It\'s rather difficult to post any real good feedback when the mini is in such an early stage. However, i think the skin looks great in the second picture, really rough and nice, much like a real horses skin. I like it alot, while it\'s a bit brighter on the first picture. Now, this is probobly due to the pics, so i would defintly aim for making it slightly darker if the skin looks more like the first picture irl. A bit more moody and with a lot more character. The ears looks nice...(hmm...resembles somthing completly diffrent than ears when you stare at them for a while...:redface: )
The shields looks a bit sloppy imho, you could try to clean them up a bit.

yeah I really like the skin of the horse... 
Looks very realistic and with great ambience. The shields look a bit harsh though... give it some glazes to smooth it out and try to keep the highlighting lines thinner. I think that the upper lining should be brighter then the lower one as well if you want to play with light a bit.

I agree with the others here. The horse\'s skin looks very nice in the second picture. If it looks like that in real life, then you\'re on to something. If it looks like in the first picture, try to make it look like in the second! About, the shields... Try to do the contour highlights using thinner lines with thinner paint (or with paint closer to the base coat in colour). Repeat the process many times but concentrate each layer more to the edges that face upwards (and make the paint lighter if you use less transparent paint). It\'s always better to do things in many small steps than in one large step because you have better control and can do things over and over until you think it\'s exactly the way you want it to be. If you paint one thick layer it\'s a bit of hit and miss.

I\'ll try to make both sides look the same, the only thing is that on the firs pic I used lightning on the camera and on the second one I didn\'t. thanks for the compliments about the skin I am relly pleased with it myself actually
the next time I post a pic I will have made the shields on the sides of the horse aswell... it was actually the first time I try swirly patterns... so that is a little hint of what is coming up... I will try making thinner highlights on the shields and put some glazes on them... I hope it will help

Mini painting and critiquing is not my strong point as such a beginner (only been painting three months!) but Horses ARE....!
The face of the horse is brilliant, very realistic, and the nostrils are good too, but the ears (no matter what else they may look like guys!) aren\'t quite right in my opinon... horses, even grey (white) horses, don\'t generally have skin showing in their ears- they\'re hairy!
My \'other\' hobby, is happy to demonstrate for you... this is my gorgeous horse Dolly showing off her ears just for you!
Dolly\'s nostrils are black, because she has black skin there, but if she had pink skin (like the little \'snip\' on her nose), then they\'d look much like your mini- and would be \'red\' rather than pink due to the inceased blood flow during exercise. Even if she had pink skin in her ears, you wouldn\'t see it- their ears are too hairy!

You\'re showing a lot of promise as a painter Larre, and improving all the time! Your highlights could be a little smoother perhaps, but the freehand is great and so is the skin (love the eyes too...). I can\'t offer muchc critique right now, but you certainly seem to to know what you\'re doing

nice going I especially like the horses skin it looks like on of those old oil paintings. However the are several point of critique I would like to point out.
1). The eyes on the horse should be almost completely black or dark brown etc. As generally you would not see the whites unless they are REALLY frantic somthing that the pose does not imply.
2). More and stronger, smoother higlights on the freehand. This may seem daunting but it does not really say freehand to me. A Judje needs to be able to notice the fine points and this with a bit of refining is definately a fine point.
3). Higlight the blue cloth more, personally I would have done this prior to the freehand but each to his own.
4). Blackline the edges of the raised bits like the straps dont worry take a dark brown/black and water it down till almost an ink the with small amounts on a brush apply the the cracks between straps etc. and cloth etc.
I do hope I do not sound too harsh but you wanted honest critisim.

you don\'t seem to harsh! I\'m glad to get honest and good critisism... after all, this mini is going into a comp, so I want it perfect!
I am not quite finished with the blue on the horse neck... but you ment all blue all over the mini!? IMO blue is one of the hardest colours to highlight. purple is also very hard
anyway, I will make it so that you only can see just a bit of the white in the eyes, if I don\'t it might look like I have forgotten to paint the eyes at all and that is not how I want it
black lining is also a good idea, it\'s right next on the list! and it\'s not too hard either...
next time I will update some pics I will add the rider to the horse.. probably not very much painted... but nontheless.

Like where this is going! It looks great so far. My fave part so far is the face - it\'s really superb! The freehand is coming along well also, you might consider adding a few thin layers on the fleur de lis to as there is some translucency (most noticably on the left one).
Looking forward to seeing more progress, especially on the rider!
