My red fish has died ...

Aw vince I\'m sorry to hear that. My girlfriend recently had to have her 6-year-old cat put down after he ate poison (also kidney failure). It is never an easy decision, but it does end their suffering.

I encourage anyone else who feels the same way to not be discouraged by the comments in this thread.

I think the rule of thumb is: Do what feels right to you.

The rule of thumb then seems to be, as you say, do what is right for you. Fair call. But then what comments exactly are discouraging(from this thread)? Do what you want but make sure you have a sly dig at others whilst doing so! Nice one Zora :duh:

I believe that when dealing with loss, there is a feeling of \"alone-ness\" (sorry, I\'m not as articulate as I would like to be) involved. You understand that you are not the only one in the world who is feeling the pain of that particular death, but you are the only one feeling your pain. This is when it is nice to hear somebody acknowledge that you are in pain and even offer a word or two of condolence. Somebody who is grieving is not looking for intensely deep soul cleansing advice for how to cope or \"the perfect condolence.\" They don\'t want to hear about how you felt when your loved one passed, either. They just want to hear that others actually care. For many people, sharing their pain is very helpful in healing, as is knowing that somebody cares.

The thing is...some people want that \'alone-ness....\'

I can only speak for myself, but whenever I am ill, or when I\'ve been bereaved I don\'t actually want any human contact.
My response is to crawl off into a hole until I have fixed myself and feel ready to face the world again. I am not saying that\'s a good response, but it is my response, and we need to appreciate that everyone\'s responses are different;)

Rev, what\'s so hard to understand? I am saying do what you feel is good for you...post a thread about your loss or not; seek out like-minded people who will comfort you or hide in a hole.

There was no \"sly dig\". I\'m not that smart.

I was just hoping that for those who DO want to post those kinds of things, they are not discouraged by the comments of people who either don\'t want to hear it, or couldn\'t care less about others\' needs for compassion.

I couldn\'t care less for another mini titled \"Another Mini\" or \"Une Autre Mini\", but you don\'t see me starting a thread saying they should stop.

But I wouldn\'t blame you if you did. :duh:;)

It\'s a case of making the point and then suggesting there are discouraging comments on the thread. Plain and simple. As we have roughly worked out, there is a for and an against and a little bit of middle ground. It\'s like most of life. But your point about discouraging threads gave across the attitude that you still hold your view as bang on and correct. I can\'t say it is or isn\'t, but you seemed off-key to me :(

As it goes I\'m not one to try and force a stand off (too often) and i don\'t want to kick off an \'a\' vs \'b\' issue, it\'s just that your point seemed quite entrenched on one side, especially with what I saw as a jibe against opposing views. Simple really.

Even though it may not have been as articulate as you\'d liked spazzy, I agree totally with what you said.
Fact is, If people need this \"acknowlagement\" , or perhaps would appreciate - is more a correct statement, they will let you know.
People who want to deal with it themselves don\'t let it be known in general. So if thats the case just let it be, live and let die I say.
