverend & me (Dragonsreach) to see that. But in the majority of cases I try (emphasis on try!) to stay on topic. It\'s just ocassionally there are topics which make me put on my stupid head (as opposed to the dumb one I use for work!).

Never be afraid to post onto a thread, what\'s the worst that could happen?.Reverend don\'t answer that! (Think Dr Pepper ads!)
Most of us, !are sensible and appreciate good comments, criticisms, laughs etc. But one thing stands out on every thread/ forum we are all friends on this site with the same hobby aspirations and desire to beat the other artists.

So welcome to the forums and have some fun with the rest of us.lol

About the lost of interset over summer, This in my opinion what most probably hapened. I for one did not get to post a lot over summer between vacation and just hanging out with friends I didn\'t even get that much time to paint But as the end of My summer vacations slowly approche I\'m starting to paint and log on CMON more often. So rejoice you should soon see a regain of activity on the forum.

As a definate member of group 1 I can say its nothing to do with confidence its just not having much to add, still havent got a decent camera so although i vote and comment abit I cant submit, and most threads whatever I would say has already been said, so why echo the words?

As for the spam/general atmosphere I would postmore, but I am part of a gaming guild and have that forum for the general chatter and dont want to try to keep up with both.

I am kind of like a sparkle and fade hobbyist. I go in waves. I\'ll be all gung-ho and paint up a bunch of minis and play a couple of games and sputter out like Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang. Then I\'ll go for a month or two where just looking at the pics bores me to tears. So I focus my creativity in other areas. I write or draw or pay attention to my wife. Then when I get bored of those things I return to CMON.

when i 1st came i just snagged pics for the longest time. i finally registered because i wanted it to track my votes then a banner coompetition drew me in and i keep getting sucked in and out ever since. . . . ..........

it does take a while to form a ass groove.

Hmm started in group one, then shifted to group 3 - not quite a posting freak yet - last time I checked there were only two of them so far - but I tend to post more than I did when I started coming here - course when I started a little more than a year ago there were only about 4000 minis on the site, and now we\'re pushing 20,000 pictures - I\'ve also found that as I get caught up on rating minis I post more often as well.

I think it does take a little while to gain confidence before posting in a forum. For starters it\'s nice to think you aren\'t being a complete numpty when you \'offer\' advice - but hey, it\'s never stopped me lol

I spent a little while figuring out what people were like and also where in the world they were. Afterall it can be easy to offend someone when the SOH doesn\'t quite translate or you simply pick up the wrong end of the stick ???

I\'m beginning to feel quite at home here (sorry) - there\'s something for all occassions. Good painting/modelling advice when it\'s needed, a good laugh and plenty of opinions to respond too.

I really missed being a member of a model club, but I\'ve found a new one now in CMON and *sob* I just want to thank everyone who\'s ever \'spoken\' to me or *sob* helped me with my problems.....

Ah the denoumonte, say I caught sharpening my teeth and whetting my appitite, intent to feast upon the masses at the tables of Golden Deamon.
(In plain speak: finally got my finger out and started to paint properly after all the constructive criticsm and assistance I\'d got from Coolmini posters).
I owe a lot of people for all the help & suggestions I\'ve received. If I started to list them all I\'d never get started at work! But look to all the high forum posters (including you Finn) for the help!

Don\'t wait until you have something interesting or funny to say, dive right in and pretend you do!! As my mother always told me: \"Don\'t touch yourself th...!\" oh no! That was something else! Oh! I know: \"He who hesitates is lost!\"

I\'ve always believed in the shotgun approach. Throw enough things out there and one of them is bound to be interesting, funny, though-provoking, helpful, stupid, etc.:moon: GO ahead. Dive in!

Speaking for myself it\'s not lack of interest (in fact I\'ve done more painting this summer than I have in the past couple years) but rather lack of a reliable internet connection.
It\'s just not worth the time and hassle to connect from home with the old phone line, what with this site being so picture heavy.
Now that school\'s on again I can pop in the library between classes and resume my old habbit of annoying all of you with obscure quotes about Bolton

(that\'s one for DragonsReach and one for the person who commented about inside jokes - hah 2 obscure references in one!)
