Was informed yesterday that my Sci Fi 'nerd' stasis had become common knowledge at work with the day shift, which I found a bit odd, as I worked nights and have be laid off for the last 6 months. To confirm which type of 'nerd' (it's geek thank you. I have a life.) a fellow asked me several questions like, which book series I read, movies that I like, and thing of that nature. But I fear that he forgot that question that quite possibly shall forever separate mankind from coming together as one.
So, I pose it to you.

Kirk or Piccard?

I would've said Picard if you ask me a few years ago...but after seeing the reboot, I'm going with Kirk!

But to be completely honest, Star Wars is WAAAAAAY better than Star Trek...

Pretty much what Vikey said.

The original series might well have been good at the time, but so were bronze weapons. Not that the Next Generation was fantastic, it was Star Trek. Episodic drivel. Encounter some gribbly space phenomena, get knackered by it, run around like numpties for a while, then have an "it all ended happily ever after" with some techno-babble. No season story arcs, or character development. The characters are their job, thassit. Still, when there's nowt else on...

Gimme Star Wars anyday. Even the ropey prequels.

WTF!??!

How is this even a close question? Kirk. Easy. Double axe handle, shoulder roll, drop kick.... c'mon guys!

I love the original series. The banter is very much like what I would expect from old friends who've served through wartime. I love it! Sure there was some crap, but come on! You guys are a bunch of Herberts!

I used to like Star Wars way more. Then Lucas killed my dreams. I can no longe worship the creator of lightsabers after I listened to the commentary tracks on the prequels and he repeatedly calls lightsabers "Lazerswords". C'mon dude! It just gets me. Like when my wife calls me by my brothers name when we're gettin' busy. It's just a mood wrecker.

Its a fundamental of geekness this argument... Who to choose... What to choose. Personally I love them all... Browncoats, STNG, Star Wars etc... making me choose which is more full of awesomeness is just too tough. So ill have to choose (drum roll please)... ALL! In their own way, each one of these changed the world for better. Thank the gods for that.

I'm the type of nerd who realised you spelled Picard incorrectly in the poll. Original series was before my time so looks laughable to me...even compared to the other Star Treks!

I'll judge the listed Captains based on their nemesis. You can tell the quality of a man based on his nemesis.

James Tiberius Kirk: Khan & Klingons
Jean Luc Picard: The Borg?
Malcom "Mal" Reynolds: Himself

I'm not saying who would kick whose but. I'm not evaluating based on who has the swankiest spacecraft. I'm evaluating on character depth. Malcolm has the greatest character depth out of all the captains. (and of course that is merely my opinion)

Picard? Please. An Englishman with a French name.
Do you know how he would've handled Khan? Do you?
He would've talked to him, perhaps shared their feelings over some Earl Grey, with Whoopie Goldberg giving sage (read Common Sense) advise in a bad hat, all the while Data is playing a saxophone or some rubbish, while Riker and Troi are casting googly eyes at each other, while Geordi was striking out at love again, while Worf was struggling not to kill somebody, while Dr. Crusher stands around looking hot, while Wesley annoyed everyone.
Somehow the holodeck or Q (or both) would be involved.
