Even though I didn\'t really watch his show, this is pretty sad. After all, he was good person and was so young, had two young children, was married, and contributed so much to the whole world.

I have to say it wasn\'t that much of a surprise though. ANyone who picks up deadly poisonus snakes and says \"what a naughty boy\" when it tries to bite him was just asking for trouble.

Still it\'s always sad to see someone die so young and leave such young children behind

This is a sad day for Oz. As a Queenslander myself I can say it will lessen us all here and maybe the whole world. I loved the way he was. He was full of life and went 100% at everything. His personality was infectious. I and my whole family are deeply saddened by his passing. I send my deepest sympathies to his family and will remember his always with fondness for the smile he always brought to me.

Steve you will be deeply missed.

yep Steve will be missed, I figured a animal might get him but when he was like Marlin Perkins old((if you remember Wild Kingdom))..somehow its ironic he died like this..he handles and filmed the deadliest things on earth..crawled into snake dens..then a stingray stings him in the chest..whats the chances..1 in a million??..I have to imagine even after stung he was laughing about it..knowing how he was on camera..I think he was probably the craziest conservationist there was ((much of his appeal))....and really cared for animals first and foremost..I will say he lived and died on the edge with his work..he will be sorely missed.

\"I am standing merely inches away from the world\'s deadliest XXXX...\"

One bite from that thing and I\'d be a gonner.....

There\'s enough venom in that XXXX to kill a dozen guys like me....

Whoah, naughty boy! You don\'t really want to bite Steve-O do ya?.....

Interestingly, I have just read on a BBC site that the last recorded death from a stingray was in 1945...typical eh?

Rest in peace Steve....Thanks for all the entertainment.

There\'s only 3 recorded stingray related fatalities in Australian waters. This in itself lends a massive tragic twist to an already tragic tale.
This man lived for the animals he strived to preserve and the understanding he brought to the world. And for those of you who say he \"had it coming\" a big FUCK YOU.
Yeah thats right, up yours. This morning I had a severe falling out with someone who was narrow minded and stupid enough to go on about this in my presence. Incidentally it landed him on his arse, and quite rightly so in my opinion.
If anyone truly remembered anything about Steve,it was that his first and foremost credo with regard to handling any animal was to respect it.
Not only did he bring joy to millions worldwide and bring a wider perspective to the world, he made a name for his zoo which he worked damn hard at.
Think about his wife and his two children when you blatently disregard this mans life works and contributions next time. For his legacy and his family.
Sorry if this is a bit long winded, but it really pisses me off.

He\'s got young ones at home yet too, if I recall correctly.

He was incredibly entertaining, and his enthusiasm for wildlife was contagious.

Very tragic.

Incidently...he is the reason my kids say \'crikey\' every so often....

This is really sad, tragic news. My sons and I used to sit and watch his show together all of the time. He was highly entertaining, and we all learned something everytime we watched him. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family from our household....Rest in Piece Steve Irwin....

Yea, he reminds me of the kids that tease dogs, but they used to have sense enough to tease a dog behind a fence.

This is the guy that used his kid to tease up a croc, and got in trouble for disturbing the nesting animals in the Antartic while he was filming there.

How pissed off do you have to get a sting ray to have it whip that barb into your chest? I know the stingrays here will only strike if you step on them. Bets that he was holding it until the beast felt threatened?

I read about this on Fark of all places. I suppose he was more likely to be killed by a wild animal than I am, but it was still a freak accident involving a creature much less dangerous than his usual subjects. From the sounds of it he wasn\'t even messing with that stingray, it was just around and he startled it.

Apparently his wife is hiking in Africa and may not know yet. That seems extra sad.

I was so incredibly shocked about the news when I just heard it on the radio. The scariest thing, was for the first time in years, I watched him yesterday. And the next day he\'s dead. I used to think he was a joke, and now I feel really guilty. He has my greatest respect.

Really awful news... he was a great environmentalist, and he entertained millions of people. You\'ve got to feel for his wife and kids too :no: He was a great guy, and I\'ll miss him a lot.
