soo,
- skincolor glazed on them like 10B suggested, it made them more subtle, like it a lot.
- despite what I wrote about, I added a lot of smaller freckles where it's expected more (cheecks, bridge of nose)
- painted in the eyebrows... it looks ok, but nothing special. Also it looks like the color decided for the hair (the one I already used on the smogrider figure) will look good (basically following this recipe: http://smogriders.com/guides/kitty-reimer/kitty-reimer-level-up/?lang=en )

now on to the clothes as I think I'll leave the hair last

You're going really well Max! *applause* Can't wait to see what you do with her clothes. I just love watching minis come to life. :)

Hey Maxx! I like those randomly placed freckles. I'm sure that they will look really natural now that you glazed them down.

I've got freckles on my face, during winter and autumn they are more subtle but if I got some sun exposition they go darker and darker. On their location: almost none on the forehead (some here and there) and lots more on the lower part of the face (from nose and down to the chin) most of them on the cheeks.

At the moment what I prefer of your paintwork are the eyes on her, really nice and shiny. Wishing to see more pics, but I'm pretty sure I would prefer your work than that of the art-box. ;)

Nice work Maxx , the bust is looking amazing I really like the alabaster skin in the earlier shots and with the red hair really suited her , very subtle contrast suits the lighter skin tones of a red head..

Some progress

- metalwork (still not final, just general lighting)
- leatherwork (mostly final)
- green cloth looking good for me
- the changes on the skin, eyebrows have the color that the hair will have. Sadly the phone (because of the flash) didn't pick up the small new freckles... there is a LOT more around the nose that's visible on the pic.

todo:
- arms
- whiteish part... there is a lot of decorative details that will have to be picked out after the general highlighting
- all the stiching... there is a LOT
- shield with pattern
- rust and similar effects on the metals.

today I was visiting the "Inspiration modellbau" event in Mainz. Took some (shitty) pictures. Also met with a few people I know from Pnp and one of them (Andreas) had a painted shieldmaiden there, this one: http://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/7920

Now (after seeing Bailey03's shield freehand and Andreas' version) I'm less than motivated to continue on my piece...

I also loved this one there: http://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/7364 (... now if I have the nerve to start painting my piece.... not likely)

NO! I really like your auburn (more celtic) shield maiden. Andreas clearly has mad skills (that mermaid is especially stunning!), but I don't see why that should make you want to give up - hell, I'd never get anything done if I got too intimidated by other people's work. And yes your's is included!

+1 to what Archarad is saying.
Your version has lots more of personality and has a really nice colour selection. Follow your own path, it is nice and worth!

I see what you mean about the dark. Still, your pictures came out pretty well. The whole event looks bigger than our biggest national con!

Some great modeling - especially the ships and the submarine in dry dock. Lego display is also very cool.

I hope you had fun. :)

some progress with the shield...

so as I'm very weak with freehands I had to chose a pattern, that's much simpler than the official one or the one Baileyö3 paints.

I chose this pic from the net:
View attachment 42027

and managed to do this:
View attachment 42028

how it was done:
- I took the painted wooden shield
- added a layer of varnish to protect the paintjob so far
- added a LOT of chipping medium
- simple red gradiation (had to be careful as a lot of water activates the chipping medium)
- pattern added with SkyGrey. shaded with a little black, highlighted with white
- after drying fun times: with a lot of water and a soft brush begin tearing up and removing bits from the paint. I feared this step the most, but the result looks ok to me.

The question is: should I chip it some more and when yes where?

If all is ok:
- varnish it again
- highlight some of the woodgrain as that was lost when it got the color.
- rust / darken and highlight the metal some more

Hi Maxx,

Looks very good already. If you want to take it to an even higher level you can paint a thin shade line with a dark colour between the seperation of colours and next to this an extreme highlight colour on the layer which lies the highest, This will get an nice 3D effect. Looking forward to see the progress on this figure;

Cheers,

Gino(2dope)

It looks very good to me too!
I agree with Gino, but I wouldn't do it everywhere just on some parts.

Great weathering :good:
Just a thought, where the red meets the wood a darker red or brown hair line would help the contrast imo.

will do, but atm if I start to paint it wets and activates the remaining chipping medium, so I have to seal it first with varnish once or twice.
But after sealed I can't change the chipping anymore.

therefore the question about the weathering. adding highlights to the red and highlight/shade where the red meets the wood can come after that.
