Ok, so first I\'ve got to say that your mini is really bad and I\'m not a bit jealous...lol
By the way what colors did you use for your gold nmm?

to make the red reflections work you can put a shinier red object on his base at a decent angle

as for the reflection they are fine, but the silver NMM isnt...it needs more contrast to be that reflective, the main reason it looks less metallic(which you did good on the gold) is the colour..its too grey, and too saturated kinda so it looks very cartoony and doesnt have that same contrast

this translates to the hair...the rest of the mini has more desaturated colour and the skintone looks more like a darker skin, so blonde hair looks completely out of place, but what makes it more so is that its yellow hair and not blonde

for the skin to not look darker, you need to bring the true colour into the highlights, and the forehead/cheek on the right side of the head-on pic should be much brighter...you can see its illuminated in your photo

also try to keep the red under the cheeks unless female with softer cheeks....also the reflections from the metal on the skin would be more subtle, and not so much in a \"reflection\" but reflected colour...so the bottom of his jaw might reflect a bit of cold steel colour, his chin maybe a bit of ochre

the reflection on his lips kinda looks more like a mustache...any reflection on skin needs to transition into skin well, and not stand out too much, but not be too subtle

so to summarise...

a bit more highlight and skin tone on the face to bring it up from a dark skin tone to a more white skin(since he has blonde hair)

tone down the hair to allow it to fit in with the other colours better...also fade the highlights(not as bright) a bit as you move away from the face to help define the lighting a bit more and this should enhance the overall effect a bit more

more contrast for a more reflective silver

Thanks everyone! :)

EDIT: forgot to post recipes:

The skin was painted with a Scorched Brown/Chaos Black mix, a Bestial Brown/Dwarf Flesh mix, and Elf Flesh, and Skull White.

The nmm silver was painted with Chaos Black/Scorched Brown mix, P3 Bastion Grey, P3 Trollblood Highlight, Skull White (I picked warm greys since I want the whole piece to be in warm colors). I need to shade it more so that will be done with the black/brown mix and Bastion Grey.

Looks amazing Matt

love it amazing... one thing, i am not piticularly impressed by the hair. in fact i dont like it. doesnt look real, like the rest of the model, i would try putting some greenish glazes into the reseses of the hair, i know it might sound dumb, but green is a good shade for blond hair which will make it look more... \"real\"

Loving the overall feel to it, the gold nmm is nice as is the silver, but its complemented by the face, adding to the whole atmosphere.

The hair could be sorted a little but i think you said its being worked on, still looking great so far

I thought the red of the breastplate reflections were going to be from a lava base :)

Regardless

Second update for the day :D

I\'m much happier with it, now I can move on to the other parts of it.

Thanks for the suggestion of green glazes in the hair. It countered the reddish shadows. I used a mix of Chaos Black and Snakebite Leather for that, it makes a lovely dark olive green color.

I decided to keep that reddish color that I glazed around the eyes. I added a touch of Liche Purple too. It really gives him an evil look. In fact, more like a little insane! :D

On his right shoulderpad there\'s some reflected color from the gem and setting. I think it\'s a touch too bright so I\'ll go glaze some grey over it.

I need to come up with some kind of freehand design for the cloak. Any ideas?

Thanks again everyone for all the kind words and suggestions. Keep \'em coming! :D

The shading on the hair really helped a lot. Good call toning it down. It fits in better with that gorgeous dark cloak now. This model\'s looking pretty badass, I really liked it from the moment I saw the sculpt, and between you and Joe I\'m feeling pretty inspired to try and get my hands on one soon.

Rubbish... Who would want to paint like that... There isn\'t a single good thing in the whole thing... Who said I\'m jealous...
But seriously I need more recipes (sorry):
-Gold nmm
-Blonde hair

Cheers, JE:beer:

Thanks guys :) Jericho you really should paint one. It\'s a fantastic model. I\'ve been very impressed with the casting quality of the new Chaos figures (normally GW casts are very good and smooth but these have been extraordinary!).

Here\'s the recipes:

Gold:
-Chaos Black + Scorched Brown mix
-Snakebite Leather
-Bubonic Brown
-P3 Sulfuric Yellow (a little bit lighter and more yellow than Bubonic Brown)
-Skull White

Hair:
-Tausept Ochre
-Shaded with Bestial Brown and a little orange added
-Shaded with Dark Flesh
-Iyanden Darksun
-P3 Sulfuric Yellow
-Skull White

that makes the really yellow hair on the previous page. To get it to look like this I did glazes of Snakebite Leather, and a Chaos Black + Snakebite Leather mix in the shadows (makes a greenish color)

Cheers

My recipes are better you know... I\'m never going to use yours.. I could have done a way better job on that mini...
(Coming back out of my dream now)
I think you should do a sort of a portrait of a chaos god, complicated but you can pull it off.

Cheers, JE

The armour is looking top. I like the red reflections - so it\'s a shame that he cloak wouldn\'t cast them.
I also thought the hair was too yellow - it classed quite badly with the gold and looked unnatural. The new browner tones really help.
I like the way the face is going though this is going to look very nice when he\'s all finished.

Loving the skin the guy looks completely insane, but controlled insane.

The hair looks a lot better now also, more natural now.

With the cloak maybe around the bottom some slaanesh symbols? or maybe some gold kinda pattern?

much better, the one thing i think made the biggest difference was the skin tone on the face

took a turn for the best :)
