HEEEELP!!

As usual Finn asks the right question to get people going!

BUT

As a newbie (and as Freakinacage asks) - HOW???

Is there a basic tutorial for CMON?

I would like to know how to:

1. put a quote from another post into my message - is it just cut and paste?

2. use smilies - (i looked at the FAQ\'s - didn\'t help

3. put a personal quote on all my posts (eg Flashman\'s Phillip K Dick quote)

4. add a link

5. post a picture

6. what BBCode is all about (should I care?)

So many questions - so little time

I may be in the running for the oldest on the site (read old fart here) but I\'m a complete novice at using the facilities on offer. So much so that I have had to type this in twice as I previewed the post and then hit the back button to edit it and lost the lot

HELP (part 2)

I just read my post and it has a smilie - where did that come from - do I already have the answer to question 2? - you type in the code revealed by hovering over the smilie - right.

Experiential learning in action - wow

I\'ll try again lol

Ok, to answer a couple of your questions -

1. Just press the quote button you will find displayed at the top of the entry you want to quote.

2. You can also click the Smiley in question :] and it will be put into the field where your cursor is.

3. When you first log onto the forums, there is a line that says \"User control Panel\" Click that, then click edit profile, then scroll to the bottom of the page and there you will find a box for your quote - put it in and press the Edit profile button at the bottom and you should start seing your quote from there on out.

As for 4,5, and six - I will let others handle those Questions, since I haven\' t posted anything in a while and struggle with it everytime I do.

lol

PS - Just realized that this makes 200 for me - most on the General Discussion forum. WHOOP!!!

I know the answers to some, but not all...

A. Either click on the \'quote\' button above the other person\'s post and add your comments. (This will give you their whole message). I always edit out the unnecessary bits just to make the message clearer. Just be sure not to edit out the \'quote\' commands at the beginning and end.
Otherwise it is just cut and paste. If the thread is relatively short, you can scroll down when typing your reply and access previous posts this way.

2. use smilies - (i looked at the FAQ\'s - didn\'t help

A. When you are entering your reply, there should be a menu of smiley\'s to the right of the text box. Just click on what you want.

3. put a personal quote on all my posts (eg Flashman\'s Phillip K Dick quote)

A. I don\'t know the answer to this one. Someone else will chip in though, I am sure.

4. add a link

A. There are probably a lot of ways of doing this. I just open the page I want to link into - cut and paste the URL from the top of the screen into my post.
Some people seem to be able to change the long winded http.......garbage into a single word. This really impresses me, but I don\'t know how to do it.

5. post a picture

A. Don\'t know yet, but the guidelines seem fairly simple.

6. what BBCode is all about (should I care?)

A. God knows..BB= bulletin board?

Perhaps others will enlighten us old fartslol

I am glad I am not the only one who didn\'t know all the answers. We must have been posting our replies at exactly the same time \'cos your response wasn\'t there when I replied. Sorry if I duplicated some info.:flip:

Location - Cornwall

Hi! Finn - where can you buy \"stuff\" in Cornwall???
We\'ve (the family that is) taken our holidays in Boscastle almost every year since King Arthur was in residence:cool:
I usually get a pit stop in Exeter on the way down and go to GW and Crackers for a look see but would love to bore the missis with a trip to a halfway decent model shop during the holiday itself.

(she\'s just seen this and was not amused - don\'t know why)lol

PS It takes one to know one - teacher that is - I\'m in FElol

I have to confess here that I buy almost all my \'stuff\' on the internet either from traders or from eBay. I live near St Austell and there is a shop there called \'Mad for Miniatures\' but it doesn\'t carry a very big range. A young lad runs it and I go in there to buy things occasionally, but almost out of a sense of duty.
Truro has a GW shop, whoopee! That is about it I am afraid.

For the last three years I have purchased almost solely on the net. If there is anything specific you wanted to look at,or were interested in let me know. I will almost certainly have a link.

Also feel free to email me on steveapted@aol.com if there is anything specific you wanted to know.

What about Cardiff Game/Trading Post?

Freakinacage, you missed the humble Trading Post/Cardiff Game in Duke Street Arcade! There\'s a few odds and sods in there, collectibles, RPG\'s, miniatures and everything else! they also carry the excellent Miniature Paints brand which have a great colour range

Whoopee indeed, and I used to work there, but I\'m OK now.:D

Plymouth is about the closest place to find anything halfway decent, but Antics is about the best place and even there it\'s a bit....crap! Rely on Mr Postman or the Internet and you can\'t go far wrong.

I find that the odd trip to Tokyo soothes my modelling urges. Bit expensive to get there, but the shops! THE SHOPS!!!

Oh well the Mrs will be relieved.

It will just be a beach/touring holiday as usual relieved by the annual indulgence in Hick\'s Special lollollol:flip::|~

If you guys ever get over to Norwich....

There is a great little games store called \"The Games Room\" on Elm Hill. They stock Reaper, some Ral Partha, Heroclixs/ mageknight, some historicals, Mithril miniatures, as well as a good line in RPGs. They also had a giant Monty Python Vorpal Rabbit plush toy from the Holy Grail film _ I almost bought him!!!

If you\'re ever in the area I\'d recommend checking it out! :]

The only thing they don\'t stock is GW. But there is also a GW store here in Norwich as well. :D (unfortunately for me as I seem to spend quite a lot of money in there sometimes)

Regards

Kat
