Very Very nice now its coming together. Me thinks it will look top banana when its finished. We have to do some sort of combined image montage when all are finished. Am happy to put together if people want to email me their images and then post it in the discussion thread.

It's looking lovely. I think 10 has a good point but even then it is missing something, I can't put my finger on it though. Top work and I look forward to the finished piece.

What it's missing is contrast impo. Rock is never THAT grey or barren and then all of a sudden has lush plant life generally. What I would do is introduce some warm browns to add contrast as well as some moss like greens on the stone face. Also some vegetation on the right hand side bottom ground work would help complete it I think, it's a tad too sparse down there atm.

If you have pigments I would use some rich brown tones on the top and bottom of the piece. I also think it'll look more complete once the edges have been painted black around the plinth to help frame the rest of the base contents.

Hey Mega, the rock would probably have stain marks on it from water running down. Here is a piccie of one of my old climbing haunts Raven Tor in the Peak District. The black marks are formed by water that seeps through and down the porous limestone. Unclimable after rain and forms ice in the winter sometimes. Would add some nice contrast.

Random blobs of Realy thinned downs greens and browns and purples and what not on the cracks and crevices were you could imagine water seeping down; oh yeah a JB tip from the DVD you sent me ........ moss done by scrapping a bright green chalk and painting on the powder.


Yeah and contrast on the stones.


Man that's one super sweet base.... I want one ...jealous sulks!

Cheers boys, I see you've raided a picture of me from facebook climbing - that is before I added 4 stone in weight and lost most of my hair. What, you say it isn't me!

I think we maybe on to something with all this great feedback. Here's the next stage. I think it's finally getting there The whole thing is quite a bit darker in real life but you get the picture.

Great idea, could you enter the montage in the gallery for voting as well as a Wolf painting study. It would be great to see them together as it gives us aspiring painters the chance to see how you can produce outstanding results utilizing different visions of the same model.

Since finishing wolf I've been working on a Ma.K Gustav suit 1/35th scale I picked up at figure world. It's taken some time to put together and fill all the seams which is novel given the things we normally do. I've also prepared a base for him in line some thoughts I been having about planning more in the early phases of a project.

Everything including the face is wip right now.

Ah cheers Milosh - they don't get used for painting anymore. I guess it must be 15 years old. Although I did hear that Addy Bay still uses enamels for his gd entries!

Can i ask what colors/technique you used for the stone on the base. Can't seem to get my bases/stone to look that great. The weathering is amazing too..
It is going to be an amazing mini.

Alowan - are you talking about the base with the stone rock face or the sandy base I'm showing below?

Over the last day or so I've just started to slap some paint on. The base is going to have some soot and oil added, but only after the barrels are painted and fixed. Otherwise the suit it's has just been base coated.
