Hi y\'all, you guys are the top:flip:

I\'ve been hard at work this week and I finished this guy:

I\'m quite happy with it, you can see I tried some more patterning stuff, it\'s more simple this time so it came out a lot nicer. It\'s the best horse too, I think.
I tried to fix his hair as Funny told, but somehow I lost definition along the way...
I\'m happy with the face too, just the fact I didn\'t ruin it is cool...
I also started experimenting with glazes a bit, on the skin and some other places... I get patches of paint no matter how much I mix it, but my guess is that it\'s cause of the crappy paints I use:(

Anyway, I always need your support so please vote :D

another improvement. your darklining of the little bits is looking good, and i really think the horse is cool. good job on the knights head too.
despite what you say about the hair losing definition, i think it is looking better. dont be afraid to go really extreem with the hilights in a few areas, and remember to stare at pretty young lady hair (not down there!), to better grasp where the hilights should be. if you have problems with your paint running too much dont hesitate to use it a bit thicker. i find that when doing things like hilighting individual hairs i want the paint to be thick enough that it doesnt go anywhere, but thin enough that it still comes off the brush easily. a tough balance.
what kind of paints are you using?

be careful with metallics!!!! i can see on the shield where you overpainted and then covered it up. metallics have a tendancey to shine through layers of paint in photographs, even when they can tbe seen with the naked eye. keep this in mind, and be very cautious about getting it where you dont want it.
dont rush! while freehands are nice, the basics are better :D. i see a few places (like the sleeve on the horn arm) that clearly did not receive as much attention (blending) as the more \"flashy\" areas (like the cup). keep it up! how may more knighs are you going to post?

I\'ll take your advice on the hair, it does go everywhere and I\'ll be glad to have it thicker a bit. ( Look at their HAIR, noted;)
It\'s not overpainting on the shield, a very sad late night misstep wher I decided it needed just a little more highlight and went in the wrong pool:( It show SO MUCH on camera. But you can clearly see the intention behind that stroke, lol.

I use cheap craft paint, 2/1$ at dollar store, I\'m ashamed.. but it\'s the only way I could get full range with my budget. I do have the starter kit from GW, a lot better, but WTF am I gonna do with 9 colors.. mix all day???
Anyway I\'m still struggling between GW and Vallejo, I\'m gonna go for the big box on my next pay.

And that horn arm looks so blotchy :(

I got two more knight coming, Champ and SB ( In gaming term, they call that a unit:p )
After that I got a bunch of skavens, don\'t worry I won\'t post every single one of them;)
After I got 10 mounted wights, Screaming bell, Black coach, Enchantress of the lady, King Louen on hippogriff... I got two more dwarves for my own, but I have no Idea when I can get to paint them.
I\'ll have to build up some speed soon:D

Enough bragging.. thanks for the tips and your much appreciated support.

That last guy is now my favourite, I have posted a nice long comment :D I like that you put felt under the bases, a wise move. I do that with my display models, and the muffled thunk when you put them down just can\'t be beat! :D

Do I get to be on your thank you list? ???:innocent:

nice. youve made some marked improvements in several areas. most notably th cloth *esp* the cloth on the reins and purple shirt look fantastic; very smooth and great, vibrant colors (thats not to say that i didnt like the darker scheems). the metal face mask and the horses face are also sublime. i really suggest that you spend some time mastering darklining. i hate to b eat it in to the ground, but it can make a world of difference. i, too, am not fond of its overuse, but it can clean up transitions between lights and darks wonderfully (eg the horses light collar and the chainmail) and also helps shade things as you would expect natually (under the chamfron/barding on the head).
my second suggestion is about the heraldry. what it is doesnt matter, how it is painted does. in this case i would expect the symbol to be embroydered, or dyed using inks and blockers. either way you are going to get very crisp shapes, color or no color, one color or another. i suggest making sharper edges, and more distinct patterns.
well done, you\'ve earned an extra 1/2 point from me (i will vote twice).

edit: i notice a \"hold point\" scuff on the white fabric. might want to touch that up.

@Funny: With all those tips, I can start writing a book^^ always means a lot to me.

Well, finished tonight.. I had to spend an extra day on that banner, I had no idea how much work it would be.
But now they\'re all done, and I can proudly say I finished my first unit.

I realise this thread have hung there for a long time and that I do request a lot of attention. I\'m really thankful to you all and all your attention means a lot to me and contributes greatly to both my improvement and my enjoyment.

Now I\'m going to start working on another unit, skavens this time, which I will submit only once, as a unit. So I won\'t bother you for a while, outside the WIP thread ( Or general discussions, or other places I usually bother you.)

Tossed a comment for your Standard bearer, please read it when it is published :)

The whole unit I gotta say I\'m a bit disapointed... they simply varry too much in colour, from really dark to bright... It doesn\'t work for me, looks wierd...

BUT! As you can see from my comment, I\'m still impressed with your advancement :D I\'m happy to hear that peoples comments helps.

well done. draw a thin black line inbetween the brown and the white in the trees, it adds contrast and helps make them look better.

great work on that last guy. i like the banner a lot, and the hrealdry/freehand is the best youve done so far.

i dont intend to bog you down or dicourage you with all of my comments :(, just trying to be helpful.

id say i like them as a unit - the varyation works for me. each is an individual, a powerful knight in his own right, with his own lands and heraldry to defend. good job.

if you want some skavens to paint up that you can keep after you practice on the commish stuff id be happy to convert up and send you some.

I know they come out pretty heteroclite but I think that\'s how theyre supposed to be... by design. Maybe a question of dosage though.

C\'mon! Neither of these answers and of course you are, I heed every word of them and take them in consideration. You\'re my booster I told you, don\'t change a thing.
If I ever run out of commish I\'ll give you a shout;) ( Not that I think this will happen in my perceivable timeframe.)
