Dont make me pull out my cut and paste answer to this one... lol lol lol

Well, at least I\'m somewhat safe from retaliation on this one since I have nothing in my gallery. :D I\'ll get around to it one day...honest. Maybe this summer.

On a seperate note, I got to take a look around at PP\'s offices. Neat stuff! :D

You do have a point...

Forum topics can become amazingly repetitive and incredibly boring for the long-term inmate, but, having done a recent tour of similar forums, CMON seems to be pretty reasonable. At least you get a reply in the same month!!

For the strong of heart, Frothers UK seem to offer a *cough* interesting forum which is well worth a look. You will even be able to catch up wth the antics of BME:bouncy:

Not shocked to see this happen to Dreamforge. I had a feeling that these models would not last long. When I first saw them I thought that they were done for GW.

It sucks that GW has the finacial power to stop smaller compainies from creating things \"simaliar\" to their\'s, but they do.:flame:

Nowhere on Dreamfoge\'s site was there any reference to GW.... warmachines in the scale of Dreamforge\'s figures are not supported by any GW product... the iconography used by Dreamforge is generic to any number of historical sources..where\'s the conflict?

In GW\'s mind. Who cares if the minis were ugly (not my opinion, I liked them)? Aesthetics are always debatable. Who cares if they were exhorbitantly priced? Save up or don\'t buy them. If the figure line was going to die a natural death, well, that happens all the time. Everything gets discontinued sooner or later.

My beef is that they got run out of town by some rich cattle baron bastard.

Really, this should be a western movie...

That may be true, but GW did at one time license to Amorcast, i believe, large scale warmachines (Titans). I am unsure if they were suported by any game rules. If memory serves me corectly, and it may not, they looked somewhat simaliar to what Dreamforge did.

Agreed.

Again I agree.

The Armorcast Figures licensed by Games Workshop were the Warhound and Reaver titan figures. Forge World is currently offering figures of this type. There are rules.

The figures Dreamforge was offering are of a similar type but different class. No patent rules are offered from GW for the figures. Rules to play them in 40K could be formulated by using GW\'s Vehicle Designs Rules from Chapter Approved 2004, dunno if there is a newer set of VDR specifically designed for use with 40K 4. ed.

GW could argue, I suppose, that Dreamforge\'s figures are similar to products GW is offering in Epic scale and that rules to use these figures with 40K using named rules, ergo copyright infringement. The problem is, rules for anything can be formulated using VDR, that\'s the main idea behind the rules... and since we all seem to be in agreement that the figures, similar in form as they are to certain GW product, share a similarity with many other gaming concepts, I ask the question again, where\'s the conflict?

???

We could sue Tolkien for copying E.R. Eddison as well! He wrote stuff that Tolkien surely plundered lol

That\'s bad news mind, the Dream Forge thing. I\'d never have known about them except for this thread, but it is a sad state of affairs. It does look remakably similar to a Titan, but then who gives a shit? GW are having a laugh.

I agree every week another GW thread pops up. But the masses of people on this site still buy their minis?
This I don\'t understand.

Now I see why people go the fleabay route, or bagin bin. But think about this. If you stopped buying here too, just think what effect this would have on the new market. A product that has zero resale value crashes too. But you will still buy th eproduct and continue to bitch about it.

Just look at the ogre range, possibly some of the worst minis I have EVER seen. but yet I have seen them pop up on here all over the place???

I have not bought any of their stuff for about 3 years. I am not saying I won\'t but at the moment I am very heavily into Rackham. I see these as the only major comp GW have so I will help them. I don\'t like monopolies and at the moment GW seem to have it.

Bottom line if you don\'t like the company, don\'t buy their stuff.

atacam, it\'s not their stuff, it\'s thier aggressive protctivist policies I don\'t like. I like Dreamforge\'s stuff, can\'tbuy it now because GW shut it down. I like Ultraforge\'s stuff, can\'t buy it on Ebay any more because GW shut that down.

It\'s the policy I don\'t like, not the minis.

I know what you are saying. But if you don\'t buy the minis, the policies will change, because the company will have to become more consumer friendly to win back favour. Don\'t forget they walk a tighter rope as they have sharholder breathing down their necks.

Frothers looks really interesting...

I love their relaxed approach to moderation ie they don\'t appear to do any:bouncy: Some very entertaining stuff!

CMON seems to be sort of \'in the middle\' between the \'anything goes\' approach at frothers and the anal, uptight other mini forums we all know and love:D A good place for us to be I feel;)

Well, its quite simple. Everyone knows Crack is bad. If you do it a few times well....Maybe what we need are GW support gruops. A... G.W.A. type of an organization. Interventions and all. Help your fellow mini-painter instead of casing these feelings of guilt. \"Forgive them for they know not what they do\"?:innocent::innocent::innocent:

Doesn\'t mean that someone (dreamforge) can rip off their iconography though!!! Just coz there are rules doesn\'t justify it at all.

I seem to be one of the few here that likes the concept of ogre kingdoms, despite some sculpts that are very uninspiring. It adds something more that the old stupid ogres (sorry shrek!) I like the reference to east-asia.

Even though it\'s pretty funny in WH fantasy, that the \"good guys\" mostly have references from the western world while the bad guys either are depraved common people or take their reference from other historical parts of the world. But that goes back to Tolkien really.. and even further I presume. The elves.. long and blond.. \"over human\". Orcs.. black. impure. easterlings, middle east.. etc. Of course they don\'t have everything in common with the different cultures.. but still, the reference is there. It can create problems if not viewed with a critical eye.

Ah, yes, we all know and love GW policies. I can\'t say I remember a time when it\'s been better, for I have started playing just a year ago.

But I have to say, GW needs to remember and realize a few things.
First of, they claim a copyright on every little bitty of fluff, even stuff like Orks, dwarves and elves. I\'ve even seen claims that the word \"Eldar\" was copyrighted to them, which it is definitely not, for Tolkien used it long before GW even existed. They need to remember they did not invent every tad bit of fluff all by themselves, but combined stuff others had created into a new world. These days you can\'t create something entirely new, just recombine old things. Even if you come up with everything by yourself, it\'s probably been used already.
Secondly, they should realize that guarding their so-called copyrights like a cerberus won\'t get them into any better position, more likely even into a worse position. If everybody cared so much about licenses a light bulb would cost hundreds of dollars, cause we\'d have to pay Benjamin Franklin\'s and Thomas Edison\'s descendants.
The customer appreciates freedom. Hell, even doing a conversion is hard at the border to breaking the copyright.

I think they\'re gaming systems are still cool; easy to learn and all, and that their minis aren\'t works of art in themselves could be considered a plus, because then you have a lot of room for improving them. And after all we should not forget that you can\'t do as much detail in plastic as you can in resin. What they have lost is not quality of product, but quality of customer service. The staffers in the local store are great guys, and they all agree that GW policy ain\'t the best, but they can\'t change a thing, for those at the top control everything. Maybe one should kick their asses out of their bureaus and make them travel through the stores and meet gamers, so they remember what this hobby is all about:
Having fun

Perhaps GW will get back to earth, perhaps they won\'t. I don\'t really care much. It\'s the way business works, and even if I disagree, I can\'t change it. Unless, of course, I got super-rich and bought all the GW shares.

GW can\'t stop all the small companies, and sooner or later they have to realize that and just think: Hey, why stop them? Let\'s make them work for us.

Anyways, I\'m not going to discontinue buying GW stuff, \'cause I like the games, but neither will I discontinue arguing with staffers about the policies.
Hmm, maybe at this years Games Day Germany I can meet one of those gurus and kick his ass.

WEll, I better shut up before I begin to repeat myself, which I fear has already happened.

P.S. Another thing I dislike about GW is the fact that many of their online stores only allow for Credit Card payment, with no explanation as to why this is so.
