Hey guys/gals. I recently submitted my mini for the CMON 16 contest. I\'d really like to see what you think. Rate it if you want. No worries if you don\'t. I\'m merely wanting to get some critiques on it.

I love the base, it really fits the model nicely. The Greys, blacks and brown are great shades too. The armour looks awesome

For me personally, I find the purple and green too vibrant. I would have gone for a paler green and maybe a slightly browner purple.

That\'s just my opinion of course :)

I too love the setting, but I must disagree with Mooseh on the rest,
I think the glowing green, and the purple fit the mini just right, however to my eyes the black and brown seem somewhat flat and could do with more contrast between the highs and lows,
7 from me

honest critique mate, not putting you down just trying to help.

the belt has studs on it yet they aren\'t painted, this realy does stand out and make it look unfinished.
the belt could do with the highlights bringing out more and the groin protector bit could do with some darklining.
try darklining the straps on the shield as well so that they stand out a little more.

i\'ll leave the nmm to someone else as i hardly use it nowadays and they will be able to give better critique.

as for the base, it looks unfinished.
the flock on the floor is painted the same as the stone, it would have been far better if it has had some brown added to it to represent loose dirt.

the flags and tomb are too clean, if it\'s an ancient tomb it would be full of dust and grime.
use some thin green and brown washes around the bottom of it to help add the grime.
for dust, litteraly use dust (it\'s free!) or you can use pigment powders.

hope that helps. :)

Bugger Chris! You made me go back and have another longer look, and I\'m afraid I\'m gonna have to agree with you completely, sorry Helgar
I also noticed in the top pic the underside of the purple flowing robe is finished, and is only partially painted
down to a 5 now I\'m afraid

Thanks for looking at it and the critiques fellas. I really appreciate it and it did open my eyes on some of the things I missed unknowingly. I admit I did not finish on a few touch ups (underside of robe, gems on helm/armor and studs, etc.) Unfortunately I didn\'t get to finish those in time. I was down to the wire on the deadline. Was up till 1 AM last night working on uploading the pic and etc. it was that close. The base where the stones are really kicked my butt for some reason I spent all day and night trying to get it to look realistic. But every time it came out looking like a muddy floor or shiny. I eventually just said the hell with it and primed it and dry brushed it. Thanks again for the help though. Sometimes you don\'t realize the flaws on something you look at so long until someone points it out to you :)

Granddad!
know how you feel, done it enough times myself
fresh eyes make all the difference, that\'s why it\'s a good idea to post here in the forums and get the feedback before putting stuff in your gallery
keep trying and don\'t give up

if you want good stone effects, don\'t paint it grey and then dry brush.

start with white, use green, brown and yellow washes.
the black washes, bring in the depth to cracks etc to cretae enfasise.

once you are satisfied with it you can use stronger greens to enhance the grime, moss etc.

Wow thanks GP..I never even thought of doing that with green and yellow washes. I\'ll def keep that in mind on my next base I do with stones.

Thanks as well Mickc22.
