Again, I'm liking what I see on both. That said, let me offer some helpful hints.
First, what Stew said. There's too much just gray. Very sharp zones of pure black, a few areas of white and close to white, and then some mid tones. It should probably be mostly black and gray with a few bright light areas. My advice would be to look at a whole lot if black and white art and try to notice some trends with what percentage is what color.
Now the witch elf, but I've also noticed this on a couple of ur other pieces. I'm sure it's mainly because it's just a WIP shot, but your shadows tend to get a little chaotic. Like the shading on her stomach. Frankly, you it would make sense to reduce about 95% of that shading. That same level of darkness should exist only around the contours of her clothing. Maybe a lighter shade near her belly button, but that is it. Women's skin takes VERY subtle shading. Next, you have the right idea with the shading on her inner thighs, but again the surface area of the shading is too much. Could be reduced by probably 50%. Again, I know it's a WIP so you probably were just blocking in colors, but just in case
on areas like skin , it's very important that our shades and highlights have clean edges. What I mean by this is the shadow zone should follow the contour of a muscle or dip in the flesh, etc. ....hmm this is tough to explain. Like on the legs. The edge of the shadow should not be a squiggly line, it should be a straight line that follows the shape of her thigh. Let's say I am shading a fist. The shadow in between my fingers should be relatively straight. The edge of the shadow should not spill out all over the finger chaotically.
I hope this makes sense. You have the right idea with the shape of the shadow on her shoulders, but again the area of shadow is too large, and the transition is too abrupt. PM me or respond here is any questions :$
