Miniature Wastage

A small glimpse

I recently took some pics for Wolf Fang that fit well in this discussion.

Here you can see most of the unpainted fantasy table (includes some 40K that need basing and a battlewagon)

Here you can see one of two GW shelves, each of these games still contain 99% of their minis unpainted (some not even assembled). For example Space Hulk, I painted one squad of termies and about 8 stealers, the rest are in the box

Here you have one bin of unopened minis:

it goes on.

Wow, you have a whole store\'s worth of Reaper... I say sort them all, be ruthless and sell the extras off on eBay. It\'s the only way to prevent yourself being found someday, walled into your house by piles of pewter and dead of starvation.

It took me months and months to build up the courage to attempt to sell off some of my collection. I did start an EBay store and ran it for a few months with the minis but only made a few sales and eventually gave up on the idea. Being in Canada I can\'t compete with US shipping rates on small packages and I can\'t bring myself to sell them in lots where I\'ll get less money per blister, I guess I\'d rather hoard them then get rid of them to cheaply. Heck, I even have issues about selling off painted minis. Too often in the past I have sold off vast amounts of minis only to regret it years later (once I sold a duffle bag full of old RP and RAFM weighing in at over 50lbs, I still lament that and it was close to 15 years ago).

The addiction rages on, it is painfully obvious that one of our local shops will be going out of business soon (even if the owner can\'t admit it) so I went in the other day and told him before that happens to give me a call and I would buy his entire mini stock at wholesale prices. Mind you my collection is bigger than his store inventory so it won\'t make that much of a difference.

 after the first 100, I quit counting and keep throwing new minis in my personal black hole (a spare closet)

I had planned on having this lead horde place on the ship, for my Viking Funeral after I die..but I\'m afraid the ship would sink from the weight before the flames got started.:(

Several months ago I was looking to buy Rackham\'s Ophidian archer from my LGS, but was bummed to see the blister had sold. About a month after that I was cleaning up my painting area and look in a bag to find the Ophidian archer. I think I have a problem. Buy less, paint more, buy less, paint more...
You know, I did a similar thing with a bottle of Glen Ord. It must\'ve been many months later (determined by the dust on the box) that I found this Glen Ord, feeling damn certain that I did not, in fact, buy it. Problems... lol

I figure it this way and REV can attest to this ,this is why someone created the Mini Exchange at least that is my thinking so I intend to give several away in them.I know by the time another one comes around I will have bought many moore minis,DAMN EBAY,DDlollollollol:cool:

I have sat on my shelf right now...

- Two Sword Brethren (ones been painted and stripped)
- One Emperors Champion (made from bits from the BT box)
- 10 Neophytes and about 20 Initiates (some already basecoated)
- A Rhino (with FW Black Templar Doors)
- 5 Assault Marines
- Land Speeder

This is soon to be joined by at least one Dread, a FW Venerable, but I can\'t decide to get the normal, or the BT variation...The plastic one looks plain awful, in my opinion...

And a squad of Terminators, with the FW BT shields and pads.

And a Skull-faced Chaplain, both the power armour and tactical dreadnought versions.

-------------------------------------------

- Dwarf Lord with Great Weapon (The one resting his chin on his axe...awesome sculpt!)
- WE Spellsinger
- WE Lord with Great Weapon

Soon to be joined by a Wood Elf Battalion Box set.

-------------------------------------------

- Two Uruk-Hai (Lurtz and a Captain - The one on the rock at Helms Deep)
- One Warg Chieftain
- Erkenbrand - On Foot and Mounted
- My Balrog - (Not actually GW. It was made by a company called Sabretooth, which as I understand, is in someway affiliated or something with GW, as the blurb on the box says its based in Lenton, same as Games Workshop. Anyways, it\'s massive, and far more impressive than the metal or plastic version. Its made out of slightly flexible plastic, and has quite a few joins, but I\'m working on these with green stuff, then repainting it, and sticking it in a diorama with a LOTR gandalf, to emphasise the size difference)

Balrog01.gif

This is all soon to be joined by a Rohan Legions Set

-------------------------------------------

As well as lots of old Eldar bits, the odd LOTR Goblin and Uruk Spue, a Warcraft figure I picked up (Grom Hellscream) and the Large Scale Jointed Space Marine I\'m gonna attempt to sculpt.

And then theres the stuff I\'m bound to get for xmas...

And the new eldar!

No more minis till these are done!!!

Its doesn\'t help that I\'m gonna try and paint each miniature to the best of my ability...

Don\'t get me started on Armour. I have quite a collection of 1/35 Tamiya kits (mainly German Armour) that has been gathering dust, some since the 70s (possibly even 60s) that I inherited from my dad. At least I come by my hoarding honestly, must be a genetic thing.

OK, I took pics and narrowed them down to 6, I hope it\'s not to many, I edited them down to about 50k ea to save downloads, sorry if it\'s to much...

1) Painting Area.
PA_5.jpg

2) Reaper Blisters.
PA_1.jpg

3) Primed Shelf (no GW minis here, OK, just a couple).
PA_2.jpg

4) Primed Shelf #2, also older painted minis as you can see.
PA_3.jpg

5) Shelf of unused fun stuff.
PA_6.jpg

6) Mostly GW unopened boxes and blisters.
PA_4.jpg

There\'s actually a bunch more but they are more spread out and I figured 6 pics was more than enough (and probablly overkill). As y\'all can see I\'ve attempted organization a few times but always failed miserably.

My attempt is to get rid of at least 5 minis for every 2 that come into the house. Makes the mini exchange interesting since I ship out with the intention of getting two and have gotten sometimes a lot more then two. I probably sit at around 250 little guys.

@ MPJ I feel so much better about my own collection now. Thank you very much.

Now I have to show those pics to my Wife and show here that we have plenty of room for new minis and that I don\'t have a problem and that the new Warhammer boxed set only comes with 200 minis and that\'s nothing compaired to .........
