main thing i hate is whne i put a bunch of work on something and say it scores a 6... but later on i see something (sometimes same mini) that diserves a 3 or a 4 and is ranked same or better (altho now my score has risen from 5s and 4s to the mid 6s so im kinna happy)

I guess it doesn\'t truly matter to me anyway, as I haven\'t posted any of mine for like a year. I know I would never score better than a 6 or 7 for a few reasons.
1. I don\'t have any space marines or nekkid girls.
2. I would rather keep my miniatures at a \"better than tabletop\" quality. If I had them perched on a 6\' tall, $100.00 mini mountain like some, I would never be able to use them for play.
3. While I love to look at the best miniatures, I hate making previously mentioned bases.
Oh yeah, and somebody please stop that guy that makes those gross play-doh fairies for eBay.

I only have 1 space marine and thats the inqistitor one, and truth be told I am not a big fan of sm\'s. Yes there are some incredible sm\'s but for the most part they are all the same.

Just because you don\'t paint sm\'s, nekkid girls or mount your mini\'s on elaborate bases does not mean that you can\'t get good score\'s. While I do like the elaborate bases, they are at times impractical. If I am painting something for play I do not put it on a big old fancy base. I also look at my scores as a way to improve my painting skills. I value the comments made even if I may think them a little harsh.

While my highest rated mini admittedly includes space marines:
Epic Space Hulk

It\'s the delivery that makes them cool (that or my fridge counts as a custom base)

My second-best is neither naked, nor a space marine, but is female:
Miss Bea Haven
And again, I think the score is for the uniqueness and not some formula. I hate formulae. I will never submit to any codex!

And lest you think I don\'t have pieces for gaming, I also have done fairly well with my high elf spearmen, and they are the old type spearmen to boot:
Dead Head High Elves

so basically, good scores are there for things that don\'t fit the mold. I think score tends to reflect 1-creativity and 2-time spent. I don\'t think I\'ll ever have a 9 because I won\'t spend that much time on it.

Bear,

That person, who happens to be a very nice woman in a battle against cancer, has every right to create and sell any darn thing she wants. Just because you don\'t like it doesn\'t give you the right to criticize when she didn\'t ask for feedback. If you\'ve got feedback, send it to her in a PM instead of criticizing it in the forums. \'Nuff said.

She does indeed happen to be a very nice lady, but even if the fairies were by someone brutish and belligerent, BME for instance, I\'d still say an apology is in order :(. It doesn\'t mean you have to like the fairies, just don\'t trash another person\'s work behind their back.

I\'m annoyed at this comment.

Nailpainter2003 is a friend to many people on this site. She has sufferred a great deal of ill health in her life and is trying to deal with a serious Heart Condition which has already claimed the life of her brother.
I count Faye as a personal friend and am proud to say I own a set of those Faries, as do several other members of CMON.

If you don\'t like them, well then that\'s your priviledge, but do not slag someone off on the forums just because you don\'t like their work. Keep it polite.

If in doubt, read the forums rules. There are only 3.

Getting back to the rating game...
I have no 40k minis whatsoever in my gallery or anywhere else. I don\'t paint them. I\'m a fantasy kind of girl.
As for naked ladies, I don\'t have any in my gallery...oh wait, I take that back. I have one in my gallery; my Fomorian Siren from i-Kore. Not my highest scorer by the way.
I remember getting 6\'s and how happy I was when I got my first 7, and how ecstatic I was when I got my first 8. Imagine how I felt a couple years and some long hours of painting later, when I finally got a mini in the top last 7 days at a 9.1 with 23 votes and after 2 more votes it was at an 8.7. Hmmm...did I complain? Yes, to my husband. Not here though. After years of seeing this happen to everyone else...c\'est la vie! Yeah I was pissed off, but what the hell. :bouncy:

I don\'t really care about the ratings, but looking back, I haven\'t improved much if the ratings are any indicator ;) About 2 years ago I painted an Eversor Assassin. It was the peak of my skill. It was also the first mini I have ever posted on CMON. He had a 5.4 when I deleted him; that was about a year ago.
Let\'s have a look now: Ardokath is 6.1, my latest Persecutor is 6.2 - I have a noted improvement of let\'s say 0.8 points over a period of, well, counting from the paintjob 2 years, counting from the CMON rating 1 year.

I forgot where I was going with this as my mother came in and told me how stupid I was for about 30 minutes, and I have already forgotten what I wanted to say :D

Bear has every right to criticise anything he wants on this site! Especially the miniatures!!!! To be fair, it was an off hand comment not a direct attack on anyone....

Cancer or not, those things scare the shit out of me every time I see them.....:innocent:

Everyone should remember the title of this thread before they go getting upset by peoples comments!

And I agree with Mr Munkie there too. What the hell has someones personal health got to do with whether or not people like their work?

Carry on as you were :D

I never give a good mark to a truly shitty miniature. Except \"Left Talon of Roc\" of course, that one is just plain misunderstood.
You prove your own point right there.
And LTR (here) was not a \"joke.\"
Well, since this thread has already gone off-topic, I just have to say that whenever someone posts a link to the almighty Roc I laugh until tears run down my face.
Vincegamer, please don\'t ever take this mini down lol

True that everyone should be able to voice their opinions. But I think there is a difference between voicing an opinion and being rude or inpolite, as stated in the forum rules. I would also have felt really sad for that comment, but not as sad if someone said. \"I don\'t like Svens work\"

You put stuff on public display, you have to be prepared to take the ups and the downs!!

And the comment wasn\'t really a personal attack now, was it?

\"That Spacemunkie is a proper cock. And he paints shit minis!\" That\'s an insult!

Hang on.... It\'s not far off actually:D:moon:

Personally I thought the play-doh fairies line was funny... until I realised from the comments that it referred to another member. As a general netiquette rule praise can be left anywhere you feel like but negative comments should be confined to specific requests for feedback out of common courtesy.

This is statistically significant so I can understand you being ticked off. This amounts to a voting difference of 9, which could be a 5 and 4 which seem suspiciously harsh from two people in a row, but it could just as easily have been 8 and 1 or 7 and 2 and in these cases the low score seems <cough> a little suspect.
