Is this hobby taking over your life?

I was walking past a bookshop this lunchtime and saw a book on display called Pirate Elves and thought \"that sounds cool\". It wasn\'t until I started flicking through it that I realised it was actually called \"Private Lives\" and my brainwashed mind had filtered it into geek at first glance.

Anyone else finding this hobby controlling their eyes, ears thoughts etc?

I find myself looking at things and saying \"that would be cool if I did.....\". Everything is a basing idea or a basing material. o I guess the answer would be yes. I\'m obssessed.

Well two things remind of beeing a \"painting geek\":

1. If I read a good novel or watch a cool movie I start thinking about what mini-company would produce a matching model for the main character of the novel/movie... :D
2. I look at surfaces (mainly metal or chrome) and start thinking of how I can paint this to achieve a good effekt...

You are all obviously possesed by the hobby, so I will undertake the task of curing you. First you must send all you miniatures to me so that I can \"dispose of them\" then send me allm your excess money so you cannot by mini\'s.;):)

Nope, but viewing other peoples\' efforts at hobby stuff does take up far too much my time considering my own constant and abject failure to be hobby boy!

I do this too!!!

I admit I have \'minis\' on the mind more often than not. But I\'ve began to draw back a bit....it used to be a very seasonal hobby for me (once the weather turned bad, I began to look for them) but the last few years have made it a year round obsession.

I would dare say that this hobby is an IMPORTANT part of my life, but not overly so.

my god, you people are crazy ;) I haven\'t painted anything for months, and I can\'t be arsed to find inspiration either. I\'ve got one idea in my head that will most definitely win me the Slayer Sword next year :)D) and that\'s all i need to think about.

Uh oh, Bill\'s contracted Catmanitus. A most unhealthy condition.

Oh, and I\'m getting the Slayer Sword next year, so you\'d better start focusing on Gold in a category I don\'t enter (awaits the inevitable \"So that would be all of them then?\" response)

Well they are all fairly tricky, except for YB. Some numpty called Bob Jobbring or something like that won it this year and his entry was average at best. ;)

Well not to say I\'ve got an addictive personality but I smoke I drink I gamble and collect anyhing and everything.. I have a illion subscriptions going out to different magazines from collecting star wars stuff to Beetles to scuba diving....

I used to work at GW and do this as a hobby and it really took over my life...now I paint freelance and still enjoy my hobby but find myself spending more time doing my other passions..golfing and scuba diving... That said I was at the golf course last week and picked up several twigs stones and the odd interesting bit of bark for bases...I guess it\'s well and truly in my blood but in fairness I wouldn\'t want it any other way..
Say it loud I\'m a Geek and I\'m proud.

When I was heavily into programming I would look at a tree and thing \"man, the poly count on that thing is huge!\" Now I think \"What green is that, and how would I highlight it?\"

BTW, I would like to take this moment to declare that my 8 and 6 year old daughters have come to an understanding. Sarah will be painting the Tomb Kings and Lily will be painting Orcs & Goblins. My son has yet to pick an army, but he\'s only 3. Pfft. It will probably be Chaos.

Oh, yeah. It\'s taking over.

First I need to get myself one of these life things you\'re talking about, then I can decide whether the hobby is taking it over. It is taking over this room though. Barely any space left in here.

Or it could be you just had a \'stutter\'. I don\'t wach NFL, and it is definitely not abundant in Korea, and I saw something that at first was a football reference.

Its common. Nothing special really.

I wish! I find myself getting bored quickly these days. If I ever have 2 hours to kill, and the weather outside is halfway decent, I\'ll put in a round of disc golf with some buddies.
If weather is crap, I fire up my 360, or I watch TV with the wife. Or I sit and stare at my fish chase each other around their tank. Or I read.

In fact, I\'ve gotten so little done at my painting station in the last few months, I\'m ashamed. Two mini\'s got basecoat metallics on them, and that\'s it. My washes are going to take some time, and I just haven\'t had enough of it to sit down and get the metals done.
