Marble and chess bases?

Hello
I have been lurking the forum for some time, now this is my first post.

I am currently working on a set of chess figurines, consisting of Confrontation miniatures. I don\'t play Confrontation, but the miniatures are so beautiful, that i just had to put them to use.

Now my problem is that i don\'t really know how to style the bases. First i wanted to just leave the bases of the white figurines white and the bases of the black figurines black.
While this may help distinguish the black and white more easily, it looks a bit booring.

I think that a kind of marble-styled base might look good i am a bit at a loss how to paint marble.

I would love to hear your opinions on the problem.

Regards,
Digamma

Hello, good evening and welcome...

Sounds like a great idea. I have been considering this for a long time as I have knocked up some large stained-glass chessboards and wanted to create a really nice set to use with it. One day, one day...lol

Try here:

It\'s a start:flip:

Usually to paint marble, I ust use a piece of ripped up blister foam. It gives the mottled look, but obviously you must do this before you paint the figure or paint it seperatly. Then you just need to go back and add the veins into the marble, which can be done easily with any brush. You might even want to flick some paint off of your brush for a few small dots. Hope this helps!

Hey there, Laszlo (one of the best painters around) has a tutorial on doing marble on his site.

Laszlo\\\'s Marble Tutorial

This link leads into oblivion I am afraid. Pretty much like the Dark-age site I queried on another thread:(

Well I still get the same\'lame-delegated\' site notice.

Chrispy, post up your link and I will try that. Shouldn\'t make any difference, but you never know:idea:

Okay Finn:

http://hot-lead.org/advance/texturing_marble.htm

If it still doesn\'t work, I can always copy and paste the text and send you all the photos! :p

But basically, it\'s exactly what I said to do with the sponges, he just wants you to use glossy paint..

Thanks Chrispy, but still no joy

As you say, must be our gas-powered Brit servers as I still get the \'lame delegated\' site posting.
Not to worry. It wasn\'t me that wanted to paint marble anyway.
Hopefully Digamma has access to one of your more up-to-date serverslol

Yes, but if the hamster system fails we must use the N.O. P.O.W.U.H. System:

Presently

Hot Lead is Gone!!!...

...NOT!.

Although, it certainly was a scare. I am also doing some marble bases, and when I checked Laszlo\'s site last saturday, all I got was the \"lame delegated\" page.

Yesterday, I tried again and presto!, the Hot Lead site loaded without problems.

Just to be on the safe side, I downloaded the pages about texturing to my hard drive, and will make cd backups of it. Contact me if you still have problems accesing the site, and I\'ll e-mail you the files, as long as Lazlo is OK with it. I respect his effort and wouldn\'t want to upset him in any way.

Thanks for the kind offer....

I am still getting the \'lame delegated site\'. I will give it a few days and re-check. Hopefully it will be back, if not I may well take up your kind offers:D
