I don't mind having dark circles under the eyes. But they could use some highlighting. They're like rolls of skin, so the upper sides of each need to lighter then the rest. You could also try a subtle purple glaze over them, but that's your call.
looks like to darkened it too much, as before the problem was, that that part was too light (see comments just before the wips). :D
to be honest, the parts under the eyes already have a few glazes of red and purple (more red, just 1 or 2 light glaze of purple), but they probably can be a bit stronger.

So... for tonight:
- lighten up just a bit under the eyes (not go overboard like before (up to ivory-basic skin mix)
- add more purple and some red
- I may add a bit more green to the temples, right now it's almost invisible.
- Have to stay away from adding more red to the cheeks. Others already commented that he looks too young / skin is too healthy. And I think it because of the warmer glazes used on the face (red glazes and red-brown mixed in the shadows)
- gloss the eye... I always forget it

- not likely to succeed, but take good pictures of both.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

and a question to all: I'll have a demo next sunday (7th dec) and so far 2 requests came in: NMM and painting by transparency (le rackham way).
I have no idea on which model I could do a good demo... for this I need ideas.
what I have (that I could take): lots of conf (all griffin, cynwall, wolfen, some from the others too), some others, that I deem unsuitable due to size (KD, DarkSword, SPM, Infinity), nothing from GW really (maybe a few necrons, but that's all).

basically I have a sh*tload of figures, but no idea which one to use for a demo on painting.

I guess the purple effect is just very subtle. Sounds like you're on the right track. Interesting that you paint in a catch light for the eyes and use a gloss glaze. I usually do one or the other. Do you like the combination of the two effects?

I think Wolfen would be a good choice. They're bigger (easier to see) and you can focus on the NMM with just their weapons as opposed to a fully armored figure. Maybe bring along some griffin or cynwall as well so you can talk about placement of light and dark on the more complicated shapes of their armor. You could make that part interactive and poll the students on where they think the light/dark areas should go.

man proposes god disposes... never got to the part to even begin painting it.

Instead looked around the "Weihnachtsmarkt" (Christmas Fair), with hot wine punch and some fast food.

Also found some EXPENSIVE green tea to try tomorrow. I bought a whopping 3g (enough for about 2 small cups) to try as per kg it costs 1245 euro (about 1550$)!!!
If anyone is interested in the name: Japan Matcha Yume (Bio) . Can be translate as about: Dream Tea. I wonder if it will live up to it's name. Another expensive type (japan gyokuro, first flush) didn't impress me at all.

Max your stuff is always incredible. If your unhappy with that Lannister bust I will be more than happy to take it off your hands and put it in my display cabinet :p

I'm a huge tea lover, but if i paid that much for tea I would be dreaming in the next life, cause my girlfriend would kill me. (let me know how it is though hehe).

soo tea tried...
I might be barbaric, but I couldn't taste any difference to "regular" Matcha. And even that I found less tasteful as a simple green tea.
Apparently this high-end, expensive tea isn't my thing, even though I do love the unfiltered black/green teas (assam for black, green jasmin for green).

The good part is that I didn't have to pay that much, 'just' about 4euro (5$) for a 2 cup sample.

as for the bust: next try to find time painting: this evening.

@Bailey03: yep, I used the colors sparingly. The purple ink was diluted almost to a point of it being dirty water and not ink anymore.
catchlight + gloss: yep I like the combination very much. If the eye receives no direct light you still see the light reflection, if it does, then it does have a double one (but if you look at the anime figure from the challenge, I used 3 there, so 2 could still look good) but it looks wet because of the gloss instead of dry.

sorry for the huge pic, but easier to find errors and such.

well I think I implemented most that I've written on monday.

With one extra, that's a bit hard to see: I remembered how in Chris Clayton's face tutorial he used 2 colors to glaze the mouth.
Baal Red (I used the subst ArmyPainterRedInk, it's the same) and Gyphone Sepia (AP-Soft Tone Ink), both thinned by about 1 or 2 part water for each part of 'ink'/wash.
The red glaze gave it the usual reddish color and I use it all the time now as the brownish red gives a nice natural effect. And now I tried to apply the other too like in the tutorial to make the mouth more realistic.
Of course at a point I freaked out and gave a few extra red glazes almost totally making the brown color invisible, but it's just barely still there.

I've been thinking about concentrating on a figure line in 2015 to get them to 100% painted.
But I can't decide which one should I choose. Therefore I need your help.

The possibilities:
- Year of Infinity (aleph + civilians)
- Year of Helldorado (immortals and/or lost)
- Freebooter year (Amazons and old limited edition figures)
- Year of Confrontation (Vile-Tis or Ophidian or Griff ??? )
- Year of small stuff (DarkSword and McVey and Langton)

To not hate them after a few weeks I'll throw in an occasional bust/75mm/anime kit/whatever, but I'd need some help deciding on the main plan.

thanks for any votes.

Hi ho that is a nice list too choose from, understand your problem. I would instead ask myself what kind of painting do you want too do. In that case bright colours, subdued colours. Fast painting, test a new technique? and so on and after that limit yourself to what you should do.

-
Year of Infinity (aleph + civilians) (for me a clean and colourful choice)
- Year of Helldorado (immortals and/or lost) (Dont know much about them, so I scrap these ones :) )
- Freebooter year (Amazons and old limited edition figures) (fantastic sculpts, nice to practice some darker skin tones and such and very tiny figures, as the infinty also are.)
- Year of Confrontation (Vile-Tis or Ophidian or Griff ??? ) (These are bigger models? or? well confrontation is always nice as I have heard it from others. might be good if you want to test some special technique that you see fit these figures.)
- Year of small stuff (DarkSword and McVey and Langton) (McVey do make great stuff, really like them. otehrs I dont know havent bought them. )

I would personally go for the infinity or McVey since I myself would like to paint some bright colored figures since mine usually are not so strong and more subdued colours. (not to say that these brand do have to be colourful or that others shound´t be. Just the way I see upon them.

Hope that I didn't confuse you too much now.

I completely forgot. Last sunday was the "Games Day Hungary 2014". A day, that's about games, shops and second hand shops and some painting too.

This year there were about 30 tables doing demo games of Infinity, malifaux, firestorm armada, x-wing, historicals, etc etc etc. Ohh and there was some GW too (2x 40K, 1x WHFB, 1x Epic, 1x BB).

The second hand shops were good for me, as I managed to get decals, foliage for dioramas cheaply and I managed to get 22 Conscripts for my Griffin army, so now I have 55 (+ few old spearmen + standard and musician aaaand a lot of conf4 plastic spearmen too).
The shops were both good and sad. Good because they mostly sold non-GW games(with FoW and Malifaux dominating) :), sad, because the one that did, sold them at 50% off, because they were getting rid of everything gw.

Aaand the painting part. Almost 200 entries for the Golden Gobbo :) . Of course as it's not a big international show AND painting is somehow being low prio for everyone most of the enties were TTQ or TTQ+, nothing more. This is partly sad for me, because the talent is there, but not enough access to learning material / painting workshops.
What I don't understand at all how did I won in multiple categories. I entered 6, got 6 goblins (mix of gold-silver-bronze), but I went there with the hope of getting about 2 of them, not all. Kinda freaked me out.
And with the hasslefree diorama I actually got the extra prize: a golden spontoon (tomahwk?). (something like this: http://www.vividlight.com/37/images/Tomahawk 1.jpg just different design, but similar)

I felt weird, as I'm really far far away from being that good, but at the same time winning it felt great too.
