where you win awards and you can find pictures of your mini in mags and online
Extremely high quailty as shown in the top 50 on Cmon.
Where the painters are more than happy to share there knowledge and advice.

Sorry for my bad reply but it\'s in the eyes of the beholder really. You might find a some acceptable answer to it.. like the painters that most agree to being the best. Which often includes winning trophies, having painting classes.. spread their painting ethos and such. For me it\'s about having produced top of the shelf work over a period of time.

)about being in the top 50 i am not agree with that opinion.. a lot of people that is not in cmon are masters..bill horan, mike blank, matt parkes, gianfranco speranza, a lot of historical painters and some of the fantasy ones..
and in other way.. bein in the top 50 seems to be good but not a master.. teher are a lot of painters taht are so much better than me and the ya so far from me in the top ..and others that are good but no more that have a very good ranking.,..and maybe those painters taht ares o well averaged.they dont know nothing about composition, colour theory, ambiance, structure of the scene, thecnics..tc etc etc etce.... and they have a very good rate only cause they paint so coloured or so brightly and that is what cmon community likes.. but that is not to be a master.. raul garcia latorre, jacques alexandre gillois should be in the top 3 considering their skills , talent and abilities and for example me i am near to raul (adso2) and in a better position than jaquesalexandre. and i am a little piece of shit comparing myself with those genious.. so.. cmon doesnt means more that that people like your minis.. or ..better the pics of your minis.. a lot of people using photoshop achiebve a very good ratings.. I am not afraid to tell it cause i dont do that but several of the great peinters of thsi site , they always do..and it is an evidence.. so what are we judging? the skills talent, creativitu, originality, ability to express feelings? or only the impact to the eyes of the wiever.. in that case..to be a master is easy.. paint a nmm model and retouch it with photoshop.. easy.

I\'d say that it is a painter who has a very firm grasp of advanced technique and colour theory as well as other obvious points like composition and light... pretty much like any other area of the visual arts really...
I agree with Banshee in that being a top 50 cmon painter, or any other rank for that matter, is not an absolute indication of who is truly better than who... It might be the case if all minis were judged by the same panel of people using a defined set of guidlines but never by just a random selection of viewers with different voting preferences... and dare I say it... the fanboy factor too
There are some incredibly talented painters on cmon and while a lot are in the top 50, there\'s also lots who aren\'t...

As for photoshop. Don\'t think many people do that even if it does happen. Maybe some fix a detail or two.. I don\'t know. But minis not showing up as they do IRL is more a matter of lighting conditions and that most cameras can\'t pick up transitions and uneven places visible to the naked eye.

): Yeah I agree.. the top historical painters are the best 54mm out there. But they have been in the game for a while as well..Not sure this is exactly fair - I still maintain that Martin Footitt is possibly the best miniature painter in the world, and that my old mentor Mike Anderson is right up there with the Jaques Alexandres and Jérémie Bonamonts of this hobby. Dont be fooled by the \'masterclasses\' - most are done by the white dwarf guys and not the studio at all!
However, that does not stop that \'masterclass\' being tabletop quality!

I think Martin Footitt is so undervalued.. and hardly ever mentioned among the best painters. His 2nd place in Open is the most wellpainted mini I\'ve seen so far.. ever. I had my chin on the floor and can\'t possible figure out how he did those metals. Pictures doesn\'t do it justice.
The UK trip I did was a relevation in the way that i now know that the Eavy metal team consists of some of the best 28mm fantasy painters around.
I don\'t think Greenone was refering to EM team.. but rather that those specific guides aren\'t painted by \"masterclass\" painters. right?
But take a look at this nightbringer tutorial for example. Pretty nice NMM, right?
