Drink!

Though, I\'m not even sure why I opened this thread, since I knew exactly where it was going. Oh, wait... that\'s right... to increase my post count with a meaningless drink! :bouncy:

I am proud to say that I haven\'t bought anything from GW in about 2 years now. No paints, no brushes, no models. Mainly because I prefer Vallejo paints, W&N/Vallejo brushes, and WARMACHINE. ;)

Them pesky wiper snappers are gonna price themselves off the planet by cracky!
Why I can remember when I saw the original beaky space marines in a box set back in high school and I seem to remember they were pricey back in the good old days.

It\'s all plastic, and now it\'s all the time LOL. I still bought them back then. but I don\'t any more.

The customer loyalty thing has been an issue with the gamers for longer than I remember. You used to be able to get good service and cool bitz from them the\'ve cut some of that off now. Subscriptions to white dwarf came with freebies.. etc..

GW doesn\'t care and they won\'t listen because they have too many expences, too many molds, oil\'s up and lead costs too much by the pound. The third world countries are buying it up to make consumer goods etc. etc. The list goes on and on... Too bad so sad. should take a lesson from Ral Partha and a few other now defunct companies. They will be missed but on the bright side their stuff will be worth alot more on ebay. lolololololol.

As of the 27th February we will be changing the prices on a selection of our products. To give you as much notice as possible so you can get your miniatures at the current price, we\'ve listed the major changes below:

THE PRICE CHANGES
Warhammer 40,000 plastic tank boxed sets change from £20 to £25
Warhammer 40,000 plastic APC boxed sets change from £18 to £20
Paint pots change form £1.75 to £2
Warhammer 40,000 plastic bikes change from £5 to £6
Collector’s Guides from £5 to £6

I suppose it\'s the same with our energy bills going up too. All those hydrocarbons they use to make the buggering things. It\'s no wonder really.

Well Im glad someone said this..Not that Im defending GW\'s price increases cause Im not but the only price increases you qoted was on plastic kits. They are made from styrene and thats made from oil. Withe the prices of crude jumping 50% or more in the last year its going to happen at some point. Ive seen it in military model kits too .My only advice is buy what you need and be on the look out for deals and sales. I bought a brand new Rhino and the forgeworld heavy bolter turret off ebay a couple weeks ago for $22.00 US

I\'m wondering, every time there is a price increase people on every forum start outraged posts about how unfair this is, but every time I think : \' does gw force anybody to buy their overpriced plastic crap? \' the answer has to be no :) Prices go up in every part of the economy, live with it and find the cheaper alternative.

See, I have these moments of clarity. It must be all this cycling. I feel fit and healthy of mind and body. I need to take a long, hard look at myself lol

I might be fuzzy on some of the details, but my understanding is this...

Ral Partha was purchased by FASA, which went out of business. Some of the RP guys got together and bought back the company, but for legal reasons had to change the name. The company is now known as Iron Wind Metals, still employs many of the same people it did back and the day, and still has many of the original sculpts available. It continues to bring back some of the oldies, as well as commissioning new sculpts for a number of lines.

At the end if the day, its like gambling. GW made a good play with LOTR but didn\'t know when to quit, the pushed forward (greedily in my mind) to bring out the Eastern book and models. GW stopped being a an enjoyable hobby based business and went too coperate. At Games Day UK 04, I noticed the \"Suites\" standing in an office at the top of NIA looking down onto 8000 hobbiest. I\'m sure they were thinking \"Money, Money Money!\"
I say- They lost what they were and now are opening the door for smaller, no so reconised companies to challange for the top spot.

With regards to the excessive drinking.....Keep at it guys!!!!!!!:D

I used to paint for them back in the day and there were many causes for them going out of business most of them brought on by themselves. Iron winds has ressurected them from the ashes and I understand that at least one of the former owners/partners is now participating in the company. We shall see how that goes but they are not anywhere near the leader they once were. Many of there good sculpts are unavailable because of legal issues..

Prices do go up with the economy.. Iron winds is a cheaper alternative and thats for sure. I think some companies arrange price hikes just to raise prices and it has nothing to do with the economy. In GW\'s case I think the Economy caught up to this and has forced the issue after the fact. Oh well it\'s a mute point. Buy something else I guess.

I would think that their results for the last year actually justifies their price increases. They made 100,000 profit from 57 million turn over. That means their margin is nearly non-existant. And I don\'t think that jsut because some one feels like GW somehow owes them loyalty that GW should price themselves into insolvency.

perhaps, but the stuff being sold on Ebay has to come from somewhere - somewhere along the line it had to be purchased from GW - unless someone starts churning out illegal copies of GW models.;)

I say \"raise away\".

The pure power of capitialism! If the marketplace can handle it, it will, if not they will have to make changes.

They have every right to make every penny they can, just as I have every right to spend my pennies on other miniatures, or save them.

We should have more posts like \"HEALTH CARE COSTS SKYROCKET\". You want to talk about greed and profitering, look there. AND those are services and products people HAVE to have!! That is where our outrage should be aimed at.
