I love my neighborhood. I have an eccentric next door neighbor, and their house is Pepto Bismol (R) Pink. It used to be a nice blue with green trim. one coat of pink and one coat of white on the trim is all they got. Other than that, I like my neighbors. They\'re all quiet :)

Most of my evil neighbor stories are noise pollution...thankfully I\'ve not experienced much worse than that.

My current pet peeve is the number of \'weekend warrior\' harley riders that have been popping up in my area. They spend more time revving the thunderous engines on those freakin\' bikes than they do riding them. They are really expensive noise makers.

I\'ve got nothing against motorcycles, indeed, I\'d love a Harley myself. But if I had one I think I\'d actually ride it rather than just sitting in my garage or driveway and revving the engine a few hundred times every night around 10pm.

You need to use the cops more often...after all you are paying for their salary.

I\'ve thought about it, and I\'ve thought about doing what liz did, too. When she calls I just want to answer the phone and :cussing: but I still desperately want to be a good neighbor. I\'ve talked to everybody else in the neighborhood, and nobody cares. One of my neighbors is the mayor, whom I know personally because I used to run the lab for several years in his medical practice. I sat in his office and talked to him about it, he thinks its kinda funny, and told me that he never even knew I had dogs until he took the garbage out and saw them in my back yard across the alley.

I did let her know when she first started this crap that I was not to be toyed with when she started trying to play some stupid neighborhood rumor game with me, and she left me alone for a few months after that. I had done a pretty good job of putting her in her place, and on the occasions when I have been confrontational, she won\'t answer her door or her phone. I just hope that the next time she calls me to complain about them I am in a rip roaring pissed off mood and unload on her. That would feel good.

I\'m getting soft. Don\'t even seem like the same person who started posting on this site a few years ago, busting heads in the freak bar...lol

I thought your state is known for being extremely tolerant??

The thing is, they aren\'t totally stupid about the pot. The kid is a college kid, so he\'s not a minor, and their back porch where they smoke is enclosed with no windows. I can smell the pot, and I can hear them over there, but I can\'t see them. The reason I know he\'s dealing is because I know other college kids who know. What I run into is that I have no real proof that they\'re over there smoking and dealing, but if somebody walks past my house and the dogs are in the back yard and see them through the fence, they\'ll bark. It\'s so much easier for me to get busted over my dogs barking than it is for them to get busted over their pot.

I hear ya, but just remember smelling it is probable, lol overhearing \"lots of coughing and people talking about pot\" should be enough. If you gotta just make up what ya heard. If they get busted on their back porch with pot & paraphinalia, there won\'t be any reason for witnesses.

Unfortunatly for you the west coast is more tolerant of that crap.

Other thing is next time ya smell it or know they are smoking yell over to em at the top of your lungs \"are you smoking dope?\" or \"why not do your drugs inside\" or \"hows the dope dealing going, why not try and be a little more low key\" or any such comment yelled loud enough for the neighborhood to hear should be enough to get em to freak out on a nice paranoia trip.

Other then that all ya can do thats nonconfrontational is move the dog pen if you use one or figure some way of teaching your dogs not to bark.

Personally tho I\'d try and screw up the dopers lives if they had the nerve to bitch about my dogs and try and get me a 500 dollar fine.

Spazzy that is one annoying situation . . . I really don\'t know what to say. My first inclination would be call the cops on her and her son when they are smoking. Yeah it\'s kind of petty but they are the ones actually breaking the law (and who knows how much Mary Jane they have in their house . . . and maybe other things?) your dogs are just doing their job, warning you of an intruder.

It sucks for sure and I definitely feel your pain.

I shared a bedroom wall with an aspiring rap artist for three years. The noise was just enough to annoy me. Usually the base beating through my wall against my headboard. Any time I would call the cops, by the time they got to my apartment it stopped or they said it wasn\'t loud enough to do anything.

I tried everything though before that. I tried talking to the apartment office, tried talking to them about moving their stereo. I mean I talked to them over and over and over again. Until I was having a really crap week and mid terms were coming up and I hadn\'t gotten a wink of sleep because of the base coming through my wall. I finally just let them have it. They actually asked the leasing office the next day if I was certifiable.

Then once the noise disturbances finally stopped after three years the guys in that apartment and the apartment office realized how nice I actually was. They commented on it. To which I responded, yeah amazing what a good night\'s sleep can do when you don\'t have to worry about music waking you up.

Then I moved to Texas.

Remind me never to be a bad neighbor of Dragonsreach. I prefer the direct \'sock \'em in the head\' approach myself but this isn\'t everyone\'s cup of tea and I suppose is kinda barbaric.

I had a drug dealing neighbor who\'s girlfriend hung herself in the apartment. One day not long after the suicide he was parked in my driveway so I told him to move his damn car. We got into a verbal argument, very close to physical, one of the girls there told me to leave because he was in mourning so I told him to \'mourn on someone else\'s\' damn property\'. Humm, maybe that makes me the bad neighbor but dammit I don\'t like people parking in my driveway.

Well, you\'re not going to turn them in...just tell them that if they bother you again you\'ll find a way to have them busted. Maybe they\'ll leave you alone.

:twisted: Getting old teaches one experience.
Having friends and family in both the military and law enforcment teaches one to be a sneaky bastich.
Add the two together and whatta ya got.:D

But to be honest where I live now I have great neighbours.

Well, I think my problem may be solved for me...she called me this morning to let me know that they are going to put up a cyclone fence around their property because they intend to buy some little yappy dog. HA! Then our dogs will be barking at each other, and there won\'t be a damn thing she can do about it then.

lol

She\'s worried that her dog might be a digger though. I have a very large black German Shepard that would love to have a little yappy dog snack!

My little mut is 35, the big dog is a tad shy of 140...and he\'s nice and trim. A little old, and missing a few teeth from when he tore up the gate on their dog pen once, but he\'s really just a big teddy bear. He likes to snuggle. :)

I too have a reasonably large mostly black German Shepard who likes little yappy dog snacks... She especially hates white/light colored dogs.

Quite a funny thing happened today, 30 min after reading this post for the first time the police came to my house with a mess complaint and I have a week to clean it up, freaky really (I\'m not normally messy, but my house is in mid major renovation which is taking longer than it should have due to financial issues from closing down my business).

Oddly enough a girl in my old apartment complex in AZ claimed this and yet would yell at me every time her German Shepard who was off a leash would attack my little white westie who was on his leash and I would punch the dog in the face to get it away from mine.

I kept warning management about that dog and they did nothing. Until that shepard was in the dog park with other dogs just playing and having fun and then killed a small white dog.

I love german shepards but they do tend to be a bit more aggressive sometimes.

I think that has a lot to do with the training. Not to say breeding doesn\'t have any mark on a dog\'s temperment, but I couldn\'t be happier with my big guy. He\'s just about perfect, I think. Looks scary, sounds scary, keeps an eye on the kids, does a good job of being protective when hubby isn\'t home, and lets the baby crawl all over him and doesn\'t make a peep, just waits until it\'s safe to run away from my little 1 year old terror.

I fully agree Spazzy that that is more of a training issue.

I have a westie and that breed is known for being very active and enjoys barking. Mine is a quiet couch potato for the most part but loves going on walks. Otherwise he\'s a chill dog that really doesn\'t bark unless something is wrong.

That\'s good training. He didn\'t used to be so well behaved. Not by a long shot!
