@Khonner, the base looks good (beautiful color to the plinth). At the moment the orc seems too small and gets a little lost on the base.

Yeah, that was a surprise!
If you go to the image hosting site you can get the full picture (copied below). The base looks good. I like the stone road beneath him. I'd probably weather the column a little, use some pigments on it or you could probably manage with some washes.

Doing good but crazy busy, haven't been able to paint in over a year.
Frank caught me on Google chat and I thought I'd stop in and say hello - and add to the To Be Painted Someday stack of minis. lol! How have you been?Heya Krule! Yup - it rates right up there with Nessie on the rarity scale. And ya gotta be fast because, I'm perfecting the hit and run technique. lol!

Thanks Bailey! Yeah, I did but it kept sending me to my account when I tried to click on the photo. So thank you for posting! Are you guys seeing a slight texture developing? I've been formatting most of the day so my eyeballs are awful, but Frank has done wonderfully since I've been away, huge, huge improvements! And the first thing I noticed the paints are nice and thin! Yay Frank! Way to go!
But I'm wondering if you are overworking the paint, that's something that Jen Haley spotted with me. The paint was actually drying on my brush and starting to form it's "skin" on the mini just slightly and I was still trying to blend it.
Again it could be just my poor eyeballs right now. lol!
Using pigments on the columns will make 'em pop, I suggest darkening them especially in the recesses because they do dwarf the ogre, maybe even consider making them a little smaller? But I love the work you've done, the green flesh pops! He's gorgeous - for an ogre of course! And as always, take me with a grain of salt, I certainly don't mean to come in from outer space and pick your ogre apart. It's beautiful work, Frank!
Thanks for all the comments! I'm glad you stopped by Kathy and I will keep an eye on the drying paint on the brush. I have done some little tweaks with the columns and took a few bigger pics to see hopefully.. I tried a little battle damage with the shield and cleaned up a few spots on the guy too. C&C welcomed of course!

Oh yeah, that base is looking good. Darkening the columns totally brought them into the scene. The lines of shadow are a little bit stripy, though--you might put a very light wash of the same brown over the entire recessed areas of the pillars to make the transition smoother?
Otherwise, I think the base is spot-on. The foliage and bricks look great.

I agree with Sionid a wash over the columns of the shadow colour or something midway between it and the base colour will tie it together better.
I like the composition of the base. One thing that I find a little jarring is the way the paving/bricks look like they are floating on the grass. Too late to change it on this one but next time you use them I'd suggest laying them on a bed of milliputt and filling the gaps and around the edges with some fine sand and PVA glue to blend them into the scene better.

Very cool! Darkening those columns really helped. Didn't you say you grabbed some pigments? You can use those in addition with Sionid's suggestion of the wash to smooth and blend that out. (And the photos are perfect thank you! lol!)
Stew has an excellent point as well - but that got me thinking. Pigments are colored dirt, what if you mix some with brush-on matte sealer and using an old thrashed brush, apply under and in between the cobblestones? You can always test it first in a hard to see area like under one of the big columns and see if you like the result.

Thank you all for your comments.. I made some more progress with Pop-eye, I might add some moss to the rock plinth and the poly finish for the wood base for him is still drying.. I have also finished up the red handed orc as well, but I need to take some better pics of him and get him submitted for the WAMP contest. Let me know what you think.. I appreciate it!

Your finest piece, my friend. Not my kind if bust dude but you pulled it off and made it look pretty damn good. Especially those shadows on his back
