My first skulpture - A Giant

For a first sculpture you ve done yourself really proud. It has its issues, not so much the head size. I would maybe work on the details a little more if possible. The small head makes it look more stylised and I like it. I think the feet are a little flat looking, not sure if you only wanted 4 toes, they need to look a little more curved in the right places. Definately re-do the weapon. It looks a little unimpressive for a giant i'm afraid. The shoulders look off and a little unnatural and the veins are a little thick. a body building mag will give you some some instant anatomy reference for veins and muscle shape. But on the whole great. Post it in your gallery and get painting!!!

Thanks for your reply! I Will try to fix the feet and look over some detail on it. I know what you mean about the weapon, it sucks... I never got any good idea for it.

Well even a straightforward knobbly club would be fine or an axe. Basically anything basic/primitive or a simple weapon normally works best for giants.

dude thats no giant, its a bloody titan! :) i agree about the weapon, some nasty club with spikes/nails/spears would do the trick. cool.

But there's something cool about looking at a mini and knowing that you created it, from nothing but a bunch of blue and yellow blobs.

Yep your right, its more personal. You have more of an attachment to the mini I suppose. Well at the start.

Very nice work for a first sculpt. I can't really add much more to what other said, but I think if you wanted to change the weapon that would be a comparatively easy job and could add a lot.

Regarding the veins, next time you sculpt veins try this following tip to do it, should make life a little easier for you.

Many people cut a channel in the shape of the veing and lay in thin rolls of putty and smooth it. This is okay for larger pieces, but this way is easier....

1)Cut a line in the approxiamate shape of the vein with a needle tool/cocktail stick etc (use bodybuilder mags for reference or google images)
2)Now get yourself a clayshaper tool (if you dont possess one I highly recommend them - its a silicone tip brush basically available in a different sizes and shapes) and push the clay/putty back together very gentle. Make sure the line you create is thin and subtle, the cut does the work of holding one side while you push the clay into the ridge line
3) Now you have a rough ridgeline of your vein, simple tease the line in shape with finer detail using the point of the clayshaper.

Here is an example on one of my own sculpts where i have used this technique....
