I have just bought K,O,H ,Directors Cut. What an awesome Film!!!!!
This is the version Sir Ridley Scott wanted to release until the boys with the Cheque Books got in the way . I got the 4 disc set for £ 23 from W.H.S.
Its a shame the people with the final say bully directors into cutting their movies, Peter Jackson had the same trouble. The SUITS veiw the movie going public as morons who cant cope with a movie over 3 hours, its a real shame !
GOD bless ..........VINCENTI

Nah ... they just have small bladders ;).

Concerning the movie. Overall, I found it pretty good (costumes, acting, geopolitics, ...) but there were some scenes that reminded me too much of Gladiator ... not that it\'s really a bad thing, I just think it could have really had a tone of its own.

money money money money

That\'s what it\'s all about.
If your movie is over 3 hours, you can\'t show as many movies in one day and thus can\'t sell as many tickets.

Used to be movies were longer even, but in those days there was intermission. Now people take the food into the theater with them and shuffle out asap so the next lot of ticket payers can shuffle in.

Dunno about KoH, but I watched Alexander directors cut last night and thought it was good, didn\'t see the original, but many said that it was crap.

Lesson is to make your own mind up I guess...

CONFESSION

I have to come out of the closet ...I to am one of the few people who enjoyed Alexander.
I have spent decades reading and studying military history & I found both films pretty accurate in capturing the spirit of the times and its people.
I know a lot of guys found the Bi-sexual content of Alexander tricky, but they were brought up in a society were that was a norm.
Likewise in K,o,H folks didnt like the pro Muslim slant, but yet again Saladin is one of the few people who comes out of all 6 crusades with any integrity!
( Our beloved Richard the Lionheart was pretty much a Psycho !)
I know what I would like to see ,El CID done properly .Put in his proper time period (1090s) & with some of his incredible battles shown !
GOD bless .............VINCENTI

I went to see the Fellowship at a small cinema in town and they actually had an intermission. Mind you, this is Eastbourne so it\'s officially referred to as a \"catheter-change and medication break\" ;)

Yes, I like this period of history as well, but Liam Neeson and his troop of merry men were for me superb, in K of H. Just sitting down now to watch the extended version.
A new version of El Cid would be a great one for me too, I just love epic battle scenes, and a good story line. I liked the original one also. I liked Gladiator as well, although I have not seen an extended version of this yet. I thought Alexander was OK, but I was not overawed by Troy though, but I think that was the bad acting :D

More of this type of film please:D
I always wait to watch these films from the comfort of my settee, with lots of volume and nibbles close by, so tea and toilet breaks are not a problemlol

The biggest problem I had with Troy was you ended the film feeling like the whole seige was over in about a week, not years later.

Well.......I\'ll always take Vincenti\'s advice on a film.........:D so bought the KOH directors cut.

How much more sense does it make now? Granted, the theatrical release was iffy, and can see why some my think it utter dross, but the directors cut was superb.

Nah.......you see he wasn\'t just a blacksmith; he had worked on seiges, was an engineer...........critical to believe in the character.

nice one Adie; this thread persuaded me!

I checked out Alexander from the library and even for free couldn\'t be bothered to watch the second disk.
The acting was horrible.
For a group brought up with bisexuality they seemed awfully obsessed with it.
The battle wasn\'t even coherently shot. (and there were elephants at Gaugamela. Where were the elephants? I wanted to see elephants!:flame: )

In the version I saw there were elephants..

Here\'s my rating system of recent historic epics (yeah right, historical :D )

Troy - A disgrace. Homer would blind himself again if he saw this movie.

Alexander - Definetly not worthy of the world\'s greatest conqueror, was still OK.

Kingdom of Heaven - Pretty good, a bit hard to sit through.

Gladiator - Awesome.

( Our beloved Richard the Lionheart was pretty much a Psycho !) plus by some of the accounts I\'ve read, spoke french 90% of the time, was a rampant and raping homosexual predator and quite possibly a cannibal as well. Although this is disputed as being possibly propaganda from one ofthe few surviving jewish defenders of Jerusalem.

YES Rodrigo Bovivar de Daiz was a mercenary fighting for both Muslim and Christian alike. Slightly different story from the hollywood history of Charleton Heston\'s image.
