I love this argument.
I am sure that circa 110 AD citizens of the largest world economy that also possessed the largest and the most advanced world military were giving the same argument. (I am talking about Roman Empire, of cause) Alas, in about 200 years that largest economy quietly disappeared along with its military.
Current largest economy/military exist as such for about 60 years... so yes, you are correct on a historical scale it is a fluke.
