Hi folks,

Here's the latest progress:

Should I still add horns to the neck, or do you think it's okay for me to start priming this guy? Looks like a bit of refining needs to be done for the parts where the spines meet the neck.

Cheers!

Many thanks, freakinacage. :)

I'm coming to a bit of a dilemma: Making horns. The dragon has little horns here and there and I think it would be weird if his neck had none. My initial idea is to take some old Gundam sprues and "carve" the horns to more or less the desired sharpness then cut them off and glue them to the mini. The epoxyclay I'm using is a little too hard to make small shapes although I'll try that route too. Suggestions would be great.

Cheers!

Oh man I loved mage knights! I had so many, including the "Polar Ice Dragon" no idea what happened to them. Nice work so far!

Hello again folks,

I've made a little more progress on the horns. Seems like the old Gundam sprues did the trick. I sharpened one end with a hobby knife, then smoothed it with a bit of sandpaper, cut off a bit and glued it to the neck.

Here are a few pictures with the horns on the neck:

Methinks I'm ready to prime tomorrow morning. :)

This looks very good and I think you did a great job with the scales. You also gave me an idea as a sculptor to try using straws, thanks so much!

Thanks, and you're welcome. I initially used straws to make the scales, but I found that scribing them one by one was more effective, but painful on my hands. :)

Well done Delta, I think that's turned out really well. I'm glad you were prepared to dive in & have a go at the scales again after backing away the first time & going with the armour, it's paid off :good:

Cheers, B.

You're right about that, BPI. At the moment, the dragon is taking a quick bath. After she's dry, I'll prime her and post pics. Oh, I forgot to mention that this project is a commission.

Ah, what colors to use... Perhaps a dark, almost purple skin with bluish highlights for the scales and a kind of golden yellow color for the belly scales, spines and horns?

Cheers!

I forgot to take pics of her primed and I got carried away and base coated the skin and fleshy areas in the mouth but I'll have some pics up later this week. My camera needs charging now... T_T

Hi CMoN! I finally found time to post pictures of the MK dragon. Here she is after a base coat of GW Chaos Black and GW Leviathan Purple Wash.

I hope you all like it. Any suggestions on the skin and horn/spine colors are welcome.

Cheers!

Hello everyone!

Here's a quick update on the dragon. Her spines and the large scales [scutes?] have been hit with a coat of GW Snakebite Leather. A bit of GW Chaos Black was mixed with the Snakebite Leather and thinned slightly so it could be painted into the deeper areas of the large scales. The body horns have been painted Chaos Black as well.

The legs aren't painted yet because I need something to hold on to while I paint her. :) Comments and criticisms are welcome.

Cheers!
