Ok have a look at the the orc shaman thread

Your construct's flesh could have more colour variation, if you have a colour wheel look at it. You will see blue and yellow either side of green, thats what I used to colour my orc. Blue in the shadows and yellow in the highlights, I did go all the way to black and white after building the previous glazes.

You can see how I have used glazes of different colours to make areas of the mini stand out, much lighter in the face than anywhere else. Just like the Massive voodoo tutorial.

Use your washes as glazes. Do it selectivley under the eyes and in the lower areas of the muscles for darker ones, build up the glazes layer on layer to change a colour. dont forget to wipe most of your paint off on a paper towel. this technique takes some time to get, but you will have a ureka moment once you have figured it out!

Naa not my channel, he just liked my google+ so I checked him out and saw he has some great videos. It's great to have people share so much! Im pretty sure he is South African, Im from New Zealand we talk even funnier.

Clearly you haven't visited South Carolina or New Orleans ;)

I worked on Lug a bit tonight and I'm not sure about it. Here it is so far.



Now, I'm not sure if I went too crazy with the brown lining around the leather pieces and armor. For the base fur I'm using P3 Menoth White Highlight and I started the deeper shadows with Model Color Iraqui sand thinned down to a glaze. I'm planning on using model color Ivory with maybe some pure white in it as the highest highlight for the fur. I'm not sure if I should take the deepest shadow darker or not.. I want him to be basically a polar bear and they are mostly like an ivory from the pics I have googled. After applying the shadow, I glazed over it with some of the base fur color again and I'm not sure if I need more layers of that either.. Any suggestions? I appreciate it!

You guys need to YouTube Geordies........Cheryl Cole sounds almost refined in comparison to some, and yes it's my accent as well.
And I'm heading back up there this weekend, so my accent will get a "Top up" while I'm there.

I'd not seen those figures before I might have to do some looking around.

You have done a great job with the glazed transitions of the white and tan. Black lining takes practice so stay with it, you will be able to get it thinner as you get better at it, just go over it a bit when you do the metal.

Remember we paint artistically so we can push reality. I think darken your tan/brown a bit and carefully push it into the black lining to ease the transition, also a little on the underside for shadows. Remember the top is going to be lighter so maybe darken the legs and feet a bit to push the views unconscious to the head. I would use a dark maroon red for his mouth rather than the black save the black for the lining. See the pic top is brighter lower down you get your tans and brown in the shadows. You could even put a little blue into the muzzle. Although polar bears have black lips, I would make them all slobbery and redish ready to tear into some flesh!

Update on Lug.. I decided on a different idea for his armor. This new way gave me a chance to work on my glazing skills. It's still got a lot to go, but I'm pretty happy with how the color turned out. What do you all think? Thanks.

Reds are nice, the black lines do disappear when you add the colour so it looks better in those areas. In this picture the white seems to light and might need a colder shadow, very lightly applied darker blue might work... In the red if you want to do more to it you could ad some more highlights with a pink/white that you later glaze over with some orange/red to harmonize it.

Keep up the good work.

Agree. A cool mini with a nice lacquered armor. Also agree with the white. Need to exand the broepwn you used out farther on the ody and take the current brown shadows even darker. Note how the under fur on the pict Canny posted above goes almost black.

Now i have to get this mini :D

Yeah i think that contrast is the key everywhere on this guy. The challenge with red of course is the highlight. Tough to not go too orange or pink. Try to ease the transitition a bit on the red shadow. Needs 2 more levels of red shadow.

Basically clean it up a bit and it's a remarkable red armor.

yep looking good there K. It's true black lining is starting to do its job now. The red shadows are pretty good, I dare you to put a purple glaze over the shadows too, it will change the tone of the red so its darker with out being black. Its tricky doing highlights in red. here is my tip get a golden yellow and mix a few drops in to your red and continue up until your happy with the highlight. I find the pink route quite hard even with a wash it is hard not to make it look too pink and loose the actual red armor effect.

For the scrapes on the armor fill them in black and highlight the lower side edge up to your hights armor highlight, it will make the scrape stand out. for edge highlighting pick where your light is coming from and spot edge highlight also. For the rivets a dab of 50/50 balck and purple wash on each one so it falls into the ring around the rivet, then highlight the rivets as you highlight the rest of the armor. This will make him look more dynamic.

I think the red stands out nicely metal might get lost, unless of course it's a gold or copper NMM :tongue:

More work done.. Added some purple shadows and darkened the fur shadows.. I'm not sure if I took it too far. I also started to highlight the red a little.
