Ah cool I have scored myself a the little version of the twilight knight pin up! Same thing going through my mind how well can I do the skin. I have Varathar and his raptor to paint also I have assembled the raptor still contemplating what colour to make him.

Have fun, Merry christmas

Soo I started to paint the DungBeetleKnight from KD.

This is where I currently am.
Nothing special so far Base color of OxideGreen(YS) shaded with (BS) and BlueTransparent.

The question is how to go further. I could go to black, but then I'll loose the pattern on the armor (I want the grooves to be black). So really I have no idea how to push the shadows or even how to highlight it.
Any help is welcome.

Looking damn fine already! Are all those little cracks sculpted in? I hate to say this, but you may have to go with an oil wash that you can bleed in with capillary action and then wipe off of the high areas to get them done without losing your mind. Maybe a black/brown or a blue/brown mix? I have had mixed results with oil washes so test on something else first to be safe if you go that route ;)

yes, they are sculpted in and yes I was planning on using oils to paint them, so that isn't a problem.

what I really fear is losing the oxide-green's effect (brown color, but shimmering green from certain angles)

Yeah it's really nice, but would be a bitch to photo and then your scores would be low. I say screw the gallery and forum on this one and do what looks awesome in person. If you have to forego the oils to maintain the nice finish, so be it. Better to have the paint job you want and struggle to get the right lighting/setting for the pics than ruin a unique looking mini for the sake of better pics/scores!

I have had some good results with the VGC ink on the chaos lord around the armor just a coat of satin varnish 1st. I like your colour you could go crazy and use a blue to get the shadows it will also add some contrast and may give hime that shinny beetle/scarab colourings.

Great work, keep it up :)

So I'm finished with the KD-Beetle Knight.
What saddens me most, that I'm unable to capture the interference effect on the mini. Basically the armor has a greenish shimmer (blue-green in the shadows, yellow-green in the highlights), and the wings have a few colors(purple/red, green, blue) on it, that are similar (can be seen from an angle only).

Also painted the Infinity Promo-figure for the Paradiso Campaign:

And a little extra. This mini was for a painting-lesson, that I tried to write about painting. The first month was about basics (base color, drybrush, wash) used for better effects (not for gaming).
Basically the whole figure is painted only with drybrush and washes. The only exception was the face, where I couldn't resist to use a bit of more advanced techniques.
Still even though it's only drybrushed + washed (quite) a few times I really love, how the cloth turned out.

Ohh and it really took a LOT of concentration to do it only with drybrushing/washing and not to use other techniques.

Wow, three for three there! Lovely work and my screen lets me see a bit about what you are talking about on the knight. I can't believe that last one is just dry brushing and washes! Great results.

I was totally unsure if I should upload this pic, but... whatever at least it's a progress for painted minis.

Small SM fleet I got in december. Unfortunately I didn't get any bases, and noticed yesterday, that the bag of gw-flightbases are all used up too. So some necron destroyers lent theirs for this pic.
Painting is TTQ at best, but for gaming minis (from GW apparently) that's all I want, nothing fancy, just not bare metal.

Sooo, I wanted to paint up the Roman-Legion figures from scibor (about 1 unit + characters), but somehow it's not working, I simply hate them, and most are only undercoated (with some having a basecoat of brass for a gold base airbrushed).

So I sterted with this mini:

I'd the "faun" from origenarts. And it's a much better experience to paint (except the eye, that's weirdly sculpted, so harder to paint).

But I need advice on her, where should I improve the paintjob ?
And most importantly: is the blue-cloth ok there or should I use something else? Here this blue should be the deepest color, for highlights and all I wanted to have a mix of it a VMC-Buff to have a light greyish-green or with Ivory for a greyish-blue. The skirt has about 1 layer of the buff-blue mix on it atm.

You did a very good job on the skin so far. :) I think you can give the blue a try. Maybe you could give it some brown glaces so it looks a bit dirty and worn.

The skin is nice, the blue could work but right now it;s bit saturated and pops out too much. You might need to knock it back a bit with some glazes and washes to bring it more in line with the neutral or pastel colours of the skin and hair. I think the skirt is going in the right direction.

nothing much to show today.

Today I'll try to take pictures of the minis I've done/finished since the last entry here, as after that I'll have to pack them for the flight to Hungary.

Also the KD order from March 11th has arrived. I had to pay an extra 15% or so (21 euro for the package), so I really fear what will happen when KD:M delivers.
The Slenderman + Plastic pinups look amazing (I already have the 3rd part of my order: Illuminated lady, and it's even painted, the second one I'll paint up with normal skin colors, and skip on the OSL).

SDE - King Starfire.
I really hated painting it. The cast was so bad, that I hated it the moment I opened the box. It was really bad, especially considering the price on this figure.

Faun from Origenarts. A complete opposite of the Starfire. This one was a joy to paint. Almost no preparation was neccessary, and the figure is well defined, so it helps a LOT when painting.

Nude Mizuho from E2046.
This one was a weird exercise. The figure looks simple as hell, but there are 2 problem points:
- assembly, so no seams are visible (that'd ruin the skin effect). With cleanup and all took about 15-20 hours total, and even so it's not 100%.
- painting skin. Even though it's an anime figure, painting a semi-believable skin isn't that easy, especially in the size the figure is (scale is about 1/6)

One extra, that I tried here is the pastel/pigment shading, that was shown in the MiniatureMentor video (and suggested in another thread by Webmonkey)
And a bit of technique copied from Chris Clayton's HUSH tutorial (using baal-red wash + sepia wash for reddish areas )
All in all I like how this figure turned out.

I'll most likely upload the last 2 to my gallery too. The others are made more for gaming, then for display.

It's all great. I love the little houses and Faun turned out great! I just got my Plastic pin ups too. I lost a whole evening just looking at the detail!!!

Wow, you threw a lot of cool minis at us all at once. Starfire is the only one that is kind of " meh". I can tell you did not enjoy it.

The little guys on the third pict are neat. Could we get a picture showing them more from the front? The skin tone on the E2046 are lovely...and to get Meph's attention....nipples ;)

Not enjoying the king starfire is an understatement :D

the Nemesis - Orphans - more from the front:

also... I had 2 whole weeks to finish the Orphan 'army' (8 minis are still only primed), didn't finish with them, even though for gaming it'd take a day or 2 to be finished.
