I\'m not sure I buy into the \"everything is art\" school of thought. Some things are just without taste in my opinion. \"Art\" that is created simply to evoke a controversial (see distasteful) reaction is not too much more impressive than the trolls we so often find in the forums.
That said, the concept of a 1:1 \'mini\' was not lost on me and I thought that was a fun idea.

Damn now that is one awesome Jumbo mini I love museums specially with this kinda stuff (not big on looking at stuffed animals in glass gases) one of the benefits of living near D.C. is having access to the smithsonian, air and space and a whole lot of other good museums. I\'ve seen tons of pics of ww2 armor thats at aberdeen proving ground here in MD I need to find out if thats open to the public or not I\'d love to get to see their collection in person.
Personally I think the rape one is a good one to show. Yes it is macabre, but not asinine.
To me the exhibition is portraying modern lifestyles (in Western civilisation anyway) plastic products which are used once and thrown away the next day.
Each kit resembles some aspect of popular culture, music, religion, art etc... with the raped woman (IMO) being the media.
[The media] Quick to take something disastrous and turn it into a money spinner, each story a throwaway success. No feeling just another headline.
Banksy did a good painting of news reporters blocking paramedics from getting to a child which had been in an earthquake or something similar. Also reminds me of the photographer who took the photo of the starving child.
And I notice he did an Artist, quite ironic i feel. And show whoever did the exhibition knows what he is doing and recognising his art for what it is. Another throwaway success in plastic culture.

The artist is david Cerny is a Czech born artist much whos art revolves around protest. Hes famous for the pink T-34 which gracesBermondsey, London, at the corner of Mandela Way and Pages Walk ro protest the soviet occupation of Czech republic after WW2

It makes sense on some levels and I can see the artist saying something very similar. And if he is indeed using a rape/murder victim as a symbol for the media and what not in a consumerist throw away culture it doesn\'t make the use of a victim of some of the most heinous crimes a person can do to another any less crass, insensitive, or innapropriate. Perhaps it\'s knowing and carring for people who have suffered similarly that skewes my view on that but personally it seems like a shortcut past true creativity and originality and pandering to a base shock tactic a vulgar attempt at seeming artsy & intelectual. The pink t-34 is much an example of this same shortcut, instead of sculpting a moving mural or statue to commemorate the victims of soviet occupation and covey real emotion thru art to voice protest against it he paints a broken down tank pink and hits it with some graphitti. Just seems like cheap attempts at art.
Tho I am a picky asshole about art lol and maybe personal expierence has skewed me wrongfully concerning this fellas work.
But regardless I respect your view on it matty, and seeing as you had some sincere thought provoked by his work then maybe that can redeem my opinion and acknowledge the artistic merit that may lie in this fellow just that I\'m unable to see it.

Heh, f\'in git, I\'d say. Artist my arse. Why not colour a soup can or take a picture crying at the dump? Lame wanna be famous artists are worse than reality TV people. So high on their vision and talent, which are both lacking, IMO. I didn\'t get the plastic disposability angle from the work and I don\'t now, nor will I later. But I\'m old and cranky like that.
Sorry Matty, but I\'m not truely convinced on this.
Ok if he wanted to show how the media uses and discards victims, why use the \"image\" of a raped woman? Why not a raped man? or a knife victim?
In my opinion depicting females as a victim is almost as contemptuous as the \"Media\'s\" attitude.
In think the fact the u guys all start discussing about that raped woman plastic set shows that he made his point quite clear.
If it was a stabbed man or some other crime no one would start discussing. And thats the artist\'s purpose on that exhibition. Getting poeple to think.
So art is not always FUN or BEAUTIFUL! Thank god!!!!

The only thing I don\'t get in modern art are all those abstract colour orgasms on canvas...WTF is that for?

I hate arty farty stuff at the best of times and this is no exception, why do otherwise unemployable people resort to shock tactics when it comes to otherwise usless and pointless crap like this.
