Wow man that\'s a very impressive result. I\'d love to paint a copycat version at some point, to see if I can get a hand of NMM. Thanks for the big pics as well, great reference material for the future :)

That is simply amazing  Can barely believe anyone can actually paint something like that! The shield man, never seen anything like it before!

You always produce great work and this is no exception. I give you a 10 because the NMM is gorgeous but what make me ache to click 10 was the result of the shield. You did an excellent job of creating a bowed reflective surface. And the scene depicted in the shield really creates the atmosphere in my opinion. I like how you created subtle clouds and the like. Great work! You better come to chicago for gamesday!

Absolutely beautiful! Now you\'ve got to wait months before entering it in at GD, what will you do with your spare time till then?

You\'ve set your benchmark for improvement ridiculously high so early in the year, genuinely can\'t wait to see what you come up with next :)

Glorius work. As one whos feeble NMM attempt ended up looking like soggy cardboard this log has been an inspiration ........ thnx for taking the time to post the wip work.

cheers

Matt, excellent work! I have several nice mini\'s I\'ve been avoiding because I\'m afraid of NMM. I\'ve been inspired, going to begin the trainwreck tonight.

Seriously well done, thanks for taking the time to post it for us to drool over.

Cheers folks for the kind words and votes :)

@Crazy: CMON shrinks the images I upload occasionally and for some reason it will make them fuzzy and pixelated. I don\'t know how to fix this so I decided to post the larger clear images in the forums.

Thanks again everyone,

They get shrunk unless you compress them a bit yourself. The compression process, I don\'t know if it\'s automated or what, but it sucks the life out pretty quickly compared to when you do it yourself in Photoshop or whatever.

Or you can host them somewhere else and not worry about it! I post mine to my Coolmini blog site and link from there.

Well I use the \"save for web and devices\" option in Photoshop, and then change the pixel width to 500 or less, until the file size is under 200kb. But for some reason even after that CMON makes it fuzzy? Maybe I just don\'t know what I\'m doing! lol

I don\'t think Coolmini likes files over 100kB (capital B makes a difference of 8x multiplication lol) being uploaded. I\'ll check it out a bit and see if I can find the relevant info.

<edit> So yeah 200kB maximum, but I think there\'s still a rule for compression in effect. If the image size:pixel count ratio passes a certain number, it compresses the image (poorly). Try uploading a file at ~150 or ~125 kB and see if they get compressed. The current one has been shrunk down to 91kB which is nuts for a file 500x1500 pixels. </edit>

Oh yes there is more Chaos in the works. But that probably won\'t be seen until after Games Day :) I still have to keep some secret entries!!! lol

If this doesn\'t place at GD I will kill a cat.

Ridiculously good. Too friggin\' good. You\'ve got the sauce my friend!

Having thought about it for a while, I just wish you had placed the gaming base upside down. It could still have been removable, but with the slope of the sides inverted the groundwork could have gone right to the edge and completely hidden it. Ok, it\'s a really minor issue, but I think it would have been nice to have the symbol on the base run across the edges to give an even more cohesive look.

Anyway, it\'s still a really fantastic piece, well done.

And with the base upside down it will look even more as if the power of chaos moves all dirt away from Sigvalds feet:D But really, its a minor thingy

I know this thread is a little old but this version of Sigvald keeps prodding my grey matter. It\'s the shield you see, I\'ve been lurking here long enough to see some great light reflections/nmm/etc, but I don\'t remember ever having seen a proper reflected image of the world beyond the figure\'s base.

You\'ve totally opened my eyes to a \"4th dimension\" of figure painting that I was oblivious to. The fanciest diorama base can suggest the immediate environs that the character inhabits but to get a sense of the world is something else.

I could probably blather on semi-comprehensibly but will instead just say, thank you mattsterbenz for blowing my mind  :D

Well now, that is impressive! Some of the best metals I\'ve ever seen.

My only word of advise to you is to coat any steel objects you plan to embed in oak with a polyurethane coating. The tannins in the oak act as oxidizing agents and will cause anything steel to rust. Over the short term this isn\'t a big deal, but in preserving your works for posterity it is something to consider.
