That may be a good idea. It seems like a lot of people have enjoyed this thread, and it was kind of a spare of the moment thing that I just thought of doing 5 minutes before I began painting. If I do it just for the tank, I can get a photography area set up beforehand and get every stage photographed. Sound good?

I\'ll probably start it around 9 or 10am on Saturday morning. I think it was starting it the middle of the night that burned me out this time around. With it just being a single tank, I should still be able to get it done in the same day even if I start it late morning.

The tank is already converted and sprayed up. It\'s a SoB Immolator with lots of purity seals and Forgeworld Brass Etched bits

You could even turn such a thread into a step-by-step article.
Never a bad thing to post articles.

I\'ve never painted a vehicle, and don\'t really know what\'s involved with doing one. So yes, I really would like to see how one goes about doing vehicles.

Handprint is probably the best source on practical colour theory you\'ll find anywhere so I\'d certainly recommend starting with it... so you don\'t have to un-learn too much bogus info like I did

You might take a while to get through the applicable parts of the site (here\'s the sitemap to give an idea of what\'s involved) so let me highlight one important thing: visual complements are not automatically mixing complements. This is a very important principle in paint that the site proves in greater detail than anywhere else I\'m aware of.

Here\'s a pic of the tank I\'ll be doing on Saturday. Still haven\'t decided on what colours are going to go where , but it\'ll be red and metal. I\'ll probably use blue on the weapons to match the sisters.
I\'ll hopefully break out the weathering powders in the later stages and muddy it up a bit. Maybe even a bit of freehand if there\'s time and I can think of something to do for it

Ok, time to kick things off. I\'ll be using the stuff below (ok, more paints than that, they\'re just there to show what ranges I am using). I really should replace my Winsors, they\'re getting fairly old and busted, but they should be fine for this.

Is it just me, or did the forums just go down for like 3 hours??

Ok, well here\'s an uber update to make up for it.

First pic - I have given the whole model a coat of boltgun metal, leaving black in the recesses. I have then used a watered down brown wash around the recesses. I followed this up with a watered down wash of Smokey ink on the bottom edges of panels, where panels meet, below places where dirt would accumulate etc

Next pic - Metal highlighted by stippling on chainmail followed by Mithril Silver onto the raised areas. This is followed by using heavily watered down mixes of smokey ink and brown ink, smokey ink and purple ink. These washes are used in patches to give a feeling of built up grime and dirt. I\'ve also basecoated the red areas Red Gore.

Next - More basecoating. Base coated the guns regal blue, the purity seals with graveyard earth and the gold with brass. The red needs a second coat as it is a bit patchy

I\'ve highlighted the red with blood red, then blood red mixed with bronzed flesh. Next I\'m going to have to use a few wash coats on the red to mucky it up a bit - it looks far too clean and neat next to the grubby metals.

I\'ve also given the headlights a coat of white to form an undercoat for the yellow

It\'s not massively evident from this pic, but I\'ve used some wash coats on the red to tone down its brightness and mucky it up. I\'ve also highlighted the guns with a mix of regal and enchanted blue, adding lightning bolt blue for the final highlight. I\'ve also put the first yellow coat on the headlights.

Can anyone think what colour to do the wax part of the purity seals. Normally I do this red, but this time they are on a red surface. I was thinking of a deep purple, but I\' not sure if that would look right or not.

Just finished up the purity seals, I went with the purple and it looks decent enough.

@DrEvilmonki - Cheers, I\'m pretty happy with it too. There\'s actually not that much major work left to do. Once again I\'m surprised at how fast I\'ve got those coats done.

Highlights and shading of gold
Paint blast shield, silver?
Finish headlights
Paint the glass bits around the top hatches, colour?
Tidy up gunner and turret interior
Freehand eagle on front panel?
Mud around bottom edges - weathering powders

Cheers NSA, it would be great if I could take a decent photo of it though. I guess I haven\'t really been trying since they have all been WIP pics, but they are all badly lit, dodgy angles etc lol

Just re-fuelled with a couple of Bacon butties and Daddies sauce, tasty . So I\'m gonna see if I can get it finished off now. Gonna do the gold first
