ok so i know the title is interesting, but hey here it goes. so im a teacher, i teach k-8th grade. and today i had the fortune to look upon yet another child who is dressed like britney spears from her hit me baby one more time era. and she was a 2nd grader children! not to mention she is covered in pleather, spaghetti straps, and spandex (which is a privilege not a right imho). and she is also quite large. its moments like these where you have to go shudder and wonder what the hell is going on? and when did the fashion industry decide it was ok for us to have prostituting 8 year olds. idk, am i the only one that has to wonder why a 2nd grader is wearing a bra? discuss.

Dude, this was going on while I was still in the 9th grade. As for 8 year old kids, I don't know. I thought they were being influenced by the likes of Miley Cyrus and all of that nonsense. As for the 13+ crowd? I get this feeling that teenage girls think that by dressing like a popular adult, and acting like a popular adult, they can in fact get the adoration/privileges of a popular adult.
I currently reside in Alabama where the obesity epidemic is the 2nd or 3rd highest in the nation. Husky teenage girls with acne and braces are parading around in things that I wouldn't even find appealing on a professional stripper. Religious schoolgirls are breaking loose when they get home and wearing horribly over-sexed clothing and then become indignant if everyone around them doesn't think they're "hawt".
On a positive note, Alabama does seem to have a sudden revival of sundresses as of late. Some of the women sport them quite fashionably down here.

Childhood is a fairly modern invention. I personally don't think it's a good idea to shelter children too long from responsibilities. Teaching a girl that one of the important things in life is her appearance (sad but true) may be a good thing. Although if she's being taught that it's the only thing then maybe that's not so smart.

It's a phase. Every kid tries to copy things they see as they go about learning who they are. Most of them will grow out of it, one day looking back and saying, "Holy crap, I can't believe I dressed like that!" As long as the appropriate adults (parents & teachers) encourage some responsibility and make sure it's not encouraging sexual predations, let them live and learn.

Its not only in the UK, trust me. But here its obvious that it depends on the area around the school and the home of these kids and what kind of social status the people there have. The lower it gets, the more slut-like the kids turns and the less the parents seam to care.

This is one (of many) thing that if I were to sit and really think about what's wrong with people/the world, I would absolutely go to jail for slapping so many people upside the head in a vicious attempt at invoking something called "common sense" - particularly parents.
I console myself with the thought that I have spent all that energy instead, in instilling this thing (common sense) into my kids slowly over time with compassion and love and a hard lesson once in a while. It seems to have worked out alright. My 16 year old daughter is intelligent enough and has been given enough self esteem that not only does she does not dress in this way, she knows why she shouldn't portray herself this way. That's what makes me most furious is it's not the media's fault (solely), it's the parents. And that lack of responsibility the parents refuse to show ..... grrrrrrr .... makes me want to commit certain slappings as previously mentioned.

It's the same over here too. It's actually quite hard to find a girl who is younger than me and isn't dressed as a hoe. The way I see it, is that the last wave of actual normal people are now past secundary school. Everyone younger than 18 is mos tlikely dressed as a hoe. Like my old secundary school now; they're everywhere and it seems like a hit to play along the lines of all those rappers; bitches in da club and mah pimps with dah bling-theme.
I hate it. They're just fun to watch, not to actually talk to any of them.

Well, if the parents don't do anything to tell the kid that what she's wearing is ridiculous she probably has no clue. Most people who dress poorly don't realize it and they think they look great. If enough kids tell her she looks trashy she might think twice unless she's training early to be in a rap video . . ?
I am always amazed at what people wear in public though regardless of age or gender. Nevertheless I do find it disturbing when a pre-teen child is wearing a tube top, mini skirt, strappy shoes and make up.

uh-huh....What has given everyone the right to be so judgmental on others? children are dressed by their parents form what is available and what is fashionable, what girls were wearing when any of you were at school would have been considered outrageous in earlier times.
How do you judge children in parts of Africa and some other 3rd world countries that are naked all the time? would they be classified in the same way?
