Mahud King

Hello once again everyone in CMON land. Got the pictures all ready for my Mahud King.

I was very happy to receive an Honorable Mention for this piece at GDLA 2008. The Golden Demon was extremely tough this year and it was a privilege to compete among such painters.

I had a handful of LOTR models to consider painting for the competition, but none seemed unique enough. I like to paint models that are not very popular, so I figured I\'d toss some paint on this Mahud King. Don\'t see many of the bad guys these days anyway

The face was not cast very well so I had to resculpt parts of it. I gave him new eyes and lips. I also clipped off the tab on his back and used green stuff to smooth it out, as I did not want to put the banner on (I dislike large back-banners. Who\'s gonna want to carry that on their back anyway?) lol

When I painted the face make-up I wanted it to look like it was rubbing off, like the Joker in the new Batman flick. I think it turned out ok, but I would have liked doing it on a larger scale face. This one\'s too tiny!

Love the reds, and excellent job all round, but the make up doesn\'t look as if it\'s rubbing off. Still gave him a ten, and he most certainly deserved a trophy.

Not a big fan of the model but your texture work on the fabrics is spot on

I am most intrigued by the purple cloth on the front. It really looks like some heavy linen material. How did you achieve the effect?

I really like it - mainly because it\'s a very nice change from the usual LOTR entries you get at Golden Demon. It certainly deserved it\'s Honorable Mention, and it must have been a very good field for it not to place up there.

Only thing I\'d say is that I\'m sure I saw somw slightly different (WIP?) pics of this, and you could really see the detail in the cloak thing he was wearing - beautiful stuff there!

great work as always matt i personally dont like the mini but the paintjob is amazing, i like how you have painted the purple cloth :beer:
