I thought about it and i think one thing the shield needs is for the mountains to be re-outlined with black so they are really defined

Sven Jonsson
Still fantastic! :)

However the armour suggest a very strong light source, more or less absent on the shield. It\'s too dark imo as well. I also think the shield needs more arbitrary reflections and distortion. Look how you\'ve added such effects all round everywhere else, but the shield looks more like a framed painting.

The rest is the best work I have seen from you so far :)

Just picked up this thread.

Big fan of your stuff Matt but think this is way above anything you\'ve done before. Honestly think this its the best NMM gold I\'ve ever seen. Can scarcely believe it isn\'t metallic.

It isn\'t just about the NMM though; the skin, the cloak, all top-notch.

Knowing how small the figure is, I think the job you\'ve done on it is nothing short of exceptional.

Excellent work on the armour but I agree with Sven with regards to the shield.
It is very flat and lacking the contrast and bling to make a convincing mirrored effect.

Matt, I am a huge fan of this mini and your version of it. The character reminds of the main character in the film \"A Clockwork Orange\"

Did you spray the mini with a base coat of black or prime with a brush?

Also, have you ever tried priming black and then use a white primer to only spray directional light onto the model?

Thanks,

Thanks a bunch guys :) :)

@Avelorn and Talonicus: Thanks for the input. I agree totally and will be touching up that shield tomorrow :D

I sprayed the model with GW black spray (it has a very smooth finish)

I\'ve never actually tried doing the white overspray on the model. All the white spray I have bought tends to have a grainy finish compared to the black. I just keep in mind where the light source is coming from while I paint and everything seems to work out ok :)

Cheers,

Got the shield touched up today. Brightened it and added some more little reflections/highlights.

I also went to the hardware store and bought some wood for a base. Found a nut and bolt in the garage that will fit this perfectly, that way I can securely attach the figure to the base and take it off if needed (The nut will be glued on the underside of the gaming base, and there will be a hole drilled through the wood for the bolt.

The base was done with milliput, slate bits from the 40k basing kit, and some sand. I wanted to show the ground shifting to make a path for Sigvald, so I tried to make the rocks look like they are lifting up through the dirt.

The base has since been painted and is just awaiting varnish. Sigvald has been dullcoted and gems have been coated with gloss. Just an hour or two and I\'ll get up a voting link!!! :D

Looking raaaad! I think the shield looks much better now all brighter and shinier and what not!

The one thing i actually dont like about it is the miniature, he seems wierd, and that way he is holding his sword and shield... i dont know, not right. Altough you did a cool job on him, very shiney hehe! I also think his armor is abit uncool, but i dont know perhaps its the WOW talking, when you see all the people in biiiiiig armors and biiiig weapons. Anyways cool paintjob but the miniature is lacking in the coolfactor :)

I\'ve been lurking on this thread since it started, I can\'t even imagine being able to do NMM half as good as this, let alone everything else.

You truly are an inspiration Mattster. Keep up the amazing work.
