MAXXxxx WIPs

The mini dio looks great....I think. The lights are just too glaring for me :( I know it's just a WIP pic my brother, but it would be so much easier to see what it looks like if you either filtered the light or found a softer light source (outside maybe, or even just in the bathroom) to photograph your WIPs by. The little dwarf on the bottom right is somewhat outside of the glaring light, and I can tell it is painted very very nicely. Just wish I could see the whole scene like this :)

Regarding the pastels, how are you measuring which ones are best?

Grain size and how strongly it covers. Although I'm not sure about the second. Sometimes weak covering means subtler transitions.

As for FC or Janelle being good ones: read it on reviews.

Hi,

Uhhhhh, I like the diorama... How have you done the coins?

I'm going to follow this post for sure.

Many thanks,
Mariano.

originally I bought a leather puncher for some wh40k necron conversion work (warrior -> flayed one, used it on the hands).
turned out it's great for coins too. :) the material is a thick cardboard adv. I got from darksword minis. But basically anything, including cereal boxes are ok for it.

So simple, yet they look good in the diorama.

Didn't do a lot of updates lately, so now a larger one.

First the dwarf diorama is finished or at least I don't really want to work on it anymore.

Lat weekend we had a painting jam in hungary again (it's the 4th time now). Was a fun weekend with friends and all.
I wanted to paint a rackham griffin rider made by legendarion, but somehow I ended up with finishing an Adeptus Mechanicus character instead (don't ask how). Goal was mostly a nice ttq, nothing fancy really.

There I got back the Cerci models painted by a friend.

Skin is dark as it's based on iridan flesh (P3) and not enough highlights, but I don't know I don't see a lot of dark skinned female models on the tabletop anyway, so I accepted them and didn't want a change.

----------------------------------------------------------------
yesterday my KD order finally arrived (no not the current, the one from the beginning of may) and despite the heat I started on the monsters and gods challenge with a model most of us don't see often. A MidNor Chtlonian Larva.
So far I put it together and started cleaning up, but in 40+C (about 104F) I gave up and let it stay how it is. Couldn't even go to undercoating it. Maybe tomorrow as it should be somewhat cooler.

Hi everyone,

I'm in need of ideas of a diorama base. The theme is urban warfare. What bothers me is that the scale is 1/144 (or 1/200 , Dropzone commander figures) and for example the bricks I have are as large as a human figure in that scale. Also I'm pretty sure, that I don't have enough / passing materials for this scale. So the question is what / how to do.

Some basic walls I can make from plaster (it also helps a bit for trash and scatter material), Because of scale I could use earth/sodium-bicarb. for soil (smaller grain as normal sand), but how to progress further?
Where I need ideas the most:
- brickwork / destroyed buildings
- smoke / smoke-trail of missiles
- explosions
- weathering (ok for this I have pigments and pastels, so should be more or less ok)
- vegetation (does green, live one look out of scene? should I use only 'dead' ones?)

General idea is:
- Shaltari war-walker vs a squadron of scouts (with some infantry helping) meeting on a street-corner
- base size would be about the same as a large oval base from GW (so small)
- warwalker has a forcefield activated (here I have some good ideas from CMON submissions)

The astronaut is great.

For terrain at the small scale look at model train shops that carry the small scale models. Also go to the Reaper forums and search for " CAV and terrain" as I know their had been some discussion for their robot game.

Yeah, nice job with the cosmonaut! Good colors in the face and nice blends there. One suggestion though, maybe add some highlights and shadows to the eyebrows. Perhaps it's the photo, but they look like a uniform shade of brown. Something as simple as a bit of dark brown along the bottom edge and then a few diagonal highlight strokes would help break up that brown.

lately I saw a lot of threads where busts were painted, so I gave in and started this:

today I might finish priming it after all the prep work.

For the shield and clothes I don't really have an idea yet, but so far the aims:
- a VERY LIGHT skin (light skincolors highlighted with blues(SWGrey for example) and such) with some effects (makeup, freckles, some advanced eyes). No idea if I can do them or give up as usual :)
- Hair similar to the one done on the scale75 chibi. I really like the result of that.
- clothes most likely brown and cream tones, something earthy
- shield... some pattern, most likely chipped red paint .
- metals.... I think I'll do normal metals, no NMM for this one.

sooo poor wolfen, the tank and the dioramas are pushed back again....

now if only PB would have been faster... (they promised 14 videos in 1 year, now after almost a full year they've done 6 or 7, and around jun the painting of this bust was promised, would have been good to use as a reference)
