Monsters or People, People or Monsters?

Which do you prefer to paint? People obviously includes elves, dwarves, etc.. Monsters includes.. umm... everything else! :p:rolleyes::D

People . . I just barely prefer Historicals. But my favorite part of the mini to paint is the face - really makes them seem alive.
Monsters are too fantastic sometimes to really bring to life in the same way . . . close but not exactly.

Anyone hate painting shoes? I always lose interest by the time I get to that point . . .

I like monsters, most of the time I can think of more extravengent (sp?) paint jobs for them that look right.

Monsters! Monsters! There\'s a reason for fantasy and it isn\'t slapping leather and metal on a normal Joe Schmoe.

When I have a nice big monster with some real character, I\'m happy as a clam.

Wow. Dunno. I hadn\'t thought about it, actually, but monsters are kinda more fun to do (and, dare I say it, easier), but tiny pewter people is what comes out better, I think.

I suppose the standard for painting monsters is just not as high as the expectations when painting humanoids. If Reaper\'s contests are an indication, then I suppose people prefer humanoid minis over monsters, wich, in the case of dragons, came as a surprise to me, since I thought that along with unicorns, dragons were one of the coolest looking models out there.

People or Monsters - Monstrous People

People

I think it\'s harder to paint people because we all know what they should like, realistic skin tones etc, where as with a monster who\'s to say what it should look like.

Having chosen people, I do like painting people that verge on the monstous chaos/wulfen etc. :)

well, I like monsters more, becuase they are easier to paint and convert....
but that makes the monsters less rare and I want to see more \"people\" than \"monsters\", espacially on the battlefield....

I think every mini is a challenge of its own.

I think it can`t find out what is easier to paint humanoid or monsters. Every style and type of a mini has its own good and weak points to paint. For me it don`t count is it a humanoid or a monster but its a cool skulpt or not.I think a nice skulpt make the fun of painting a mini.

What happened to tanks?

What about tanks and vehicles? They\'re not really monsters, and definately not people, we need a third category! I enjoy tanks not so much for the painting, but for the converting. When you take a regular kit and make it into lively piece with character, its a lot funner to paint. Not to mention, theres so much room on a tanks, you can practically do anything.

Have fun!

It depends on the day. There are days I pick up a brush and inspiration to paint people just isn\'t there. But the paint flows from the brush on a dragon or orc or beholder or whatever else. On other days... the opposite. So on some days I prefer people and on other days monsters. As to which is easier, its hard to paint anything if your mind is a blank palette. That depends on inspiration.

I\'ve had a Xorn (Zorn) sitting on my desk for the best part of eight years and still can\'t work out a decent colour scheme. So for me I\'ve got to say I\'m a people person! (Although my analyst says different.....just kidding!)

I like the monsters I\'ve got, but as with everything else Dragons come first!
{As for the name Dragonsreach it came from a Book, long since lost, where a character asks \"Whats a Dragonsreach?\"
To which the reply is \"Anything it can get it\'s claws on!\"}

I would also have to say monstorous people.. I like orcs, Mid-Nor Dwarves, Wolfen, Goblins, and I wanna get some Keratis clones (now that Dirz and Mid-Nor can ally :) ). I like humans, but I have had bad expirences with them (Fiannas that don\'t want to look right). :p

I would say monsters. They\'re less boring to paint in my opinion. I also have to admite I have a skin painting problem :D

I\'ll have to look up some statistics...

14 humans
12 bloodletters/beastmen
10 undead (various)
9 darkelves (D&D drow, not the GW kind)
7 imps
3 Gnolls
2 elves
1 dwarf
1 goblin
1 orc
1 half-orc
6 non-humanoid creatures (2 fire elementals, 1 air elemental, 1 stone golem, 1 horse, 1 err... monster).

Looks like humanoids win. And humans win among the humanoids. However there are 20 zombies in progress, so that will I think tip the balance hugely towards undead once they\'re finished.
